I decided this week that I am going to Disney World for my 30th Birthday in November 2007! :Pinkbounc It is going to be an adults only vacation with my best friend and my husband. I can't wait. I have never been to Disney World but my best friend has been there a few times. The whole family went to Disneyland last year and had a blast but I am looking forward to a Disney experience without kids this time.

Any advice for a first timer to Disney World? I picked up the Frommer's 2006 book and I registered on the TourGuideMike.com site (seems to be a lot of good information there).

Congratulations!! I know you will have a great time!!

My advice is to DIS everyday & get the Unofficial Guide. That was my strategy.

Congrats on your upcoming trip.. The good thing is you have lots of time to research.. You dont have to plan everything to the T, but its nice to have some sort of a plan.. Know what rides you definitely want to ride as most likely you wont get to do everything.. you will have time to figure out where you want to eat.. if you want to do other things, etc.. DIS is the perfect place.. Just sit down and read read read and ask questions.. The Unofficial guide is very helpful too..

I would highly highly suggest researching before you go. I have been to Disney many times but still research what I want to do before I get there. You need to know what parks you want to visit and for how long. It is also better if you know what rides you want to see and especially what shows are a must because everything runs at a different time in November. Many of the parks close earlier than the do in the summer. Make sure that you know where you want to eat and make ADR. Overall just research and remember to have a good time.

Brilliant News!!! I am sure you are in for a great trip!!!

Thanks everyone! Guess I should go pick up the Unofficial Guide, huh? What makes this different from every other book on Disney World? There were so many different ones at the book store I didn't know which one to choose from.

Trying to decide if I want to go to Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and Sea World. Are these worth seeing? If so, why? Also, do you know what the water parks will be like in November? Will the water be extra cold?

TIA

Sea world is definitely worth seeing-and get your DH to splurge and book you in at Discovery Cove too. I'm not so keen on Universal but then I don't really go in for big scary rollercoasters :scared1: It depends on how many days you have-WDW will realistically take at least 5 to do it justice, more depending on crowds, park times, stamina :rotfl: etc.

I liked Sea World and thought that it was worth the trip although it has changed so much since i last went there. I have been to Universial Studios and loved that park although Islands of Adventure was not as fun for me although I don't like big roller coasters. As far as Water Parks go Im not sure if the water is heated or not. Sometimes it is warm in November it just depends on the weather that you hit.

I also highly recommend the Unofficial Guide. Well worth the investment, has tons of information.

My best advice is:

1) Plan ahead (make dining reservations at least 90 days out - Le Cellier is great!) but be flexible. Don't be so regimented and "overplanned" that you can't be spontaneous and have fun!

2) Keep accessing "the DIS"; you'll learn tons of information. But be careful, it's addictive! Look for posts with things like: "Ten most important things to bring with you," "What I wish I had done on my trip . . ." and other things like that.

3) Always use Fastpass (there's a good explanation in the Unofficial Guide for FP strategy).

4) Always get to the parks before opening time.

have a fabulous time!

PS - I'll try to find some of the posts I found most useful and "bump" them for you!

I too am celebrating/protesting my 30th birthday at Walt Disney World! Congratulations on your trip :)

Well I went to the bookstore the other day and picked up the Unofficial Guide and it is great! There is tons of information and the touring plans look great!

I have also heard mentioned the Passporter. What is this exactly? Do you recommend it? Should I get this now or wait until the 2007 edition comes out?

I am becoming pretty obsessed with finding out as much information about Walt Disney World. My DH thinks I am nuts as the trip is like a year and a half away.

I totally understand. I would DIS after DH and DD's went to bed and then read the Unofficial Guide as I was falling asleep. I planned our trip for 14 months. It's all I talked about. DH asked me what I was going to talk about after we got back...our next trip of course!! Hopefully we can go back Oct 07...that's what I'm saving for at least. Enjoy your planning!!!

Congratulations! You will have a great time!

Read everything you can find on WDW.

Check out all the web sites you can find!

Stay on site.

Relax and have fun!

Congratulations!! Going to WDW for your birthday is a very special treat. Have fun!!

Have a wonderful WDW Birthday Trip, Plan, Plan, and Plan.... One suggestion, if you decide to do other things outside Disney, DW and I found out the hard way, do those things first, then do WDW.

Leave time for dtd and shopping, many sights to see in that area.

Congratulations on your first trip! We have been to WDW many times and we love it more & more! You have plenty of time but you do need to research some things out. Read all you can and check all the internet sites you can. You don't want to over look anything. I still study everything before we go. Make a few resturant prioity seatings. Use the dining plan. It is awesome.
Have a great time! I know you will!

The Passporter is another guide book, but w/ pockets for organizing stuff. It is a great guide book and helps me to be organized. I got mine at the end of the year when they went on sale for $1. I had checked one out at the public library beforehand.

I own three different guide books, but I spend most of my time on the internet. I read everything I can from here. I also get all the info I can from www.allearsnet.com. Deb has a wonderful site w/ lots of detailed info. I work up my budget from her site.

Ask any questions you might have. We love to help out.
