Why not? You all are like family, so here goes.

My daughter, born 7 weeks premature, alcohol and drug-dependent, who wore an apnea monitor and oxygen for the first two years of her life, and throughout all of her life, until this, her last year in high school, always tested with an IQ of 65, did three things in the past two months:

1. She tested with a verbal IQ of 80! (And she's starting college in the fall.)

2. She passed her driver's test the very first time (just this past Thursday!), and

3. She went to her High School prom Friday night looking like an angel, met a college guy, and danced all night!

In two weeks, she'll graduate from High School, with a real diploma.

Us two moms are very proud! :grouphug:

Aww, Viki, you and Gwen have every right to be proud! I only met your kids for a short while that night at the Rose and Crown but I could tell that they're both great kids. What are her plans for college? And more importantly, how nervous are you now that she can drive on her own?! Congratulations to you and your daughter!

Oh, Sue, that's right, you did meet the whole family (minus the border collies, one of whom I'm not speaking to in the moment, see the Soprano's thread).

Well, on the car front I imagine that I'm like all other parent's: very frightened for her. Driving is risky business, it just is. The good news is that she's such a good driver (she's been practicing for two years and has taken every course possible) I don't think I'm any MORE scared for her than other parents would be. I even felt more proud than scared when she took the car for the first time solo last night and drove to work, and we even let her drive her brother to Rita's. I don't think it dawned on us that we were risking both kids in one fell swoop, but it's going to happen a lot - they both work.

On the college front, she's going to take two courses/semester and she's majoring in early child education - she wants to be the support teacher in classrooms for children with severe disabilities - she's very gifted in that regard and, again, has had lots of real-world practice.

I can still remember the moment 18 years ago when the doctors told us that she might never speak. And I can remember the moment 8 years ago when the educational psychologist told us that she would never work anywhere outside of a group setting. Did I mention that she's worked at Burger King for three years?

Thank you for asking!

Oh Viki I'm so happy for you!

I'm off to work the night shift, but when I get home I'd love to see a prom pic! :thumbsup2

If you dont feel like sharing them online send me one via my email!

Mike, thank you, I don't have the pics downloaded to my computer yet, but let me get with Gwen - she's working hard around the house - I'm just trying to recover from worship this morning by doing light duty on the net in between enjoying a few message boards.

And, friend, on the question of when we'll be down next, may I introduce you to the concept of tickers???:lmao::lmao::lmao:Please see below!

You wanna meet up with us on our OKW vacation - it's a romantic get away for just the two of us, but we'll spring for a salty dog for YOU!

I was hoping I wasn't the only bragadocious mom around here! :rolleyes1

Congrats to you and your family, those are some awesome milestones.

Pics please!!

What an amazing, beautiful story. The child, soon to be woman, clearly had excellent parents. :thumbsup2

Vicki, that's such exciting news! Congratulations to you and Gwen for being such great moms and to your daughter for all of her accomplishments.

How exciting for you both!

Is she going to a college in Philadelphia?

I'm just curious as I go to Temple. :)

When you live here there is a countdown clock, but it tells you when you get to LEAVE town....not arrive! :rotfl2:

And after that news the Salty Dog is on me!

I'm dying for Prom pics! I feel like a nervous father! :happytv:

Congratulations!!! Truly a great miracle in your lives! I true testament to great parenting.

Great news!! But you let her dance with a college boy? ;)

Darlin', this is shocking I know, but I was not at the prom with her, monitoring her behavior, and the truth, that I conveyed to my Mom, right before the prom, is that my daughter is MUCH better behaved than me. :)

About the photos, sorry Mike, we'll get them up as soon as possible, but Gwen has a softball game tonight so I think it will have to be tomorrow :(

Gwen and I both took graduate degrees from Temple! Good for you.

But our daughter is going to Monto, much closer, with a super support program for people with disabilities.

Congratulations to your daughter and the two of you for providing the nuturing environment to enable her to thrive. We went through the same thing with our adopted daughter with an IQ of 75 and she is in her third year of college. Just goes to show you the so called experts are not always right and what a loving home can do for kids.

Exactly! Our daughter's NEW global IQ score is 74.

Congratulations to your DD, yourself, Gwen and your DS (because he's been part of the life that helped her achieve)!

Hope she enjoys college!

You Canadians are so wise (sorry, sorry, two weeks ago I had the great pleasure of hanging out with scores of Canadians and they were so cautious and deliberate, while still being so FUN), yes, our son is a huge part of our family and if nothing else he encourages our daughter to keep proving him wrong on his "dumb sister" remarks (normal "dumb sister stuff).
