We are staying in two adjoining rooms at ASSp for 7 nights. We are DVC owners, but are staying at ASSp with two other families. Then, we are going to a 2 bedroom at OKW for 5 nights. Anyway, my kids always complain about sharing a bed, so I bought a camping cot for $35 at Walmart yesterday. I figure no one has to share a bed now, except for DH and I, in either place we stay. My kids are looking forward to the food court, but I don't want our expenses to skyrocket, so I'm bringing breakfast foods to keep in the room. I bought a two piece, wide slot toaster for $11, for bagels or toast. I've only brought a single cup coffee maker before, but I felt pretty proud of myself for the toaster thought. Anyone else ever done this?

I use to always bring a toaster, I take meds in the middle of night and I need to have a toast with them. I did not this past trip last and have been sick ever since. I know that they frown on it. but I can get a medical note if need be. BC tryed to get me one, but failed. I will bring one in Sept.

as for the cot..........humm,

hope you're wearing your flame retardant suit 'cause this can be a hot topic...

just for informational purposes, before you lug a toaster to wdw w/you, please know that the food court has toasters available for guest use... if you bring your own loaf of bread, you can get jelly, butter, pb, etc to top it with... or you can buy bread by the slice along w/bagels, rolls, english muffins, etc...

as far as the cot goes, be prepared for close quarters! i'm not even sure where you'd put a cot in a value room, although if you don't have to open the door it may be okay... of course, that can lead to safety issues... a better suggestion, imo, would be to just bring a sleeping bag or two and have the kids rotate who sleeps in the sleeping bag... although the one on the floor might risk getting stepped on in the night!

good luck!

We had a pack n play in ASSP for our DD and we had enough room.If the cot is not much bigger than that you should be fine. I have also considered a toaster, Is it that bad to take one?It isn,t about the money(we have the dining plan) I just hate to fight the crowd in the food court early in the morning w/ 4 kids. :wave2:

I have always asked before bringing a toaster, have had no problems. I know there is issues with fire codes and extra bedding in rooms. I personally never hide it. If you want to do this....just call the resort and ask there policies

The cot is very thin; I think it will even fit between the double beds (we've stayed there before). It is the width of a sleeping bag, and very lightweight and easy to fold up---it's for camping. As far as the toaster, I've brought my little coffee maker every trip. I can't believe this would cause problem, since in the non-value resorts, there are microwaves, coffee makers, hair dryers, irons (villas), etc. I would always unplug it. I didn't know there were toasters to use in the food court, but having one in our room would definitely save on time, but I am trying to save on $ too. My kids are 17, 15, 13 and 11, and staying 12 nights at WDW, well ... I did get the DDE, luckily, but I am still waiting for the card to arrive. I'm sure it's mostly going to be myself and DH using the toaster. My kids are so excited for that food court again---they've missed it ever since we became DVC owners!

I am not sure what kind of cot you are bringing, but we stayed at ASMo a few years ago, and there is no room. Disney is totally against any electrical appliances in the room and it says so on the check-in papers. First, they create a fire hazard. Another poster mentioned that there are toasters in the food court. It seemed in your post that you were adament about bringing the toaster, however, I know that I would not want to jeopardize any ones safety for saving "a couple of bucks" on some breakfast food. Additionally, even if it is just toast, I personally would not want something "perfuming" my room if I was staying next door.

The difference in a guest bringing thier own toaster, coffee maker etc. and the appliances Disney provides is that Disney maintains a very high safety standard on the equipment. This is not necessarily the case with guests and what they might bring.

Why not just use the toaster and microwave in the food court? That is what they are there for.

This isn't a flame; I'm genuinely curious. Only toast will work? Not plain bread, or crackers?

Well, I was curious to see what people would say, that's why I posted this thread. I'm not out to cause any fires or fire hazards, or put anyone in jeopardy, including my family. If nothing else, I know the cot will come in handy in our OKW villa - more than enough room.

As far as the toaster, believe me, I don't need anything toasted bad enough to cause me to break the rules; I've never had one in the past, I just thought it was a great idea and I was pretty proud of myself. However, I don't see anything wrong with my little coffee maker that I have brought with me everywhere for years, and I will continue to use it.

As far as quality of equipment and appliances, the toaster and coffee maker are ones that I bought, which means I would use them at my own home, too. If I thought the quality was hazardous, I wouldn't use them ANYWHERE!

I have no problem using the food court facilities. I wasn't trying to sound like I'm setting up shop and abusing the accomodations. I just thought I had a couple of good ideas for my family.

I bring my own blow dryer, too. And if I had a travel iron, as I'm sure many people do, I'd bring that, too. I would think a travel iron is even more dangerous. So is smoking cigarettes. I don't smoke, but I sure fear that someone will be careless with their cigarettes, and there are smoking rooms.

good luck with that and have a great time!!! I completely understand your position...I like many others have a large family and a "few extra bucks" for a slice of toast at a food court is not worth it to me...however...we don't toast our bagels or poptarts and I doubt I will even be able to get my kids to eat breakfast with all the excitement!!! It is challenging for big families or fams with older kids to have to make due with two doubles!!! URRR NOT!! But sometimes the cost is just not doable for some....I would also consider a cot or sleeping bag and then move to your SPACIOUS digs the next night :goodvibes have fun

Here's the problem with a toaster in the room...have you ever smelled burnt toast?

That smell will permeate through every room around you. If someone burned toast in a room adjacent to me, I'd probably call the fire department just to embarress the heck out of them for being so freaking inconsiderate when there's a toaster available for public use in the food court. My guess is that even if the resort management didn't do anything about it, the fire department would remove the appliance from your room.

As far as the cot goes, I think you're going to be beyond tight. Disney seems to care more about occupancy than who is sleeping where.

we went in April and took our two grandkids.....boy 13 and girl 15.....The boy slept on a blow up mattress and we had AMPLE room.....we were in the AS SPorts....Ask housekeeping to remove the little table and two chairs...Also asked for extra blanket and pillow.....we brought twin fitted sheet and top sheet and had no problems at all.
NOW on the toaster .......They did say that having something like this in the room could pose a fire hazard......The Food court had toasters and also the big things for bagels and microwaves for popcorn and other food items.....

Are you freaking KIDDING ME?? You'd actually waste the resources of the Fire Department for your own twisted edification? Unbelievable. Talk about inconsiderate!

ithink you could do the cot and still have room. after all you all will just sleep then take it up right?????????but please...........USE THE TOASTER or MICRO at the food courts. thats whatthey are there for. i am one that would really WORRY about a fire, or anything that would sound the FIRE ALARMS.....its not as bad as you think at the food court. it is crowded, we go in AUGUST and you talk about CROWDS at the foodcourt, but actually we always end up EATING and I never lose WEIGHT.......haha . i dont think anyone would starve............haha just joking................also someone on another thread mentioned BOILED EGGS in the ROOM...........could you even IMAGINE......................YECK.......i certainely wouldnt want them next to us on vacation.................please go, use the food courts and have a GREAT SUPER TIME............................

If I smelled something burning, I'd call the fire department--especially in a hotel situation where a fire can quickly spread and KILL PEOPLE. You don't know if there's more to it than the toast. I guess I should have worded that differently to say this.

Anne

I think you people are over the top with the 'using a toaster equates to killing people' lines. My goodness, she said she planned to be careful with it, didn't she? Now, she has been made aware of the potential hazards... I agree with whoever said that a curling iron would be much more dangerous and no one seems to have a problem with that. I do agree that the burnt toast smell would not make my stay a pleasant one....but neither to a lot of other 'smells'.

Anyway, my point is this: if you want to discourage the OP from using the toaster, do so....but don't equate her to an arsonist just because she needs to save money on this trip.

And as far as the cot. We are going down in January and will spend part of our trip at POP and we are definately bringing an air mattress. My 14 year old 160 pound son can't share a bed with anybody! He makes it fine, the other person suffers greatly! He is all over the place all night. So he is on the air mattress! Just put it down at night and stand in up next to the wall during the day. He went down with his class last December and slept on the floor the entire time so this should be real comfort to him!
