I'm done with Disney vs. I'll take a break

I'm excited to try fast pass plus. We are usually rope drop and then break and go back in the evening. Being able to secure 3 fast passes for evening hours is awesome. Plus after sitting for over a hour two times for parades, only to have rude people physically move our stroller b/c my husband took our son to the bathroom, I am glad we can get preferred seating for parades.

I look at it this way . . .things are constantly changing, some for the better, some for the not so better . . .WDW has always held a special place in my heart and always will.

When we go to WDW we aren't just there for the rides/attractions, we are there getting a break from reality.

I can understand people's frustrations with things, but there is no such thing as the "perfect" vacation . . .I have seen so many things in our many years of going to WDW and see that people try to plan their every second of every day and you see many crabby, negative people and I just say to myself "why?" its a vacation . . a chance to be with your family without having to go to work, without having to plan what's for dinner, without any stress, cares or worries . . .I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I really don't care if I go on all the rides I want and I don't have to get to a certain place at a certain time. People just need to learn to chill and relax and take it slow, look at the scenery.

That being said, I can't wait to go back . . .pixiedust:

Oh the DIS Boards need a like button so bad :thumbsup2. I am exactly like you when I go. I take my time, enjoy the scenery, smell the flowers, etc. It's a vacation and I won't be upset if I don't get to ride every ride or see all the shows. Just the fact I am there is enough for me (and I will be there in a couple weeks!) :goodvibes.

this is what I like to see people going in and actually liking it. As I have said I have not used it yet but have an open mind as I think it may actually benefit us. It's an on going discussion and will be for a long time.

I honestly don't think *most* people you are voicing complaints/concerns or negative experiences with it want to go in and end up hating it.

I'd like to go in November and end up enjoying FP+. I'd like to find that it will really work for us. I have significant doubts that it will. That doesn't mean I'm not open to the idea of it working out well, as I completely am. Having concerns doesn't mean I'm not open to the idea it'll work out. :confused3

We just came back from our last trip and we will not be going back for a while. WDW just wasn't the same for us. We are not saying we will not be going back, but we are planning on taking a long break. Before I used to split our vacation money to be able to do Disney this time it will be different.

My biggest thing is that people are saying I'm done with Disney and canceling their vacation just because they say they have more planning than normal and it's stressful. If you went to Disney and didn't like it or it was not for you and then you decide to be done or take a break but people are not going because of planning stress. The main reason I brought this thread up for is to try and calm some of those heated threads or people and stop the what seems constant negative threads and putting more a positive out look on things. The owner of the disboards himself has said that he hasn't seen as much traffic on the disboards regarding one thing like this in the 16 year history of the boards.

Maybe you should try out the new system before vowing your undying love for Disney. I was just like you...until last month-our first trip experience with FP+. Let's just say I'm not saying I'm NEVER coming back. But after a trip per year(sometimes more) since 2006, FP+ has caused me to say I'm on a break-at least 2 years or more. This new system is for the dogs. Those who like it must have a drastically different touring style than my family. Which is cool. It takes all types to make the world go round. But for ME, for my family, it doesn't work & makes no financial sense to spend thousands to stand in line all day when before we rode all day.

THIS!!! This is our family too!

Now, I really am trying to keep a good attitude for our next trip but like you, our family just tours differently from some people.

I finally broke the fp + news to my hubby today at lunch. Now, I want you all to know, I had a smile on my face and tried to be totally positive. :goodvibes My DH doesn't read these boards so he has no info or bias from other people's trips or anything. And to let you know, my DH is very unemotional. If he showed any less emotion, he'd be dead. And he was again, very unemotional during our conversation. No rants, no temper tantrums, nothing like that. Very. Calm. :) Here's how the convo went...

me: ok so I have to tell you some things about fp. Now, when we go to MK we will need to find a CM or go to the machine to schedule our fp's. (purposefully not telling him about lines to just get to schedule the fp's. We might not have any when we get there so I'm trying to stay positive, ya know?) We get 3.

DH: only 3?

me:yeah.

DH: that sucks.

me: Yes, but think of all those people who like to sleep in on vacation. Now they can ride Splash or Space, whatever, without waiting forever in line. They'll be assured to get a fp.

DH: That's true. That's nice for them.

me: Yeah. Ok, also at epcot, they have a little thing called tiering. So....we will have to ride Soarin' or TT standby and get a fp for the other cause you can't get fp for both.

DH: what?

me: yeah. But maybe we should get fp for Soarin and you guys could ride TT in the single rider line?

DH: ....yeaaaaah....

me: again, think how nice it is for all those people who want to sleep in. They get to ride it now without huge lines!

DH: yeah. But that still sucks. Our family doesn't tour that way. We are used to riding multiple times with fp's.

me: well, true, but it's ok. We just have to tour differently now. We'll still get to ride everything we want probably at least once.

DH: yeah. We're only going to do the parks one or two days anyway, right? But I think after this trip we don't have to do Disney for a while. Or maybe just enjoy an offsite resort without going to any parks like we did that one time. That was great.

me: yes, it was. I can see us doing that again, no biggie.

Probably not how Disney would like our conversation to end up but can't help that. And ya know, I think fp+ is a good thing for most visitors who don't plan their trip out like we do. They sleep in, maybe don't worry about fp's....this will help them out. I just don't see it helping us out.

And if this is the biggest problem my family faces, we're doing pretty good, right? I might not like the new system but compared to other problems it's nothing!! We might not be back for a while but we've had so many awesome memories there, we'll be back at some point, I'm sure. :)

I love your husband's reaction. Mine would be The same way as he sees it as a vacation and what happens, happens. We typically go every 18 months and are going in November but are strongly considering a cruise next. The one thing I think is we will not overplan or over schedule ourselves this time around and enjoy more resort time and special activities.

I tested FP+ and Magic Bands in August 2013, with my DS13 at the time. We actually loved it, however we were few and far between and actually felt like celebrities because everyone was asking us about how they could get a MB. It helped us be able to sleep in and plan HS and Epcot at our own pace. I did feel FP was not as good in MK and they put FP in place for rides that didn't need it such as POTC, HM, IASM to name a few. What hurt me on the last trip was 1)my son is a teenager and not as willing to follow my Commando and go go go behavior and 2)I saw some things like MK being dirty which I have never experienced before and looking run down. I also had an incident with a cleaning staff taking the tip out of the room and not cleaning it and didn't feel it was handled well. I still love Disney I would go back tomorrow if I could. i am not done with Disney but I may be more inclined not to go back yearly now since there is not much change in rides/shows.

Those.people aren't the majority. Heck, those people aren't even really those that most would say are the most vocal.in their.dislike of fp+.

And if someone wants to say they are cancelling a trip because there.is too much planning involved now, that is their right. It's just as valid of a POV as someone who loves planning ahead and is excited about how fp+ enhances that.

What makes the threads heated is not the core feeling (whether someone likes or dislikes fp+) - it is generally dismissing the other side's POV that causes the heated discussion. :confused3:

I guess I was just trying to see what others thought about people saying they were done with Disney because of FP+.

Yeah. Oh, and I think I need an academy award for the acting I did. :p I was totally Pollyanna on him, not revealing too much of my true feelings. Now to do it again for the kids. ugh. :rotfl:

We canceled our April trip but still have November booked-so far. I'm keeping up with threads here dealing with FP+. My SIL and a few other families I know are going to WDW over the next several months. I'll weigh what they say and what Dis members are posting about their experiences. If it's getting better, we'll go. If not, we'll take more time off from WDW.
Anyone who wants to post about either their love, annoyance, etc. has valuable information. This is the Disboards not the DisloveDisneyWorldatanycostboards.

I like this conversation positive and open minded. I myself probably won't be back to disney for at least a few years after we go this year. My dad seems to be the same as your husband more of a go with the flow let the other people in the family do the planning I'll just relax and have fun kind of person.

Oh, I am trying. At least on the outside. But I won't lie to ya. After our first day there, if we have a bad experience, I'm sure it will hit the fan on the way home to Bonnet Creek as we dissect how our day went. :rotfl:
