Hi Folks - just got back tonight! Was a little nervous boarding the plane, but once airbound, didn't think twice! C3000 flights were uneventful and on time (even arrived 1/2 hour early tonight). Checkin at Pearson and Orlando was very quick. The line up to get through security in Orlando was long, but moved quickly. Weather was great, food prices were outrageous (for a Canadian!), but we had a great time. I didn't feel nervous or tense while at WDW. They are still checking all bags on way into parks. I"ll post more on the other boards about meals and resorts, but wanted to let my fellow Canadians know I'm back and that you shouldn't cancel your plans....go for it...I really needed the break and it was worth it! Jo

It's great to get reassurance from a fellow Canadian. Did you worry about being out of Canada while you were there?

Did WDW still seem magical and an escape from our day to day life?

I know I need my upcoming trip also to get recharged so our plans are still on track for Dec. Were Americans preoccupied with everything that is going on?

Just trying to get a feel for what to expect this time.

Welcome back. I am so glad you had a wonderful time. We really do need to get on with our lives and what better place is there to recharge than WDW?:)

Dumbo5, no I really did not worry about being out of Canada during that time. I knew, if we had to, we would rent a car and drive the 24 hours home. People spoke about the tragedy, but not a lot. When workers spoke about low attendance, they really didn't continue the conversation as to why...it was just understood. We tuned into CNN a couple of times a day just to catch up, but since WDW parks don't have newspapers for sale, it just didn't seem to absorb people during their times at the parks. One interesting thing happened that I thought Disney should take out, is around 10:45 each day in Magic Kingdom, there are some very loud, rapid bangs, kind of like machine gun fire, but really loud. Some folks just stopped in their tracks and looked around to see if it was something more than just a sound effect. If you were really jittery, I think you might be hitting the ground for cover! I think maybe the sound comes from the Lion King show? Disney was sure an escape, but truly, it wasn't as magical as previous, carefree visits, but I think that's just a fact of life right now. Take Care, Jo

Welcome back Jo-Anne
It was sad to hear that this trip wasn't as "magical" as previous trips. I understand that there is always that 'something' in the back of your mind. Hopefully, things will get back to near normal. We're going in January and I'm hoping our trip will be a mental release as well as some quality time spent with our children.
Sounds like you still had a good time. Maybe a trip report?

Welcome home Jo-Anne!:) I'm sure you had a "great escape" from the problems that are going on and I wish we could get away too but alas not this year. This actually woould be an ideal time to go to the parks as the crowds are at a minimum. Glad you had a nice time and again welcome back.

Welcome Back Jo-Anne, sounds like you had a pretty good time even though it wasn't as magical as previous vacations. Glad you are back home safe & sound!

Where did you stay at WDW?

Mickey Canada - we stayed at ASMu for 3 days and BWV for 2 days.
