It's pay day and I'm going out to lay in some traffic to protest these insane taxes. Afterall...I tried voting...didn't work, there are still taxes. So, there is nothing left to do but lay down in some traffic. OK...I'm kidding.

But, on a serious note, rumor has it that there is going to be a "Die In" in Boston tomorrow. I just have a few things to say to the people involved in this. First, be original. The Die In has already been done. Much like the Yankees and the Red Sox, New York's protesters beat you to it. San Francisco beat you to the Vomit In. So, are you telling me that Boston can't come up with something else? Pathetic.

I do have a suggestion though...how about a Volunteer In? You know, instead of spending what is obviously a free Saturday making other people's lives miserable, why not go to a local Boys & Girls Club or some other place and donate your time to help out? You would be setting an example of helping with kindness. As an alternative, why not try holding a Peace sign and standing on a sidewalk? You would get the respect of most people who were able to walk and drive by you and you would be getting your point across and exercising your free speech.

But, if you insist on laying down in traffic I would like to point out that, even though you get media coverage, we are not all at home watching in amazement at your dedication and resolve. We are not admiring you for taking a peaceful stand. We are laughing at you. Not only are we laughing at you, but we are making fun of you, making jokes about running you down with our cars. So, I guess if you're going to do it, I hope the media covers it so, on Sunday, we can all laugh at the fools laying in the middle of the street, blocking traffic, causing havoc and getting arrested.....in the name of PEACE. Now THAT is truly laughable.
 
Actually that would work because dead men/women dont pay taxes!

AllyandJack, please don't lie down in traffic, with your luck you would get run over and find out afterwards that there is a surtax for occasions like that ;)
 
I think every protester that violates the rights of others (disruption in driving, working, etc.) should be arrested. They can do it out of everyone's way
 

Here in the Chicago area I was talking yesterday with one of my cousins about all of the war protestors. She told me that two days ago she and her husband were riding in the car when they came upon a group of protestors. Her husband was so upset that he stopped the car and wanted to get out and speak with the people who were protesting. My cousin pleaded with him not to get out of the car because she didn't want anything to happen to him.

Sometimes even though a person may start out just wanting to "talk," things can escalate into heated arguments. My cousin said, "all I need is for him to get arrested now"!

Opinions seem to be very strong right now among people regarding the war in Iraq. Personally, I feel that, even if you are not for the war (not that any of us like war), we should all be supporting our troops, no matter what.

Laying down in traffic in Boston is a brave act and I encourage all the protesters to do it. But they should know that according to Dave Barry the drivers in Boston "don't even obey the laws of physics".
 
The joke here among Boston drivers, is, if we don't see you, you ain't there (and we DON'T see you).... I'd really not recommend lying down in Boston traffic :rolleyes:

On a side note, I told DH if they could get another 50,000 to participate, each and every one of them could represent a victim that's been killed or chemically attacked by Saddam since the first Gulf war :( But people don't seem to interested in that....
 
I think that if the people are in the roads, obstructing justice, and the city has to call in more law enforcement and pay overtime to these officers. Then the people who were causing these problems should be arrested and fined $1000.00 each. This money should be given to the city exclusively for the police officer's overtime pay. I dont like the protesting of the war, but if they feel they must do it, then they should do it peacefully in a park, or at least on a sidewalk and it should be peacefully. JMHO
 
I agree that protests, for whatever reason, should be done on a sidewalk. Hand out leaflets or whatever you want, but don't endager people's lives.

Since when is a protest not valid unless people are arrested?? When did THAT start??

They better hope I have to stay away from Boston tomorrow. Protest all you want, but get out of my way. Feel free to state your opinion, but again don't stop me from getting anywhere. YOu have the guts to lie down in front of my car, you better be ready to get more than an earful....I am so tired of the protesters that seems to think that disruption, and getting arrested is the only way to get their point across. To be honest they are laughable and really are just making those who really protest for a cause look bad.

I am waiting for a support our troops rally...that is one worth going to
 
Glo, we had one on Monday. I was working and wasn't able to go, but from what I heard. Lots and lots of people were there including some military and a few men had tears in their eyes.

It wasn't a for/against the war thing. It was just to support the troops.

speed bumps??? I like that. lol
 
Glo...I grew up in MA, but I live in NH now. I work in MA still. Anyway....I listen to Howie Carr on my ride home and, I'm not sure WHERE in MA you are, there is a Support the Troops rally in Chicopee today between 11 and 12. They ask that you bring food for the soldiers' families since some of them are struggling. I'm not exactly sure WHERE it is, but if you're close to Chicopee, I'm sure someone in some gas station or store would know.

Wouldn't it be great to go out with big signs that say No More Protesters! Ha, ha.....

I hear it's supposed to rain heavily today in our area.

On a bright note, there was an organized protest in Lowell yesterday. All of 10-15 people showed up to protest the war. I'm hoping that they'll all realize nobody cares (beyond the point of laughter) and just stay home from now on.

you may disagree with these people's tactics (heck i do!), but joking about killing people is imho not very funny.
 
The Consitution says that there is a right of the people "peacably assemble" (Amendment I). Arguably, causing ambulances to be held up, causing traffic jams, having multiple arrests, damaging property, not to mention the few instances of all out fights, is not "peacable" and should not be allowed.

Plus, if we're going to talk about killing people, we should probably mention the guy my friend was trying to rush to the hospital in an ambulance yesterday. He nearly died in her ambulance because she couldn't get up the street the protesters were blocking to get him to the hospital. She had to re-route to a different hospital at the last minute. I think that would also fall under the killing of innocent civilians.
 
and when someone makes a joke about your friend dying, i'll be sure to post that i don't find that funny too.

OK....I have no idea what my friend dying has to do with anything. She's an ambulance driver who almost lost a patient because of people laying in the streets. This guy had cancer and couldn't get to HIS doctor because of the people laying in the street. He had to go to a different hospital and another doctor had to treat him with his doctor teleconferencing. The policemen screamed at them to get up. My friend used the PA system to practically beg these people to move. But, they didn't.

I didn't make any joke about anyone dying. I was merely relaying a story about the havoc these people are causing. There was no joke on my end or my friend's end. But, do I find it funny that people joke about running them down? Yes. If I've worked a 10 hour day and all I want to do is get home to my family and I can't because of some people laying in the street, then I am going to joke about putting my gas-guzzling SUV in 4 wheel drive and driving right over them. Of course I wouldn't do it and neither would anyone of the people joking about them being speedbumps. It's our way to protest the protesters. Nobody here is joking about people dying. The only people who think death is a joke are the goons who wouldn't move 10 seconds so an ambulance could take a sick man to his doctor.
