I just don't want to know what's going on any more. From this point on, I will watch the weather channel and skip the news. I am just so tired of hearing all of the horrible things going on in the world. I'd like to say that it doesn't bother me, but it does! And, if it didn't, I wouldn't like myself very much. So, instead of feeling down all the time, I'm just cutting it off! Does this sound crazy? I figure there are enough people around talking about current events that I will still have a general idea of what's happening. I just don't want to watch the details. In case your wondering what triggered this little vent, I turned from four different stations because I didn't want to watch that poor man beg for his life another time knowing that it made no difference! Enough!

I take breaks from the news sometimes too. I watch the nature channel, old movies, or E.:sunny:

I read the news. Somehow it's less disturbing.

I don't watch any news. Like you I think it is too depressing.

Welcome to the News Free Zone!
Ive been here since dh went to Iraq. Anything I need to know about the war, I will learn from my dh.

We're into serious news advoidance in the AM--we now watch Sesame Street during breakfast, and we don't have any kids.

I just can't start my day with so much horror and misery anymore. I keep up with news on line during the day and usually watch the PM news.

Yep,

I don't watch news or the morning shows. I'll read the paper, tho not the really awful news.

herc.

I have done the same thing. I even changed my homepage from the news. Just can't take it anymore.

After working at a news station for 14 years I listen to it from a production point of vew, not necessarily for the "facts". If you see it as "entertainment", which is primarily what it is, it won't bother you so much.

I remember the New York local news back when I lived there TOTALLY depressed me. It wouldn't make the news unless it was ULTRA gory.... :earseek: The meek news I found here in Georgia was much more refreshing and less disgusting, so I felt like I could watch it without losing my lunch! :crazy2:

If it doesnt have Elmo or Bear in the Big Blue House...I gave up watching it years ago!;)

I went to the doctor recently because everytime I would see something on the news I would get such high anxiety that I couldn't catch my breath. Turns out I have panic disorder and since I haven't watched the news it has gotten alot better.

I watch only enough to know a little - seems like all the stations want to exploit the negative over & over. I know its a rough world but I know its a good one too! I just wish they would show it more:( With my husband overseas also, I've become very vigilant with censoring what is on when my kids are around.

I changed my home page from news to the DIS. I like that a lot better. :)

I do keep up with what's going on, however; usually via the local paper. I just don't like to hear it over and over and over and over... The media does tend to harp on the negative.

Absolutely the most horrible thing to hear these days. What do you do if you were a country's president? Save one person or save more? And the saddest part is, there is no end to this. What can we do? I feel that this is even more horrible than WWII.

My prayer with the family. There is no word to describe how horrible this is.

I can truthfully say that I have not watched the news in over a year. It is just too depressing. :(

I stopped watching the news on TV two weeks after 9/11/01. At that point, I was positively glued to the TV and I was getting so anxious all the time. The big news will filter down to you anyway through radio, the internet and even the DIS! No need to get yourself all worked up by watching it on the tube.

we were regular news junkies, but we have stopped watching the news in our house too. I will catch the 1st 5 mins of local news in the morning to get weather and traffic, but we no longer have the news on. I hear all I need to know about Iraq from my ds and the links he sends me and my younger kids ( 8 & 13) don't really need to know just how much danger their older brother is really in.
