I'm beginning to think that I should have stayed over on the cruise line board and not started reading this one..................

We have a lagoon view concierge room booked at the Poly for the last week in August and I keep reading more and more negative posts about that resort. We have stayed off-site many times (usually at a Marriott timeshare or the Marriott World Center) and never had any problems. This is our first time staying on property and I would really like it to be great, but I am having some serious second thoughts. If the Poly is not as nice as I expect it to be, I will kick myself for staying there, because we can stay in a timeshare 2 bedroom condo for about half the price.

For anyone who has stayed Poly concierge very recently........ should I be concerned? Enough to change my reservations?

Given one recent report in particular, I can understand your concern. I have never stayed at the Poly but it certainly seems to be a big-time favorite! Read all the trip reports you can and I think you'll find the overwhelming majority loves it there! Its Concierge level is considered one of the best...the location and beauty of the resort really make it a wonderful place to stay. if you are dissatisfied once you get there - voice your concerns firmly and immediately. Since you won't be staying anywhere else this trip (I assume), you won't find yourself in the position of wishing you'd stayed in another hotel that just so happens to be your favorite;) Give the Poly a try - from everything I've read, you will be at a terrific resort with beautiful landscaping, great dining and transportation options and a wonderful concierge staff.:earsgirl: If, however, the complaints you've read really "hit home" with you, then look into other resorts and make a change. All the Deluxes sound amazing!

I have never stayed at the Poly but I've always read good things about the resort. But I have stayed onsite many times (even though I am a Marriott rewards member) and always enjoyed it. There is just a different atmosphere staying onsite vs. offsite.

You may want to do a search on the Poly using the Search link above and read about other people's experiences at the Poly. I think you will enjoy the resort.

We stayed at the Poly in 2002--not so recent, but we were very happy there. In my opinion, you can't beat the view and location. It is truly magical to look out and see the castle right there and watch the fireworks from your room. The concierge staff was very attentive, the food in the lounge was good, the grounds are spectacular. The only thing I can say that wasn't that great was the room. It wasn't bad, but it was nothing great either. It was a bit worn, but this was before the renovation, so I assume that this was taken care of. The decor wasn't my preference either and I prefer the 2 part bath. But all in all it didn't matter because everything else far outweighed the lackluster of the room.
There are many great resorts on property and you will find many different opinions. Like was suggested, read all of the trip reports, I think you will find many people who were very pleased with the Polynesian.
Enjoy,
Danielle

Hi. we stayed at the Poly garden view concierge in June. The resort is lovely. The food offerings are wonderful. the view is breathtaking from the lounge. The location of both the Hawaii bldg and the Poly just can't be beat.

I wasn't 100% satisfied with the concierge service. But, that's not the reason to choose the Poly. All the things I mention above are what makes the Poly so spectacular. And then there is the pool and beach.... totally wonderful.

The Poly is a low pressure, island-feel, relax your way through your day delux resort. It isn't over the top on elegance. It's just real nice, peaceful, pretty, smells good, has bunnies, ducks, and a peacock or two.

My guess would be you will love it. If you have particular concerns, I would be happy to address them. I'm honest about this resort. It's great, but concierge isn't necessary to enjoy it!

You will love the Poly. We stayed Poly concierge in 2002- regular room last year (4 other families-all wanted same building) and it was great. The offerings were very nice, location of the Hawaii building was perfect (right at the volcano pool and close to main building)

I actually wish we were staying this year but DH & DS chose the Contemporary instead- they wanted a change.

Enjoy your trip

Try not to worry too much. Don't forget, these are all reviews of people you don't know anything about!!

On one of our trips, I wanted to eat in Mexico at Epcot. You should have read all the negative reviews - I wasn't gonna go. Then, one of my friends said her family loved it - so we went. I valued her opinion (and I knew we had similar likes/dislikes) - and we really liked it.

You really have to take everything you read here as what it really is - someone else's opinion. You do have to try it yourself. I hope you have a great trip!!

Also, if you think that, increasingly, the Poly isn't for you - then make a concerted effort to pick a resort that suits your "likes" and/or is close to the parks you are interested in...The Poly is expensive in great part b/c it sits on some VERY expensive real estate! During Value season the LV concierge is $80 more per night than the GV concierge - so if you stay one week you're paying over $600 more just for the view!! Good luck to you!

We've stayed lagoon view concierge in the past and I can tell you that you are about to enter heaven! Try not to worry too much. In addition to fantastic views you are going to love the concierge lounge! The location of the Hawaii building is perfect. In addition, the Hawaii building went under a total refurb within the last year.

We are returning soon and can't wait!

My family loves the Poly. It just can't be beat. Some people complain of the buildings being too spread out, but that just isn't so. It might take 3 or 4 minutes to walk from your room to the GCH, that's it and that's a pretty short walk. My 3 and 5 year old year old walked it MANY MANY times and didn't complain a bit.

We love the theme, you really feel like you're on vacation. The pools are fun.

Can't wait to go back next year to the Poly.

My family loves the Poly also. :lovestruc We keep trying different resorts, but nothing is like the Poly.

We are staying at the Poly in October, and have changed our room from GV, to LV, to GVC. We have stayed LCV twice, before the renovation and the rooms where nice. There is nothing like opening the curtains in your room in the morning and seeing Cinderella's Castle and watching the world wake up. When I think of Disney, that is what I think of.

Some people love it, like us, and some don't. I have a friend who is going to WDW for the first time in October. She doesn't like the look of the Poly, she is staying at WL. Me, I am not that fond of WL. It doesn't appeal to me. Pick what appeals to you and your family and you will be happy.

I just returned Thursday from five days at the Polynesian. My daughter and I loved it. You can't beat the transportation to the MK or Epcot. Just hop on the monorail or take the small boat that takes about 10 minutes to travel over. The pool was awesome with its volcano theme and slide. We didn't stay concierage but our room had a gorgeous view of the Grand Floridian. The beach has a great view of the nightly fireworks from the MK. I am now hooked on the Polynesian.......

I understand your concern with a recent trip report or two--I've also read them because we're thinking about a surprise trip for the kids in Sept. No resort is perfect by any means but I wouldn't let one trip report persuade you to go somewhere else.

Please, check out the tikiman's website

http://tikiman2001.homestead.com/index.html

it has all sorts of valuable info and a link to the Poly message boards. This should help you! Good luck! :D

Stayed at the Poly 3 times in August...will be there again August 23-30 Hawaii building...See you there....you won't regret it!!

I stayed at the Polynesian concierge Lagoon view two weeks ago. It was WONDERFUL!! The room was spotless, had a PERFECT view of the castle, was right next to the lounge. The staff was wonderful, and I have absolutely NO COMPLAINTS about the resort.

I was in room 3501. The last time I was there, a couple years back, I was in 1505 which is first floor with an excelent view as well. We found the 3rd floor to be quieter.

We found the offerings in the lounge to be excellent, and one of the CM's was very generous with the beer--even in the middle fo the day this CM would offer it. Also this same person went out of their way to offer food that wasn't even out--yogurt at lunch time for example.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Anne

If you are really worried about staying at Poly, you might want to reconsider. We were supposed to be staying 6 nights at CR in June then heading to AKL, after the 2nd night I went to AKL & moved us over there early. We weren't sure that we would like CR, I kept reading wonderful reviews so I though it would be fine - it wasn't. There was nothing "wrong" with the resort, it just wasn't for us. We stayed Poly concierge LV 2 years ago and will never stay there again. Just stayed AKL concierge and loved it. Everyone has different opinions, that is why there are different resorts. Good luck and have a great trip.

We stayed in the Poly Concierge in January of this year. IT WAS HEAVEN! We were upgraded to a Lagoon View of the castle. We could see the beach. It was so very quiet and magical. EVERY time I entered the resort I literally could feel any and all tension I felt leave. I loved the beach. We spent an afternoon just hanging at the beach...the kids playing between the beach and the pool. We ate at Kona's one morning...wonderful. AND the transportation...WOW! We loved being on the monorail, and the buses were awesome.

Interestingly, my family of 5 had no problem living in one room...plenty of room for lots of junk. There was enough drawers for us to each have one. The daybed was big enough for any one of us to sleep on. I thought I would be sad to not have a balcony...because we were on the 2nd floor...but the window opened so...you could have the balcony feel.

Now my thoughts on others:

We did the resort hopping to AKL, and it was beautiful...just not for us. I thought the rooms were smaller and not nearly enough space. I also thought I would love the pool and hot tub...the pool was so much colder...I think because of the size.

We really utilized the transportation system...I was SHOCKED that 5 HUGE resorts used 1 bus in the Epcot area. Those buses were always bulging at the seams...no matter what time of day. We would hop on a bus to YC...to eat at Beaches, and we always stood or had to wait for a 2nd bus.

With all this said, I think there are many resorts to choose from...and it's going to be wonderful, no matter what! It's Disney! :D

We were just at the Polynesian resort lagoon view concierge (room 3502) in June. This was our 3rd stay at the resort and we just LOVE it! Wonderful location, beautiful view of the castle and the GF and CR. The water mice are fun to rent....the torches at night are a nice touch...food offerings at the lounge are some of the best...our kids (5 & 9) love the Neverland Club so DH and I can eat one dinner alone at the Kona Cafe - our favorite Disney restaraunt. Over-all feel of the resort is very relaxing.

Hope you enjoy your vacation no matter what you choose! :)

I'm going to say it again--not every resort suits every person. That is why there are so many different resorts with different theme-ing (is that a word?)

Decide which theme you prefer and go for it. You may love it, you may not, but you'll never know until you try. I thought we would like the CR--Ugh!! We didn't. I thought we would endure a stay at the Poly because of a great rate we got--We loved it!

In short, don't be afraid to try a resort or restaurant or ride because someone on the DIS didn't like it. We all have different tastes and what one person "hated" another person "loves." Plus, if you find you don't like your room, ask to move. It's not that hard! Have fun on your trip and enjoy that volcano pool for me. It's the best!
