I used to come to this board when planning our Disney vacations for help with budgeting tips for our vacations....

I don't see any tips....how to roast vegetables? What?

Is their a board for actual information?

General topics were polled and discussed in 2012 (see sticky) and most of us don’t mind them. This has been repeatedly asked over the years, the vast majority of posters prefers all budget subjects. If you save money in others areas you have more money for Disney. If you have a Budget Question about your trip, ask and people will answer.

The forum tends to get overrun with holiday shopping posts around this time of year. Hence the appearance that it is more of a general discussion board or a kinder, gentler version of the community board. However, the forum is still focused on saving for or on your Disney vacation.

Got a question? Post your thread. People will offer help. Otherwise, the theme parks, transportation, restaurant, resorts, and family boards will all offer content-specific solutions to your concerns. TPTB decided a long time ago to strip this board of its original intent and have left it unmoderated. Got a question about deals on a room? Yeah, the resorts board has a sub form for that. Wonder if the dining plans will work in your favor? The restaurant board can guide you to the best use of your credits. Need a discount code or rate for a rental car? Transportation. Who has the best price on tickets or need advice on bridging? Consult the TPAS. Discussions that used to take place here are now scattered around the disboards. Once the value resorts got refrigerators, and the disboards owners cracked down on Photopass shares and stroller swaps (not that I blame them), there was very little left for discussion here other than how to cut costs in your everyday life so that you have more money left to spend on Disney.

Sorry that this is not the forum that you remember. A lot of people who return to the boards after a hiatus are surprised as to what it has evolved into. But it is what it is. The regulars on this board like it the way it is. Just look at the sticky at the top of the first page. The regulars were overwhelmingly in favor of keeping the forum as is.

Not only have some things been eventually banned by admin, Disney itself has made MASSIVE changes to the way that a lot of things work! When I was researching my trip, I found that a good portion of the money saving blogs for Disney out there were terribly outdated!!!! The DIS actually has real-time visitors who are able to report on constant changes to policies.

IMHO Disney made a lot of price & policy changes from the early 2000's. Their pricing in the early part of the decade was designed to bring in as many visitors as possible when many were choosing to forego long-distance air travel. But then the economy recovered and a LOT of the budget-savvy travellers/mom blogs/whatever you want to call that demographic, they realized that for them, Budget Disney meant saving up and only going every 2-3 years. It was no longer a place where you could make crazy Secret Menu combos with your Dining Plan, or use a code word on a CM to get a freebie. No longer were certain activities offered, certain playgrounds and attractions no longer existed, and once-free opportunities were being scratched out by Pay-to-Play experiences. Construction removed quiet corners, nice seating areas, and fun places to take a photo and have some downtime.

a LOT more people are feeling priced-out by a few of Disney's more recent changes which naturally affects the Budget Board as many people are now choosing to turn Disney into an every 3-5 year vacation spot, renting their DVC points, explore other locations on the planet, etc.

TLDR; Disney has purposefully designed its pricing structure in such a way so that guests will no longer save money from Disney directly. What "saving" now means is more in line with the original premise of the word, that the actual hoarding of cash monies to pay for a Disney trip is now the sole responsibility of the parties travelling to Disney. ;)

Disney has made it so we no longer ask 'How to save money AT Disney' but instead ask 'How do we save to GET to Disney'. A few of the old standby's still apply, like bringing your own drinks in the park and eating breakfast in your room, but honestly Disney has changed so much there's really no way to save while there anymore (even birthday/anniversary buttons will only get you a Congratulations and a smile, anything else these days is extremely rare).

I am the OP of the roasting vegetables questions... I asked this question as .... I did not waste money or food by having them over done or not done enough that they ended up in the trash... which would have been like throwing money in the trash... so for me it was a question for the budget board...

Every dollar saved... on daily stuff .... is another dollar toward Disney stuff... just sayin...

Pretty much. I'm in group of people who would rather take fewer Disney trips, and not bother will bringing my own drinks or eating breakfast in your room. We are in the park the second it opens, and there until it closes. I'm looking to cram as much in, once I have paid admission.

There are no secrets on how to save money at WDW anymore. If you want to save money go when school is in session. That's about it. So we've moved onto other topics. Like how you can save money by making your own shampoo!

Thank you for the clarification...I don't really have a question, I just like to read, read, read as I'm planning. I just found myself having to scroll a lot to find other peoples questions and read the posts...
