I'm going to Disneyland!

Thanks for the info everyone, it's been a few years since I've been to Disneyland, so things are gonna be new again for me.

One quick question, do they have fast pass at Disneyland?
yes, they do have FP and it works pretty much the same as at WDW. At one point, Grizzly River Rapids wasn't part of the system (so you could get a FP for that anytime) but I think they might have hooked it into the system by now. You know, Mike, many of the things that are 'the same' really aren't because the setting and theming is so different (Fantasmic for example). I know you've been before, so one park-hopping day might be enough, but I would go for two. Do the Matterhorn at night and keep your seat belt loose. Because you can't see where you're going and the cars are so large, you'll literally go flying all around the car. I guess we're masochists at heart because we thought this was absolutely hysterical (we were also absolutely tired and getting punch drunk by the time we discovered this).

Ride a coaster with the seatbelt loose, or better yet even undone?

NEVER! pirate:

Mike - no advice since I've never been there but I wanted to tell you to have a great time! And make sure you come back with a trip report for us.

Oh Sue, you know I'm already planning the video to "mecca"! :happytv:

I did some reasearch, and found the fireworks show on Youtube.

It starts off with.

Are you ready for this?

"Good evening.......this is Julie Andrews."

Well the kleenex is already out! LOL

I've been before , and know my way around, but there is nothing like going to the "orriginal"! Plus for once I'm a guest!

hey OrlandoMike - we are leaving next week!! 4 days until we leave...we are so looking forward to it. Last time we were there we managed to get a great reservation time for Blue Bayou <sp?>. I am hoping it is on my DP's food list of "to do's".

We are flying Jet Blue - into Long Beach the whole airport is a "retro" type of thing...one walks across the tarmac to the plane the whole place can't seat 100 people. It is actually nice to not have all the hustle and bustle of the large airports.

May I ask what the involvement is with Drum Corp? I marched for years. Before I aged out...(almost a century ago?? - well ok not that long - just feels like it!)

I marched for The Cadets (back when when we were actually the Garfield Cadets) and other small corps here in NJ...I do miss the Bridgemen in their silly coats. I was always afraid I would trip over the coat so I never tried out for their lines.

I also marched Gahfield. 1981. Hmmmm

Have a great time in Disneyland, bring home lots of pics for us!

Mike, NJ doesn't drop their "R's" like New England......do we??

I'll make sure Cayla gets you an answer today. She'll be up before lunchtime.

Can't wait for DL. I have been to WDW over 35 times (stopped counting) and this is my second trip to DL. I love the charm of DL. Pirates and HM are so much better. And Club 33!!!! WooHoo here I come!!!

In 1980 the Cadets almost folded, so they went down to New Orleans to get a bunch of kids to fill in all the holes.

Imagine me, a kid from Ohio, marching with kids from New Jersey accents and New Orleans accents. I didn't understand a darn thing! :lmao:

I have to confess ... when I was a kid I had crush on Julie Andrews. I mean come on -Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music ... who couldn't be drawn in by that voice and that accent. (ok ... maybe the crush is still there:rolleyes1 ). Now I need to make plans to get to DL.

Hey Mike! I heard you were PMing my hunny!

about the corps- as I said - it was a million years ago....I marched for Garfield from 1977 to 1980 I think. We had a horn line of about 100 and a drum line of about 50 I think. I am hard pressed to remember. I do recall that when we marched DCI east we didn't do very well - we had just stopped doing the "amen" and taking that hit.

I did make it to DCI international one year.

I also marched for a very small corp called The Dynamics. I was DM for an even smaller corp called The Sundowners.

boy that brings back memories!

I will be there 8/7-12. We have tix for semis and finals, plan to do DL/DCA on Thursday, probably Friday morning maybe Wednesday, depending on solos, if my DS wants to go. Staying at the Residence Inn. The HoJos is a GREAT hotel, it's about a 5 minute walk to the gate.

Hooray, someone else from the Boards is going to be there when I'm there. We're getting in Aug. 5 and flying home Aug. 8. I'll be the lady with the Lime Green Mickey pin on my lanyard and the lime green Mickey Head as an i.d. card. I'll PM you my picture so you know who I am.

Please say hi. And don't skip Space Mountain. If you sit in the front seat and put your arms out, you'll feel like you're flying.

Orlando Mike-

When I have to stay on the cheap at Disneyland, I always go for the HOJO. It's about a 15 minute walk to the park and you follow the monorail line on your way there. It's clean and it's cheap. (Of course, now I have been completely spoiled by a stay at the Grand Californian, and nothing else will do!!!!!).

I would absolutely recommend 2 days in the parks. One day, in my opinion is nowhere near long enough. When Val and I go, we actually do 3 1/2 days.

I'm staying near Knotts for the first two nights, got the room booked, then I go to Pasadena for three nights. I still have two nights after Pasadena, I'm gonna check out HoJo's, Thanks!

Found out that Jersey Boys and Wicked are both in LA then! Anyone seen both? Which one is better? I like the music from both of them.

OH! My next to youngest son is VERY theatre-oriented and he totally loved Wicked.:thumbsup2

Hey Mike - I haven't seen the Jersey Boys, but Wicked is amazing...be sure to sit in the center - there is a lot going on in the back and near the wings...I missed parts because I was off to stage right. Loved the show, music and whole concept...go see it! I prefer Broadway of course. Living 15 minutes away will do that.

BTW - we are at DLR/DCA...got here on Wed, did Walking in Walts Footsteps today...tired sore piddys, but what a great tour. Just spent this evening walking around a bit, did the haunted mansion...different from WDW. I don't recall portraits of couples then the man disappears. Got a few pictures, not sure how well they came out. Tomorrow, we plan on doing some rides and finding a good spot to see the fireworks from in front of the castle. Can't say much about the hotels you are looking at - we are at the Grand Californian. Beautiful! We feel it is similar to Wilderness Lodge.

well, off to bed..got another long, magical day!
