Paying for overpriced buffets with bad food. Chef Mickey to name one. Come to think of it, I'll be good with no buffet.

I sort of brought this up in another thread. We are going down in April and my son loves The Crystal Palace so I was going to book it. I can't believe the price now and like you said the food is terrible now!! It's too bad. These are our traditions.....

This is especially true with character breakfasts. It is so liberating being able to stop off at Publix to buy cereal, yogurt, a box of muffins, some fruit and orange juice and call that breakfast each morning as we dress for the parks. Once my DD outgrew character meals, we saved a ton of money, time and calories. No more skillets of grease first thing in the morning. And no more $100 checks.

Welcome to the "other side".

The only Disney buffets I will continue to patronize are Boma and Biergarten, maybe Cape May dinner once in awhile (none are character meals). And not on a regular basis.

Disney figured out awhile back that guests will pay through the nose for the characters. Or they'll spring for the dining plan, which I prefer not to use.

Buffets in Disney generally are not very good. I totally agree. The ONLY exception for me is breakfast. CPalace, Cape May, & Tusker breakfast are all very good. I'll continue to visit thou. But for dinner and lunch, no way! (Although C.Palace lunch/dinner has always been good, i'd still rather have table service). So, table service from now on thank you very much!

Tusker House breakfast is the only buffet we have booked for our upcoming trip, only because we haven't tried it before and I've only read rave reviews for it. We're on the deluxe DDP too, so that's one buffet out of 17 restaurants we'll be dining at. Obviously, I'm not a fan of buffets either. :)

Ugh, thats how I felt last March when we went for the first time, in fact i cancelled several of the buffets ADR's we had, because I just could not take it anymore. Sadly I think we ares tuck doing character meals for at least a few more years. I booked CP, and H&V and CTR all for breakfast for our upcoming trip, I'm seriously debating canceling CP, I just think it's too much.

Between H&V and CP, i'd honestly be cancelling H&V. Its messier, noisier, and the food is not as good. But if youre there specificially for the characters, thats a different story.

We too are not fans of buffets. We do enjoy CP @ breakfast, Bomas, and Cape May @ dinner. We don't like to do the character meals anymore, as our kids are grown, but we really enjoy CP.

Count me in as another anti-buffet person! I done my fair share, and have enjoyed some of them , but for the price...I rather pay for food that is specifically prepared for me.

Also, I find buffets to be inconsistent. The first time I went to Biergarten it was AMAZING...I couldn't wait to go again. Five months later I go back...Blek.

I would say the only one I'd do again is Tusker House but even then it's so overpriced.

No more buffets for us or character meals. We really enjoyed Akerhus but stopped going when they made it a princess meal.

The only buffet we will now book is Boma and that is just for the soups, sale and fruit. If they were to make it a character meal it would be struck off our list. Character meals are not relaxing and the food is plentiful but not very flavorful. JUst my 2 cents.

I should also add that prices dont mean squat to me. I could care less how much the buffet cost because we always get free dining. Im irked by the food quality at buffets. Thats the reason I wont go...other than bfast at CP, Tusker & Cape May. I looove bfast. :goodvibes

We are going specifically for the characters, the kids are very into the Disney juniors now, so that's why H&V is still on the list, blah. We did CP for Dinner in March , and I hated it, our reservation is at 10:30 , DH is insisting we keep it, but I'm trying to change his mind.

Have you ever tried CP breakfast? OMG its WONDERFUL!!! You must try it. Its sooo good. Pooh's puffed french toast is so yummy. The breakfast lasagna is TO DIE FOR. And they have an omlette station/made to order eggs....here you can get choc chip pancakes. Plus the fresh fruit is amazing. You must try it! :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

We gave up on buffets without the DDP 3 years ago when my 13-year old vegetarian DD turned 10. I just couldn't stand paying $40+ for her to pick at a buffet even with the TIW card.

We love the breakfast buffets. Maybe it is because we don't have them here, but I really miss the Disney breakfast buffets. We haven't ever had a buffet for dinner or lunch but we found most of the breakfast buffets to be great. Tusker House was an exception- everything was lukewarm and stale.

I agree with the buffets. Even Boma wasn't very good when we were down last week. I hate that the family doesn't eat together. We are all out and about foraging. There are so many other delicious meals to be had--Sanaa, Grand Floridian Cafe, Tutto Italia. We will try Biergarten, because we've never been and I think the kids will like the music. We are also booked at H and V to see Jake. I have very low expectations about the food.

I wouldn't cancel the Crystal Palace. The breakfast food is actually good. It is a lot harder to screw up scrambled eggs then a dinner meal if you think about it. And it is such a pretty restaurant. We had breakfast there in March, and everyone really enjoyed it. Definitely a keeper!

I've not read many complimentary things about the CMs at H&V. If anything, I think you should cancel that one.

It needs to be said that buffets almost never represent the best example of their cuisine.

I don't mind a buffet or two (particularly during breakfast) during a given trip. Incan do without character meals though, personally. Crystal Palace may be the one place I would go to in spite of the characters, and it too can be quite the hassle.
