Trail's End - 02/14/2004

I was looking forward to this place due to the price for a buffet. But, I was left a little disappointed. I guess I expected more, but I did not have a bad meal. Number one what is with taking a bus every where on Fort Wilderness property. I found that a little strange. I was surprised of the inner-bus route to get every one to their campsites. So that took us around ten minutes to figure that out.

We did not have a PS and had no wait at 6:00pm for dinner. We did enjoy the chicken, pork, mac + cheese, shrimp, and the pizza. Our waitor was beyond disney friendly. Really nice and helpful waitor. Just was one of those meals that did'nt really stick out. Seven out of Ten and I probably would not be back to soon.

The Damage:

2 Adult Dinners - 31.98
TAX - 2.08
AMOUNT DUE - 34.06

Any Questions?

Thanks for the review. We are thinking of trying this in May the night before my DH's triathlon.

Do you happen to know if they had any kind of pasta?

Thanks again. :D

I don't recall any pasta except Mac and Cheese. I could be wrong, I'm blanking out after writing these reviews. Hope this helps

Never really fancied eating there ~ Think the journey to get there is a bit much ~ Thanx for sharing.

We all adored the chicken....we also had a super waiter! He told us that the chicken is the same that is served at the HDDR. Plus, since we travel with6-7 people, it is a bargain!

Mike-

We're headed to Disney next month and we're thinking about eating at Trails End. Since you've been there quite recently, I appreciate your viewpoint. And I have some questions for you.

How do you get to Trails End? If I undertsood your post correctly, you have to park and ride a bus to the restaurant. Is that correct? Where do you drive to?

Finally, if someone wanted to eat in FW but does not want to go to HDD, would you recommend Trails End?

Thanks for your input.

Where do you drive to?

When your driving towards Fort Wilderness from MK it will be on the left side. At first you will see a check-in side with a security booth. Don't bother pulling in there because you will just be told to pull a u turn back out to the street, make a left and pull in the next Fort Wilderness driveway. This is where you will park.

That is correct, you need to take a wdw bus from the parking lot. I found this to be a little strange and confusing at first. I can't remember if you get on the bus that says settlement or pioneer (or somthing like that). I want to say the settlement bus is what will take you to trails end and Hoop De Doo (I could be wrong, someone can help me out, I'm sure). Then you will have to take another bus back to the parking lot. You will get on a bus just like one you would take from your resort to one of the parks. This bus also drops people off at their campsites.

Finally, if someone wanted to eat in FW but does not want to go to HDD, would you recommend Trails End?

Oh yeah, that was mainly the reason why I picked this place. Everyone on these boards were saying this was great cheap alternative to Hoop De Doo with the same food. They were right, THANKS.

A much easier way to get there is to take the boat from the Magic Kingdom. It's just a short walk from the boat dock. That's how we always get to the Hoop Dee Doo, and it's right next door to Trails End.

We usually zip over after a morning at MK. It's short boat ride over. This place is simple food for a great price. One of my GS favorite places to eat. Not a big menu, but it does change daily (except chicken/mac-cheese). A nice salad bar. We love it and the best bargain on Disney property. It's no where near the buffets you find at the theme parks and CR, but no where near the price either.

Thank you Mike and the others for your responses. Based on your recommendations I think we're definitely going to give it a try. We plan on spending some time in Ft. Wilderness one day and don't really want to spend the money on HDD. I appreciate the input from everyone.

Does anyone know much about Donald's Breakfastasorus in AK? We have a PS there b/c my daughter really likes Donald Duck. We've never been and are curious what to expect.

Yeah! This was the response I was hoping for. We're planning on breaking up a long MK day with a leisurely ride over to Trail's End for lunch. Here's a qestion -- do they serve beer there? I know DH will be on his last nerve chasing the kids around, so I know he'd really appreciate a cold beer at lunch!

I'm sure you can get beer since the lounge and restraurant are located in the same building...but not positive since we've not done it. We do, often see folks coming from the lounge into the restraurant.

I can tell you that the breakfast is one of the best deal's on Disney property. We try and fit it in each and every trip. Have never done dinner there but breakfast is fabulous, especially if you are really big breakfast eaters. They have eggs, sausage, bacon, waffles, fruit, muffins, biscuits, french toast, breakfast pizza and many other items. We like taking the boat from Wilderness Lodge.

Yes, you can get beer. Do you like to drink out of mason jars?

I found this buffet to be pretty low in quality of food and cleanliness. The serving dishes were unkempt and the floor was messy with spilled food.

The drive and park and take a bus to the restaurant was not convenient at all. The boat from the MK would have been a better idea.

It may be less expensive than many other places to eat on WDW property, but sometimes it really is true. You get what you pay for.
