SO while I wait till my doctor's appointment tomorrow morning, let's play diagnose me...

Seriously though, is it possible to get mono twice?

I am exhausted. Pure out can't get through the day exhausted. I have to take naps, go back to sleep after I make my husbands breakfast and lunch and see him off to work. I had been eating healthy and exercising for the last 6 weeks or so, and then all of a sudden last tuesday I started feeling like this. I've given in a week to clear up if it was a cold or something, but nothing has gotten any better, so I put a call in to the doctor. I really feel like I'm out of breath from getting off of the couch.

I don't have a fever, though i've had warm and cold spells, I've had headaches, earaches, a short lived slightly sore throat, and some nausea but nothing extreme loss of appetite at times, and some nasty mood swings though.

I had mono in 2003, and I remember feeling this exhausted, but I also had a rash and weird stuff with it.

Anyone had anything like this before? What was it? I guess I should know for sure by tomorrow afternoon or a couple days after if they run bloodwork.

Any chance you're pregnant? ;)

Not really... I'm on bc pill for 8 years now, take it within the hour every night. I did skip a pill in july, but it was while I was away for work so I didn't even see my dh for a week after the skip and didn't miss my period last month. (sorry if its tmi)

Obviously, everyone is different, but for me, how I knew I was pregnant was the the overwhelming exhaustion.

Like I literally could not keep my eyes open.

I hope you're able to figure out what's causing it.

Maybe low iron? :)

I would ask your dr. to do blood tests for anemia, full metabolic panel and also have the dr. check out possible thyroid stuff.

If I were you, I'd take a pregnancy test anyway. I got pregnant WHILE on the pill and didn't miss any periods. Didn't find out I was pregnant until I miscarried.

Also, I have heard that you can only have mono once, but once you have had it, the virus stays in your system, and can flare back up as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

My son, 12, was diagnosed with Epstein Barr virus over the winter. It is a mono like virus that lives in your blood , though dormant. It can reactivate if you get sick, cold, flu, etc...

Maybe you have a sinus infection especially with headaches and sore throat and stuff.

Yep. I have hypothyroidism which caused anemia (because it caused such heavy periods.) Either of them alone is bad, but BOTH of those can cause extreme, extreme exhaustion, warm and cold spells, headaches, and nasty mood swings.

Mono and Epstein Barr are closely related. Most of us have had EBV without knowing it. Have the doc run bloodwork. Then you'll know for sure what's going on.

im with the people who say get checked for anemia-i am terribly anemic-and i have all the symptoms you describe.

Getting mono twice, or never getting mono completely cleared, is very possible.

Same here...

I really thought I had it twice. Even the doctor said that I had every indication of it even thought the conventional wisdom is that you only have it once.

Hope you feel better soon. :flower3:

To answer your question... yes you can get mono twice. It's very uncommon but possible. I have had mono three times; all about 4 years apart - one during middle school, high school and college. I hope you are feeling better soon. :)

My friend had those symptoms last year and tuned out to be a bad sinus infection along with being anemic. Feel better!

How are you feeling? Hope things went well at the dr. for you. Wishing you all the best.

I've had mono twice, once back in 2001 and again in 2008. And no I'm not a teenager or young college student...instead a mom now in my 30s.....
