I am shopping around for our trip in August. Last August we paid $620 for the 4 of us from JFK. Now the prices keep going up. Jetblue wants over $900. Songs prices keep changing. Last week it was $610. Over the weekend it went up to $750. This morning was $700. Now it is $1020. That is a big difference since this morning.
I am in a little panic. I am not going to spend over $750 for air tickets. I remember in the past, the earlier you book the cheaper it is. I should of booked song last week but our plans were not confirmed yet. Oh well, my loss.
Please keep your fingers crossed that the price comes down!!!!

Unforturnately, in general air fare is not going down! Air fare will more then likely continue to go up with less deals. Even SWA said they are going to be forced reevaluate finances and possibly raise fare brackets. A reality is air fare isnt going down. We are going to have to pay more. The industry really never followed and inflation and now its catching up with the airlines. If you cant spend under 750 which is 187 with taxa ticket, good luck because it seems less and less of those cheap fares are out there. Not that you cant them, they just dont seem as readily available.

Matt

According to my quick research, the cheapest fares that are available are 207 most days in August for a 6-8 day trip. 207 doesnt seem horrible. I am suprised its that much but in a way I am not... Unforturnately its not direct, you go through miami, delta is 255 nonstop.

It's no guarantee and it may just be me, but in the last few years of finding decent airfare, I've always found the best rates right around 4 months out. So, it
might be a little early to be worrying about August flights. Most travel sites are talking about Spring flight deals, I haven't seen very many, if any, mention summer fares yet.

All you can do is set a target price and the minute you see it....book it! Then stop looking and don't beat yourself up if you do happen to see it go lower.

I was worried about our May trip. The flights I wanted were hovering around $263 (total with tax and everything) forever. I decided I'd be happy with $200 R/T and sure enough, at four months out, almost to the day, the flights went to $185 R/T...I booked them right away and now they are back up to $263.

Now the price is $175.60 pp. That is a huge difference since last night!!! I do not want to wait any longer. I have to make a few calls to confirm everything and just book it.
One last question:
For those who have flown on Jetblue and song, what is the difference? We have only flew on jetblue.
Thanks

Prepare for a schedule change which could easily include a layover in Atlanta. DL is merging Song back into DL mainline and using the Song jets for other flights. So the big difference is also that you will probably NOT have in seat TVs etc on your new DL flight.

Hi! I, too am experiencing the same thing as you for our July flights. We usually fly jet blue and go the end of August and last year we payed only $138 plus taxes etc. round trip to Orlando from JFK. This year, however, we are going early July. I started checking for our July trip about 6 weeks ago and they were $119 each way and I thought that was a lot so I am waiting. Now, I checked a few days ago and they were $139 one way and now today they are asking $169. I could kick myself for not booking earlier. I am so afraid they may go up even more, but am hoping as WaltD4me said that maybe as we get closer to the date they may go down. :confused3

WaltD4me What airline did you fly when the price went down at 4 months? Thanks. I just do not know what to do at this point. I feel like a gambler and I do not have much experience or luck with that. LOL. Help!

Good Luck andychris14! :sunny: :wizard:

OK, I know I am coming from a different part of the country, but American has round trip from O'Hare to MCO for $187pp (including fees!) for the beginning of December. That is only $500 for the 3 of us!!!!!!!!! Monday will be the first time I can price my actual dates and if it's $187, I am going to jump on it!!
Good luck!

I see your from Chicago, and if your from the North side you might want to consider Midwest Airlines out of Milwaukee - direct flight and cheaper parking that O'Hare. We just booked flights over the Memorial Day weekend for $191pp including fees so at least if gives you 1 more option :earsboy:

Have you checked into flying out of Newburgh, NY? Allegiant Air has flights for $59 each way into Sanford. It's a pretty good deal if you don't mind a bit of extra travel time.

I booked $187 with direct route on Allegient for June/July dates. Now I see they are running a special promotion, so I'm going to call and see if I can revise the ressies. We like flying into Sanford .vs. MCO. Yes that's more than we've paid in the past, but tourism is back up plus the airlines are really struggling to keep afloat. I'm just satisfied that I have the flights and resort rooms booked and now can move on to AP, limo, and dining ressies. If some deals come our way, I'll just revise what I have. June 22--Here we come!! :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

It's really unbelievable the way that the rates change (and USUALLY not to our advantage)!! I am leaving in 28 days for WDW out of JFK...I've ALWAYS flown Jet Blue, but found a MARGINALLY better deal with Delta Song - I used them last year to go to DW in California...and had a good experience...so what the heck.... I originally was seeing a round trip fare for $275.00 - I played the "waiting" game, as historically, I've NEVER paid more than $200.00 to go to Fla this time of year....well...the NEXT day, the fare jumped to $300.00/person...and I jumped on it! GOOD THING TOO!!! TODAY a flight to and from on my dates are up to $665.00/person! This is just CRAZY!!!

Wow.If anyone can find good airfares they need to jump on them asap.We are going the beginning of April and the fares are up to $260RT PP! When you are used to paying $115 RT PP (and 'yes' I am spoiled) that is an awful lot to pay!! Now I'm seeing $331 fares for the other airlines that have a connection each way.I have not purchased yet.Maybe it's a mistake....I'll find out when the end of February gets here and it's still high.
It's frustrating not to be able to find a descent airfare... (I'll even take $200!!)
Good luck to all.Hopefully there's another airfare war soon..

If only I could dream of $185 out of MSP. With no competition, it is rare to find anything under $200 on a nonstop.

Here's the laugh about my Dec dates. NWA of course has their dates out...gotta wait a bit for Sun Country to catch up. So far it's been around $320 per person :rotfl2: Then earlier this week I was doing my daily check and it was $615 per person :rotfl2: Yeah, right! Who's going to pay that?

I, too, have heard that the better deals are now closer to departure date than before. Typically, I used to find deals 9-11 months out. Now, it's a little more like 3-6. And I am sure it depends on your location as well.

I'm curioius about Allegient--have you flown with them before? What's your experience been? And how close is Sanford to WDW/why do you prefer it over MCO? TIA! :flower:

Thanks for the heads up but we always take a limo so DH doesn't have to wory about brushing off snow when we get back!! :cold:

I just booked my air tickets from Southwest Airlines.$237.60 RT PP from Albany,NY to Orlando. We decided to take the 6:55pm out the night before (it was less expensive) and stay at a airport hotel thru Priceline. And on the way back we decided to take the 8am out instead of the 11:15am because it was also less expensive. So I guess we have to sacrifice to get the price we want but the good side is they are both non-stop flights.Yeah.I'm so excited!

I know what you mean. Our last two two years we/ve flown JetBlue in August. The rates were way too high this year. I booked 4 for $700 on Song/Delta out of LGA. I'd really prefer JFK, but for the price I'll put up with LGA.
I can only hope Delta doesn't change the flight on me, now that Song won't be around in the summer.

Good Luck!

Oil is $68 a barrel. Super-cheap plane fares are mostly a thing of the past.
