We'll be heading to Orlando 10/21 and staying off-site until we check in at WL on 10/23. We're planning on checking out DTD and/or Boardwalk on Saturday afternoon/evening after we check in off-site. Sunday, we'll go to SeaWorld.

After reading up on Priceline a few weeks ago, I was thinking I'd try it - that Sheraton Safari looked pretty cool and folks were getting it for about $45/night. But I'm so hung up on possibly getting something really crappy.

DH suggested Expedia, so I checked it out and found two hotels for about the same price as the Safari on priceline (though, they both apparently charge about $9 for "resort" fees). They are the Palms Hotel and Villas and the Palms by Lexington. I posted yesterday about these and didn't get any bites. I just don't know! The reviews of both places are really mixed... from "best place we ever stayed" to "disgraceful!" Sheesh! I realize that people have different standards, but that's just crazy!

So, now I'm checking priceline and hotwire again. Safari shows up on both lists as a 3-star; however, the lowest 3-star in LBV area for hotwire is $71/night (and still don't KNOW it will be the Safari).

Someone with experience here, please set me straight! The thing is, wherever we stay, we're not looking for luxury or a resort feeling. Just a clean room that we don't feel ripped off at (believe me, I've had some hotel rip-offs and I really hate that feeling).

If I bid $45 for a 3-star, are the chances *good*, *great* or *poor* that I'll get a hotel I'll feel good about.

Thanks - (sorry I rambled...that happens on my way to crazy!)

I would go with priceline.

some of the other hotels are in DD.

none look horrible in the 3 stars.

of course I am cheap - I would go with 2 1/2 stars - bid $36 and hope for all stars - it hasn't turned up lately - only AmeriSuites - but you might get lucky!!!

you are only going for 2 days - not like a week or anything.

I would go with priceline two because be only there for 2 days. If it was for a week I would not risk it.

I bid for a 3 star hotel.

Also check out travelzoo.com for specials.

What ever you do stay away from the Mircotel Inn and Suites on Canada Avenue. That was the worse hotel that I stay at. I am not picky at all.

I'm feeling better about the Palms -- either one, really. Just when I'd think Palms Hotel & Villa was better, then I'd read something on Palms by Lexington that made me change my mind. Since they are apparently side-by-side, and rooms seem comparable, I'll just go with the less expensive one.

I was a little worried about Palms Hotel & Villas because it looked as if it could go either way. Sometimes photos are really great, and when you get there you realize the property is really run down and the photos were just really good pictures KWIM? We stayed at this house on Amelia Island one time - the pix on the net were just beautiful...but it was mostly creative photography, because the actual place was really a MESS! Same thing at a hotel on Jekyll Island - got what we thought was a great package for an Oceanfront Hotel. The place was a total DUMP and while it WAS technically ocean-front, the ocean was about a mile away and a playground was directly in front of our balcony. So we've learned to be cautious -- even cynical.

Thanks for your endorsement!
