Last night, SIL calls DH on his cell and I'm sitting there, half-listening to his side of the conversation. About 15 min later he hangs up and says to me, "Jess had to tell me something important. She's having a kid, but she's not pregnant." Which I know can only mean one thing: adoption. I knew SIL and her DH had thought about adopting from possibly Russia or China, or someplace like that. But I also knew if it happened, it might take YEARS to find a child and get all the red tape cut through.
Apparently, the relative of a friend of SIL's is pregnant but does not want to keep the child. SIL and her DH agreed to a private adoption and the kiddo (gender to be determined in a month or so) will go to DSIL and her DH.
The reason she called was to make sure that DH and I were ok with this. How could we NOT be? DH was pretty excited and once he told me, I got excited too. I think DSIL was worried about stepping on our toes and stealing our baby thunder. I told him to tell her not to worry about it, only worry how her mother would react.
I'm sure my MIL will go bonkers and not know what to do with herself..again.
She went pretty bananas when she found out DH and I were having a child. I can't imagine what her reaction will be when she finds out her only daughter is adopting a newborn.
SO.....the plan is (so far, if DH can switch with somebody and get tomorrow night off) to go over to DMIL/DFIL's house tomorrow night and surprise them. DH and I plan on stopping by Babys R Us and buying DSIL the exact same "Hungry Little Caterpillar" outfit that she gave us when we found out we were pregnant.
I can't believe it. First my sister has a kid and then my DSIL decides to adopt one. How on earth did I get so lucky?
