I'm going to V&A's next week - ask me why I'm bummed

You: Gee kathy, why are you bummed?

Me: Well, when I booked the dinner, I was really looking forward to the wine (especially the port - the cheese course is my all time favorite). But I have since learned that I am expecting our second child. Of course, I am thrilled to be pregnant again, but now I have to watch DH enjoying all of that wonderful wine, while I enjoy the bottled water.

So, I'm really not bummed, because in 1 week, 5 hours, and 13 minutes, I will be enjoying a wonderful meal at the place where my DH proposed to me 6 years earlier. But OTOH - they have such good wines, and I can't have any!

Congratulations! You'll still enjoy V&A's :).

I don't want to alarm you, but you may want to consider possible listeria poisoning from eating soft cheeses: http://www.babymed.com/docs/english/746.asp .

I personally ate soft cheeses and sipped a little bit of wine through my pregnancy, but everyone is different. It's just nice to be an informed cheese-eater ;).

Quit your whining.......get it? (Whine...wine)

OK, being the cheerful person that I am. Just start planning your next trip for AFTER the baby is born and focus on eating there and sampling the wines.

And when baby is old enough, never let him forget what you sacrificed in order to have her!!!!!

YOU'RE GONNA HAVE A BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a blessing!

(besides, you'll really NEED some wine by then!)

We are already planning our next trip, and we will once again have built in baby sitters (my sisters and my mom - this time it is my MIL). I will have to focus on enjoying V&A's again next year WITH the wine.

Oh, and next time, I will NOT be pregnant - the baby will only be 4 months old, and 3 kids under 3 years old is not going to happen (my daughter is 11 months now and will be 18 months when the baby will be born).

Thanks for reminding me that the baby is a blessing. It truly is a blessing, and DH and I are really thrilled.

Oh, and I can also be glad that we weren't able to book a winemaker's dinner (which we had hoped to do, but they sold out too fast). I'd feel really bad about missing the wine at one of those.

It seems to be the fashion nowadays for couples to announce that "WE" are pregnant. I think if "we" are pregnant then "we" should not have any wine at V&A :) :) :) Maybe if you are both sticking to bottled water it won't be so torturous!

LOL! That wouldn't fly in my family. My husband used to say "If you're eating for 2, I'm drinking for 3!"

Woo Hoo!

I'd just like to add that today my DH's boss said to him, "You've been working really really hard. While you're on vacation, I want you to take your wife somewhere REALLY nice for dinner. When you come back, bring me the bill, and I will take care of it. Dinner is on me."

I would say that V&A's qualifies as REALLY nice. So it looks like I have absolutely no reason to be bummed. I will enjoy a nice dinner, sniff DH's wine, and it will all be reimbursed by DH's boss. Could I ask for anything more than that?

Well... You might be able to steal a sip here and there. Then you aren't drinking a whole glass of anything. I had small tastes of wine during my pregnancies and suffered no ill effects from it. I just made sure I drank extra water to prevent getting any more dehydrated than I already was.
