I had an issue with a restaurant's food and they said they would refund my money. Now they're giving me the run around.

Here's the deal: My friend and I called in an order. She went to pick it up. I didn't know the total, I just sent $20 with her. After receiving the food, I was highly disappointed with the quality and the price. I did not touch the food, eat it, or even breathe on it. I immediately called the restaurant. They told me the manager wasn't in and I explained the situation. She told me the manager was the only one that could get into the register to do a refund. She assured me that they WOULD give me a refund, but I had to take the food back & the manager would call me the next day. So I took everything back and left my phone #.

So the next day came & they didn't call, so I called there. Lady said manager said she couldn't do a refund, but they would cook me another order. First of all, there is NO WAY, I would trust them touching my food again. So I told the lady I would just call the corporate office and see what they recommend for me to do. I haven't called yet, but plan to today.

Any advice?

I guess I'm confused. How did you know you didn't like it if you didn't even taste it? :confused3

Sorry, I don't have any real advice for you except to just call and tell them why you didn't like their food and that you would like a refund.

It was the "quality" of the food that I had the compliant about. The fries looked hard & dry, the burger was just nasty looking like it had been just thrown together by a 2 year old.

I did call them and they did offer the refund, now they're saying they can't refund the money. So now I'm out $14 and the food.

ETA: The price issue I had was that they charged $4.89 for an egg sandwich! Two pieces of bread and one fried egg on top!

I had a similar issue with a restaurant. They made my food totally wrong and items were missing. They also didn't give a receipt. I called the store and they refused to give a refund or replace my order because I could not provide a receipt. So I called the corporate office. I received a call from the general manager. I got a refund.

You paid $14 for a burger and fries?!? For $14 it had better be the best damn burger in town! I would call corporate and complain!

it is very common for restaurants to offer different food instead of a refund.

If it is owned by big corporate then they should be willing to refund the money so they will not get "told" on. you might have to push a little hard.

You have obviously never lived in the Caribbean... that is normal.

I was thinking the same thing.....how did you now you didn't like it?:confused3

That price is not outrageous here but that really isn't the point. I would think you would know the cost before placing an order.
Also what does an egg sandwich have to do with you not liking your burger (that you never tried)?

None of that matters.

They told her that if she took it back, they would refund her money the next day. Now they want to deny her what they promised her.

At this point, it's not really about bad food or fourteen dollars. Call corporate and see what happens.

$14 would not be worth my time after several phone calls/days

I would forget it and never go back

I think it seems weird you didn't even try it. You were told the manager was the only who gives refund. So they person telling you that would get a refund was in the wrong so had no right to tell you that since she wasn't a manager.

The first person you spoke to seemed to be just a host or a similar position. They probably just assumed that a refund would be given but really had no right to assure a guest that it would. However you knew you weren't speaking to a manager so I guess you should have taken the her words with a grain of salt.

The price they charge is what they charge. If you didn't know it would be so expensive, now you know and you've learned your lesson. I would never expect a restaurant to refund my money for food that is now wasted just because I felt like it was too expensive. If there was a quality issue, then the restaurant did offer to re-do your meal which seems ok to me.

Call corp. office explain the situation and get your money back...done and done.

Don't eat there again.

Don't ever believe anything until it is put in writing. There are any number of likely scenarios, such as there being a misunderstanding, or the person who said such at thing was not authorized (and no, there is no automatic agency established between a line worker and an employer), etc. What was said on the phone is practically meaningless, unless there is a recording. :)

All that matters is that the customer wasn't happy, and so now question is what, if anything, the company will do to make the customer happy.

Seems to me the quality would be the taste of the food, not so much as how it looked. If you took it back in person, you should have waited for a credit. Someone there was in charge, no matter what you were told.

At this point, I think you're not getting the $14 back. And you can't dispute it on your credit card, if anything they would write it off, but you wouldn't get it back from the merchant.

I still don't understand how you can judge the quality by looking at it. :confused3

I agree what others have said, how do you know it wasn't good if you didn't taste it, just because it may not have looked perfect, it may have tasted good. Maybe your friend dropped the bag!

You also could have asked how much it would have cost when placing the order, if you were concerned about the price.

I would let it go and not order from there again.

I do have to agree with that.

A little update: I still never recieved a phone call from the manager and every time I called there, they said she was in & out all day and I was told that she had left word to the employees that she was not going to refund the money.

I emailed the corporate office and also filed a comlaint with the Better Business Bureau. Since the manager never took the time to contact me, I will also wrote her a letter telling her that I will never visit that restaurant again, and will encourage my friends and family to do the same.
