Here is what happened:

About one week ago, went to Word, was told by my computer "Resources Dangerously Low" blah, blah, blah. The computer basically froze. DH and the kids went through and deleted all kinds of stuff, i.e Nintendo games, Music Match songs, unused documents, etc. Everything worked fine....until.....

Yesterday....I went on Word, wrote a letter, printed it out, didn't save anything. Everything worked fine on Word. Then I came to the DIS, posted a few replies, sent an e-mail, and logged off. About thirty minutes later, I went back to Word, and guess what....."Resourses are Dangerously Low!"

DH tried all kinds of things last night and this morning. He used the repair and recovery disk, went through to see if anything else can be deleted, etc. Word still doesn't work, but everything else is fine!

Of course, I have papers that are due for finals week, and my school is an hour away if I want to go use the computers there.

Any suggestions???? Should we pack the thing up and take it to a repair shop? Or should I toss it out the window? ;)

Do you turn off your computer from time to time? If not try rebooting. Another thing is close evrything you can. These 2 things might help.

This message always comes up for two things. 1 is memory, the other is your Processor

First thing you want to do is reboot your machine.

If it's on for a long time, the memory has a tendency to keep stuff in it's buffers and rebooting clears it out.

Second of all deleting some of those games should help some but it only depends on the settings.

There is another place your computer uses memory and it's on your hard drive. This is called virtual memory. When your hard drive starts to get full, your computer will begin to slow down and you will see this error and a lot of other error messages show up.

To access this, you want to right click on My Computer and click on Properties.

If you have Windows 95, 98, or ME:

Click on the performance tab and then click on Virual Memory. Select manually enter and increase the size of virtual memory.

If you have NT, 2000, or XP:

Click on the Advanced tab and then performance options. Click on the change button for Virtual Memory and increase it there.

If it still doesn't work, you may want to purcahse more memory (it is the cheapest upgrade) or may look into purchasing a new computer.

Hope this helps.

Thank you both for your suggestions! I am so computer illiterate, but you put wrote the suggestions in ways I can understand it! :):):)

The strangest thing is, is that Word worked fine and an hour later, after not saving or downloading anything, the message came up and it wouldn't work. And of course, it is bad timing!

I'll let you know what happens,
Karen

It also wouldn't hurt to clean out your temp files and recycle bin.

Screen savers hog a lot more resources than most people realize. Disable yours if you're having problems. Even the ones that come standard with Windows use up a lot of memory. Reboot after you've disabled it.

If this is happening only in word there is a specific problem, a damaged normal.dot template, that can cause this exact error message.
For more information and for the fix to the problem follow this link!
