Looking for opinions.

If you are staying offsite with a rental car and friends of yours are staying onsite without a rental, would it be unethical to use a resort parking pass (or a room key) given to your onsite friends to get free parking?

This issue came up at work with co-workers who will be in Disney at the same time together but with different accomodations.

One argues that the onsite guest is entitled to the parking space so if they want to let someone use it that is thier perogative.

Another argues that free parking is an onsite privilege and those saying offsite should have to pay.

And if this not a problem, I'm staying offsite in Dec., so let me know if I can have your pass!!! :yay:

:lmao: :lmao: And I'm staying offsite in April, can I have one. :rotfl: Ya right, you're right you are going to regret this, but hey nothing ventured nothing gained ;)

I don't think the onsite guest will be given a parking pass if they don't have a car so I think the point is moot.

Admittedly (and obviously) I didn't think through the whole logistics of this yet but my first thought is, 'wouldn't the resort guest be needing the pass themselves to get it?'

It may be a moot point. The last couple of times I was at WDW (May and late August) they were requiring you to not only have a parking pass but a room key as well. In fact, at WL they asked us to use the bus entrance with the arm by putting our key in the slot. At BC they wanted to see both the pass and the key.

However, if friends are meeting friends, all they have to do is drive up, tell the guard they are visiting friends, show a driver's license and be able to park. Where are the on-site guests staying? If it's someplace where parking is limited (like a monorail resort or Epcot resort) it might be slightly more difficult. The on-site friends can always notify the gate to expect their friends.

We have been joined during several vacations by family members that are FL residents and are just coming to be with us for a day at the parks. We have never been told no when we have asked for extra parking passes for their car, but this is usually because Gabby's mom needs a wheelchair or ECV when she comes to see us and until we can get one for her, she has to walk and she doesn't have much stamina. So, I do not feel that you are being unethical. I doubt that Disney would have a problem with it. But, I could be wrong. Maggie

When I stayed at POR they asked me upon check-in if I had a vehicle. They then gave me a pass for the windshield that was good for parking at the parks for the duration of our stay. I didn't have to provide proof of the vehicle, even though we had a rental. If I remember correctly we were just waved through the gates at the various parks.

This is the pass that I was referring to.

Right. So unless the onsite guest is going to lie about having a vehicle, they won't get a parking pass.

BOGUS, man!

What kind of knarly switcheroo are you trying to pull OFF, mon frere ?

How do I know WHAT you're gonna do with that pass?
And its all traceable back to ME!

Zowie-Kewl!
Let's be SURE to allow an unattended extra car into the lot with MY parking pass on the glass!

BOGUS to the MAX!

No way, parlé, touché, ouy vay!

Any thread that starts with: I'm going to regret this, I'm sure I'll get flamed, Is this cheating? or Flame me if you want is bound to be a popcorn:: thread. And I believe that in 90% of the cases that the OP knows exactly what they are doing. Apparently people enjoy sitting behind computer screens and engaging in heated debates(yes, I've been guilty of this myself).

Now taking bets on how long this thread takes to turn into a flame war and to be shut down by the mods.

We have APs. My last line was a joke.

My BIL says it's like being given a sandwich that you can't eat, so you give it to someone else who can use it.

OK, so I like controversy......
It's all in fun

Well, if you don't have a car, you don't get a parking pass. So the point is moot anyways. :confused3

If you have to ask then you already know the answer

:rotfl2: My third grade teacher always said that!!!! Thanks for the flashback.

Tell the resort you are going to borrow a friends car so you will need a parking pass (with the added benefit that you didn't lie).

If you ask for a parking pass they will give you one. I asked for an extra one for my DD even though she was a CM. I'd also get her a room key. It's an ethical question. They won't question if you ask for a parking pass.

Thank You! Just the info I was looking for.

Actually, my mom and I stayed at ASMO in 02, and we arrived at the resort via towncar, and we were issued a parking pass, so that's not entirely true.

Exactly.

Its amazing to me what lengths people will go to just to save a few dollars.

Actually, we are staying off-site this year and plan on spending 9 or 10 days at the parks. If we didn't have APs, that would cost $90 or $100. Not exactly a few dollars.

However, I understand your point. I guess it's a matter of perspective.

I told my friends that I didn't see the problem, as they are only taking a parking spot that the onsite guest was entitled to but didn't use. If they save enough money in the week to eat dinner or get an extra souvenier, good for them.

We routinely give away fastpasses that we can't or don't want to use to perfect strangers. Are they entitled to get in the fastpass line even though they didn't arrive early enough to get them? I see it as no one is getting hurt, so they can have them. The same with a parking pass. Kinda. ;)
