On the boards people say that if you buy a picnic you still get in the same section that normal fast pass people get in. But that's not how the Disneyland website makes it sound. It says with a picnic purchase you get reserved spot in prime viewing area, first come first serve as to how close you are. Why would we buy the picnic if it was not a special area? Aside from not getting the fp ourselves...

I did the picnics this past Friday, and you're correct when you mention that you get a normal FP, not admittance into the Preferred Dining section. I didn't realize this until after I order the picnics, but I wasn't thoroughly put-off by it. Seeing how many people ordered the picnics, that number of people in the Preferred Dining area would be complete chaos I'm sure. But not having to worry about getting a FP earlier in the morning was worth it to me. The food was sub-par, but I'm still glad we did it. We were assigned the Blue section of the 8 pm showing, when I had originally signed up for the 9:15 pm showing. I was a little thrown off, as I really wanted the second show, but who cares!! We ended up having the most AMAZING spot. It was only after the show that I realized that we were actually in the Red section :lmao: But it was the best spot I've ever had for the show.

If you're worried about getting the FP in the morning when you'd rather not be so structured, get the picnics. If you really don't care, pass on the picnics and just get the FP in the morning instead.

Can you copy and paste the quote from Disney's site and provide a URL link? I think you may be misunderstaning what they are saying.

Disney has caused a lot of confusion in not being consistant in the use of the terms: Preferred vs. Reserved, Area vs. Location. Vewing Location and Area are the exact same section. It doesn't matter if it is Blue or Yellow. The only pass that gives you a unique viewing area is Preferred Dining ($40).

ALL World of Color Fastpasses gives you admission to a "Reserved" Section.

Picnic Fastpass ($16) / WCT Lunch Fastpass ($30) / Fastpass from GRR Fastpass Machine (FREE). are all exactly the same in function.

I'm taking the liberty because I was confused by this at one point also. It DOES sound like you get a reserved spot to watch the show.

World of Color Picnic Meal with Reserved Viewing

When you pre-order picnics online for either the first or second showing of World of Color, you will receive a ticket that secures your spot in the World of Color Reserved Viewing section located in Paradise Park. Picnic meals may be purchased at Disneyland Resort on the same day of the show and are subject to availability. You will also receive a reusable World of Color commemorative tote bag for every 4 picnic meals ordered!

Get details and order now from a menu that includes an assortment of options, including favorite foods for little ones.

This probably shouldn't be that confusing, but what I gather is this: Anything that is NOT the $40 meal does not get special seating other than just a guaranteed fast pass? So if you do get a picnic or whatever, you're still battling for a spot with the person who waited in the morning for a fast pass? If I want to make sure I get a great spot, spending $40 on the premium meal is the best option? :confused3

correct!

:thumbsup2 Cool! Is there a thread that details the best choice (Ariel's or the Trattoria) as far as quality of food, etc, for WOC? (I know there are a lot of threads on dining, etc, so just point me if they give such answers, thanks!)

With the picnic options, you get a FP like ticket for WOC. The difference between that and just getting it from the FP machines is that At the FP machins it'a coin toss as to what show and time you get, with the picnic's you are garaunteed a certain time, the time that you order your picnics for, for instance, if you order a picnic for the 8pm show of WOC then that is the show you will be getting. You can't reserve a time or section or show time with just getting the FP from the machine. And the picnic's either have you in the yellow section or Blue. You don't get a seating spot, it's only standing. I have never had any problems with getting a good spot, yes it's true blue and yellow are better then red, but that is the chance you take when you do just the FP from the machine.

Yes, but even with the preferred dining you aren't guaranteed a good spot. You just have a different (and supposedly less crowded) area to battle a spot in. The preferred dining area is a good location (in the center) but if you're not at the railing and you have tall people in front of you won't have a good view. So be ready for a battle in that area too.

NO... Not a coin toss......
They are always distributed in the order of Blue, Yellow, Red.

FastPass Distribution Information:

They have one show Monday - Thurs,
Two shows Fri, Sat, & Sun.

The Fastpasses run out at about the time shown.
1st show Everyday
9:00 - 9:50 = Blue
9:50 - 10:15 = Yellow
10:15 - 11:00 or later = Red

2nd Show Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
Starting at 11:00am to 1:00pm in the same order:
Ask a Cast member and they will tell you when (after) they change.
They do not know this ahead of time, as there are too many variables.

/\ Although, we have arrived at 3pm on various days and received yellow for the second show. So while those times area gauge, I would caution that it depends completely on how many people are hitting htat machine prior to you approaching it.

Oh no! The last time I read about the picnics, the reusable bags were being given out for every 2 tickets purchased. That bag was the only reason my boyfriend and I were going to do the picnics. Does anyone know if the bag can be purchased elsewhere or added on for a small fee to the picnics if you only order 2?

That is why I said it was a coin toss-at least to me in my mind it is, even though they have a schedule, you really don't know how many people were before you hitting the FP machine for WOC tickets... Saturday at 4pm, the tickets for Red were out, they were not issuing anymore tickets that day for any other shows, they had a 10:15 pm show and you did not need a FP for it just show up, and the CM told me that a mass amount of people had breezed in through to get the Fp's for WOC. And I knew this because at 3pm I was going to get one for the 9:15pm show, but when I came back at 4pm it was to late.and the CM had told me at 3pm that if 1k people get FP's they will not have anymore by 4pm..
