I've known I've needed a knee replacement for about four years, but the surgeon up in New York advised me to put it off because she thought I was too young (they don't last forever). The time has come and I saw the surgeon down here yesterday and got scheduled for a knee replacement on January 26th. My wife asked me if I was nervous, but I'm actually excited. By late March or April I will be able to walk around Epcot with no pain (yay!). :yay:

Great news. My mom had one done a couple of years ago and it was much easier to recover from than she thought it would be and she is in her 60s. She is so glad she is had it done and it has made a big difference in her life. My only advise is to do all the recommended rehab. She kind of petered out at the end and didn't do enough so she doesn't have the amount of extension she should have.

I agree about the rehab. My dad had both knees done. Once in his 60s and he didn't do as much rehab as he should have and the knee is not perfect because of that. Then he had his other knee done at the age of 75. He did all the rehab and it worked out very well.

Good luck.

Congrats, George!!

I have a friend who just had hers done about 3 weeks ago. She's up and about and can't believe she has no pain! How wonderful! I hope it goes very well and the rehab does also. I am excited for you!!

My DH needs an elbow replacement and is waiting it out as long as possible. I am sure he will have the same thoughts as you do when the time comes and is right!

I had a replacement 2 years ago and it was the smartest thing I ever did.

Congratulations. I need one myself and my Dr won't do it for another 10 years or so because of my age. I am counting the years until I will be as lucky as you. Good luck on the surgery and best wishes for a speedy recovery and active life again.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. My next door neighbor had her knee replaced about 14 months ago. She is getting along great and says the surgery was so worth it.

My sis had one replaced 18 months ago - she's so glad! She had to have the opposite hip replaced first though. She can't believe the improvement in the pain and her ability to walk. I had never seen her sweat, but I took her to a lot of her therapies - and boy, did she sweat! So follow the instructions you receive and you'll be fine.

Good luck George, I think it's better to do it "young" than waiting until you're "too old". You'll be up & around in no time.:)

I've never understood the "too young" reasoning. I just had my second replacement three weeks ago and I'm 32. I refused to live the next 30 years or so in excruciating pain because someone arbitrarily decided that I wasn't old enough to need one. My knee was wore out; it needed to be replaced.

Unfortunately, due to my hyperflexibility, I'll need a new plastic spacer every five to ten years for the rest of my life, but honestly, it's a small price to pay for the pain going away.

Good luck on your surgery! Make sure to do your rehab. It's honestly the best thing to get you up and going as fast as possible.

My mom just had a knee replacement on Dec. 29th. She is just shy of turning 70 and is doing fabulous. She had her other knee replaced 6 years ago and said this time was better than the last. The new technology/procedure has really improved.

Good luck with your surgery!

Congratulations!!

So what brand knee are you getting? I know, strange question but I live near the "Orthopedic Capital of the World"

Congrats George!:cool1: I am 50 I guess a little too young for one, but its my feet and hips that hurt the worst, due to the arthritis settling in.:headache:

Can I have your old one? ;)

Seriously, good luck..I think I need knees and hips...:goodvibes

The old knee is really shot. I had major surgery on it 30 years ago and there's not much left now. Back then, there wasn't much PT involved. I had an older doctor who simply had me do my own exercises using a bag filled with canned food. Since I really want this one to last a long time, I'm going to follow every instruction. I need to be doing gigs by Valentine's Day.

I'll be getting the latest model from Stryker. Funny thing is they are made just a few miles from where I used to live.

Thanks for all the good wishes!

Hey, good for you! How long does it usually take to get over these surgeries?

I like the idea of you walking around WDW without pain. Ugh, that's a lot of walking to be hurting at the same time.
