Can you help fill in the blank?

I am going on a (romantic) picnic and I will bring ______________.

:bounce::wave::bounce:

some soft cheese, like Brie
some crusty fresh baked bread
Fresh fruit...like sweet grapes

or,

perhaps, considering your location, stuff to make Bruschetta,
maybe some stuffed olives...fresh & local ingedrigents to make sandwiches? The possibilities are endless! :)

in either case, a nice wine, blanket etc....

boy...you've in a great part of the world for this! :)

Goof, I didn't know you were so romantic, that is sweet.

Gina, I was thinking the same thing but it really has to be the special one. :D :D :D

Goofyposter, I am impressed, great ideas!!!!

Gina, the man is a given, it will be my husband!

Snowwark, no bug repellent needed, I am planning the picnic for my living room.

Mickey65, great idea, any suggestions?

This is going to be a surprise. I am going to send DH out to deliver DS to my friends house for the night and I will prepare the house when he leaves. I will put a nice comforter on the floor, have some spumanti chilling, have some nice music playing and I think I am going to put candles througout the house. Maybe some jar candles leading up the stairs. Now I just have to work out the food. I like the cheese and crusty bread idea and I was also thinking about shrimp cocktail too as a starter. Now I need some main dish ideas (preferably stuff that is prepared ahead of time), then fruit for dessert. I would love to be able to find some strawberries and dip them in chocolate too.

If you have other ideas I would love to hear them!!

Gina and Diane, you both are so right. He has to appreciate it. :)
Goofy, :)

Tiggerlover, your picnic is a wonderful idea. I don't have any suggestions though for the main dish. Do you want it to be finger food, or what?

Goofyposter, I am impressed
I'm nert jurst another preedey face yer knoe! :teeth:

I've dune this before for an 'outing'...ter fine served at room temperature!!......'bout the only "protection" yer'll need fer this dish is a accurate oven thermometer!

An alternative serving suggestion wood be to cook this, slice it and serve over a bed of field greens (that have been litely bathed in some lime juice)....Hope this helps! :)

Mustard and Herb-Glazed Chicken Breasts
makes 4 servings

4 split boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1-1/4 pounds)
3 tablespoons Dijon-style mustard
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
3 strips lemon zest, julienned and minced
1/3 cup mixed fresh herbs: rosemary, oregano, chives, sage, parsley, and thyme

Wash the chicken breasts and pat dry. Mix together the mustard, lemon juice, oil, lemon zest, and herbs and spoon the mixture over the meat. Place on a roasting pan and grill under a preheated broiler for 3 to 4 minutes. Then bake in a 375 degrees F. oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until the juices no longer run pink.

I guess the olde goofy-brain is only fire'in on one cylinder this afternoon....I meant teu add this....as a dessert add-on or base.....

If yer dern't want to serve them as solely a cookie....then...take a couple and with a pastry brush...brush them with Kirsh (a cherry cordial)...just enought to 'reconsitute them a bit....then you could take your fresh fruit...and thinly slice it to act as a garnish atop or placed around the cookie-so as to make it stand on the plate....

Dried Cherry and Almond Biscotti
makes about 3 1/2 dozen

3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup unbleached flour
1 cup whole-wheat pastry flour
7/8 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Dash salt
1/3 cup toasted almonds or hazelnuts, chopped coarsely
3/4 cup dried cherries or golden raisins

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. In a small bowl beat the eggs, vanilla, and almond extract with a wire whisk. In a mixing bowl place the flours, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Mix to blend. Add egg mixture and mix until blended, about 1 minute. Mix in the nuts and cherries. On a baking sheet lined with parchment, pat out the dough into two logs about 12 inches long, 1/2 inch high and 2-1/2 inches wide. Bake in the oven for 50 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool 5 minutes. Then slice about 3/8 inch thick, cutting diagonally. Lay cut side down and return to a 275 degree F oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until toasted, turning them once to dry the other side. Let cool and store in a tightly closed container.

With all that asti and those candles, you really think you're going to be having DINNER????

Girl, I gotta talk to you! :teeth:

Hopefully it'll keep warm Gina. :teeth: Or just maybe they can wait until after dinner. :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Thanks Goofy!!!

Gina, we have all night, ;) that is why I don't want to have to cook anything...so it will keep until we are hungry.

I think you just gave me the PERFECT way to celebrate Valentine's Day with my DH! I've been trying to think of something "different" to do for him, and this would definitely be "different" and something we've never done before. I think he would really, really enjoy it. But, I'm gonna have to do it the night BEFORE V-day as I have to work V-night, but I still think it will work out so hope you don't mind if I copy your idea! :)
