You have a new call from 301-694-XXXX (wvjules) To your number 301-694-XXXX

So I'm looking at the callerID last night b/c DD said I called when I know I dind't. Low and behold the caller ID shows me calling the home phone from the home phone multiple times. Just for curiousity sake I call the number back and get a man's answering machine.

I tried calling verizon but get disconnected. Is this the new telemarketing spoofing or something different?

Anyone else get calls from themselves?

I've never gotten calls from myself....but I know our IT department can call and make it look like anyone they want calling....kind of scary really!

Okay, this sounds the like the start of some horror / slasher movie. :rotfl: Did you check the attic yet? ;)

Seriously though, that is weird. You called your own home number and got another guys answering machine? Weird. Sounds like some lines are crossed or what ever the technical telephone term is for that. :rotfl:

I forgot to add that I did answer it when I called myself and got dead air.

Oh, all I could think was "The call is coming from inside the house." lol

I have had several calls lately from myself on my callwave. They have all been political calls.

My pants have called a few people at times, when the screen wasn't locked. Maybe that is what happened?

Nope, its the home phone and we only have one.

I finally talked to someone at verizon. After the girl stopped laughing she put in a trouble call saying it sounded like crossed wires or something.

sounds like it could also be a call from a spoof card someone dials an 800 number you enter in the number you are calling then enter a second number that you want to appear as calling the party just google spoof card and you will see that it is

My Mom has an answering machine on her computer and it has caller ID. We get calls from "me" all the time! So weird to see my own name calling me. The phone company and the answering machine company had no reason for why it happened other than "wires crossed" but it has been happening for years.

By the way, I never leave me a message. :rotfl:

That movie still scares the crap out of me!

I think I know.

My DH got an App update on his Blackberry yesterday and when he was going through all the new ones, he came across an App called Bluff My Calls. This App would show the phone number of the person you call on their own caller ID.

Who ever is calling you must be using that App or something like it. I didn't even know something like that existed until yesterday.

This is funny that you should mention this, my dh got a text yesterday from my cell phone ( and we don't use or have text messaging on our phones) that said " sorry can't talk right now"?????? It freaked us out and I still can't understand how that happened??:confused3:eek:

It sounds like the spoofing thing but we just got our phone 2 weeks ago or so and no one has the number but my parents and DBFs parents.

Wouldn't the person calling atleast need to know my last name so they can spoof it on the callerID?

(I can't read too much about "spoofing" at work. Most of the sites come up as "HACKING" and are restricted.)

LOL.... this is TRUE.... in a town near me, someone was able to do this, and they told the homeowner that they were calling from inside the house.... I'll find the link.

From Wikipedia:

Frequently, caller ID spoofing is used for prank calls. For example, someone might call a friend and arrange for "The White House" to appear on the recipient's caller display. In December 2007, a hacker used a Caller ID spoofing service and was arrested for sending a SWAT team to a house of an unsuspecting victim. [6] In February 2008, a Collegeville, Pennsylvania man was arrested for making threatening phone calls to women and having their home numbers appear "on their caller ID to make it look like the call was coming from inside the house."[7]

For years whenever my Dad called, my caller ID said it was the US Immigration Service.

I have had a few calls from "The State of Colorado" or some other state that I live nowhere close to. I always giggle a little. Really? The whole state is calling little old me? How thoughtful!

I have never had that happen but I kept getting phone calls from someone swearing I kept calling him. I told him he must have misdialed but he read me the number straight from the caller ID and said he redialed straight from caller ID. It was weird!

:lmao:

What happens to us is: If I press last number redial, it calls someone else, not the number I'm trying to redial. I think my phone just has issues, though.

This is excatly what happpened to me. My now ex-friend :scared1:was stalking and harrassing me and it took the cops to figure this out.

Don't do it people it is not funny and not worth all the problems and I am not ONLY talking about about all the trouble she got into with the cops and court.
