We have had it for a year and it worked fairly well until Tuesday!
We have 4 receivers and the one in our bedroom and the living room stopped working on Tues. evening and DH called and they said they were working on the problem. Wednesday they still were not working so he was on the phone for a long time and they said that RCA receivers were having problems when they tried to download new software and they would ship new (refurbished) ones out to us. We got them on Friday and DH was on the phone with them to get them programmed etc. for over two hours. Everything worked fine. DS and I got home from the football game and after he watched tv in the living room for an hour it stopped working. Now they need to send another one for that room and won't send a brand new one unless we pay for it. So far the one in our room is still working and so are the other 2. I don't think we should have to pay for a new one when they are the ones who messed them up when downloading and we bought the original ones. We all have to watch in our bedrooms until the "new" one arrives. If I didn't hate Comcast so much and I like the NFL package alot, I would switch.

I have comcast (I too hate comcast) have been thinking about switching to Direct TV because of the package deal I can get. Basically I can get up to 4 receivers and installation for nothing? and pay $39.99??? I am like  WHAT?

So, is this not a good deal?

Sorry you are not happy with Directv. If it makes you feel better, I spent two hours on the phone with them this morning.

Something tells me that no matter WHO you get your TV through, they are no better than anyone else.

Comcast, DirectTV, you name it, we've had it. There is no one that is any better. Sure enough as soon as you change, they will make you regret it. My dad changed to Comcast because it was cheaper than his DirectTV package now, 3 months later Comcast has raised it's prices to all customers and now he's stuck with it. We have Comcast currently but have had sattelite in the past. Let's face it, they are all evil and out to get us (or at least our money!)

I hate DirecTV because when we did have them, they tried to charge us over $100 for movies they said that we watched. They can track which TV it was that watched the movies. Turned out that it was my TV upstairs in the room that I only use for TV and my computer. They said that the movies were watched at 4:00 a.m. and some other ridiculous hours. Sorry but I don't think so. There is no one up at that time and definately no on upstairs in that room (it's not a bedroom). After many phone calls and bills received they finally dropped the charges and we dropped them!

I pay $67 a month and don't get much! I just think that it is a racket and they KNOW that people are adicted to TV and they KNOW that people will pay whatever it takes to have it, so they just keep racking up the price!

Really.........I have been having it out with these bozo's for the last two days. Someone has really dropped the ball at DTV. I am so close to going back to cable.................. My 2 cents worth

I have had direct tv for three months now, we did not pay for any equipment and we got four receivers. Did I tell you that in less than three months we have had one of the receivers replaced TWICE and gone through THREE access cards for that receivers because they thought that was bad? They sent me a refurbished receiver to replace the one broken, but the one they sent was also broken and they couldn't figure out until the technician came out to my house , a 21 year old that I swear did not have a clue.
Everything he did I knew how to do and I had done before, but at least he left me a new receiver. Now the remote for that receiver quits working every now and then , it will not switch channels ( not the batteries either ) all I have to do is reset the receiver. Nice!!! If it wasn't because I absolutely hate cable here....

We have Comcast and DirecTv, like them both, LOL.

Great reception......pretty good programming. But....there is only so much one can take, you could be the next one that DTV sticks it to.

So I am going to go out on a limb here and ASSUME that they are all um, crooks?

We had Dish Network and loved it until this spring...lots of trees filled in where the dish was pointed. Our front yard looked like Ivan had gone through, we kept cutting down trees. We really had no option of moving the dish, we live in the middle of the woods. Finally gave up and, defeated, went back to Adelphia cable, which is the WORST!!! Cable guy came to install digital cable, was here three hours and left us with NO picture on our TVs and our Cable modem non-functioning. Said we had to make another appointment. Fortunately, DH is a genius and got it all working.

We will be keeping it and have enjoyed it up until this past week. We like the football, baseball and hockey packages and travel channel. I know you can't get the football or travel channel on cable. We've had 2 remotes replaced with no problems and hopefully the next receiver will work.

IMHO..... ok

We've had DirectTV for about 2 years. It has been great, no problems. Lost the signal twice, each time for about 1 minute or less due to a thunderstorm. This past June we finally got local channels. We have lost the signal several times since then. We think the installer who put on the new dish for the locals didn't do something just right. But overall we are very pleased with both the programming, picture on the tv, and the service.

Edited to add: I can now say I think I'm getting my fill of Law & Order. :D

We've had Dish Network for about 2 years now and really love it. No problems at all. Every once in a while before a big rain or storm comes through we lose the signal for a minute or so, but that's it. I'd NEVER go back to Comcast cable.

Panther, I could be wrong, but I think the $39.99 per month is for one TV only and doesn't include tax.

When I read their fine print, I took it that each receiver (that is, each TV) is something like $6.00 per month additional.

I attempted to get DirecTV twice, but had a lot of trouble--two different installation companies too. When I contacted DTV themselves to let them know what I was going through trying to become their customer, they were zero help.

Now we have digital cable. I pay around $75 a month for two TVs with the digital receiver (extra channels) and a third TV without.

This is for what my cable company calls the Silver package. I get about 14 HBO channels, 10 Starz, and 3 Encores. Also, get the Travel Channel and a variety of local channels.

Im pretty happy with comcast except when my bill comes in im up to $112 a month now for digital, cable internet and no premium movie channels.Ive been thinking of switching to direct tv but dont want to have both comcast for internet and direct tv for cable. How is direct tv in storms and such, does it ever go out on you?
