My wife and I are considering purchasing 220 points in the DVC. I have a couple of concerns however.

First, what do y'all think of the WLV. To tell you the truth, they don't appeal all that much to me. Have they imptoved transportation to and from the lodge? Is the theme pool now overcrowded?

Second, what exactly is the signifigance of my "Home" resort? Ae the points to stay there the same as other DVC resorts on property? Is it easier to make a reservation at your "home" resort?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is easier to get reservations at your home resort. We are members at OKW and have to tried to get in the BWV last December, and had no luck, could not even make the wait list. I say buy at the resort you want to stay at!

Personally, I think you get less for a point spent at VWL. The points are the same per night as the "prefered" view at BWV, yet you don't have the ability to walk to any park, there is no Boardwalk area surrounding it and it has the same small units.

BWV returns a higher valeu because of its location.

OKW is my favorite. The rooms are much larger, you can park right in front of your unit, the points per night are lower, the whole laid back atmosphere and on top of all that, it has the lowest annual dues of any resort.

OKW and BWV are still available through resale. The tight market has made the saving less, but they are still available.

"Home Resort" has to do with reserving. You can reserve 11 months in advance at your home resort, 7 months in advance at any other resort. The eleven month window is important. There are times of year, and units that are very difficult to get without the eleven month window.

DVC sales has been trying to steer people towards buying at VB since the sales there have been so awful. Watch out for that.

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs", Karl Marx,This has failed every time it has been tried, why do we still have liberals?

Do not buy where you don't think you will want to vacation for the next 41 years. The 11 month booking window for home resort is very important if you are travelling at busy DVC times (these tend to be off season for non-DVC members). Research the available resorts and decide which is most important to you. Be aware that there will be a DVC at Beach Club late next year.

VWL, BWV, and the future BCV all will be hotel type accommodations with entry from hallways etc. OKW is a townhome type accommodation with seperate entry and parking outside your door. As Rich said, the atmosphere is not the only difference. BWV and the future BCV have an advantage of being close to Epcot and MGM. VWL relies on boat to MK and buses everywhere else. OKW relies on buses to everything except downtown Disney, which is a short walk on a path.

I will have to agree with Diane's words. Don't buy there if you aren't totally thrilled. Remember, you are spending a big chunk of change and if you are not happy with WLV you will regret it in the long run. If you are happier at OKW or BW and cannot find a resale be sure to be put on a waitlist. There are several resale brokers out there and they may be able to help you. Just be sure to buy where you are the happiest and want to spend your time. We have no desire to stay at BW. Maybe WLV at a later date, but we like the relaxed atmosphere of OKW. We haven't regretted it yet! Good luck with whatever you choose.

hi Demosthenes: have you toured any of the dvc units/resorts? that may be your best option to get a "feel" for each resort. one thing that has been stated on these boards is that the available pictures of the vwl don't really do justice to the actual units. we've stayed in the regular wl several times and enjoy it. we own 2 contracts at bwv and absolutely love the location. you may want to check out all 3 of the current wdw dvc resorts; the future bcv will be about the same size as the bwv/vwl units. as with vwl, there will not be any grand villas available.

Thnak you all for your suggestions. My wife and I are looking into purchasing a resale now based on many of your suggestions. You raised some good points; as much as I like the WL, nothing compares to the Epcot Resort area. Somehow, we always find ourselves drifting back that way. It would be foolish to buy at WLV if my heart was in the BW or BC.

Thanks again.

Being at the Boardwalk was the best thing we could have done......you will love that area. If you have time, wait for the BC, it's basically the same location and the Storm-a-long bay pool is awesome!!! All DVCer's can use it, but it would be nice to have it right there :)

Good luck!! :D
