I'm actually excited to stay...

At Saratoga!

I have a last minute summer trip lined up for Saratoga Springs and I'm actually looking forward to the Downtown Disney area. Even online it just looks like such a pretty resort. Can't wait to walk around the grounds in the mornings, check out the pools!

Now at first I was pretty concerned with all the reviews I see listed on these boards. Yes, it has open hallways (Doesn't bother me). Yes, Its looks Large. Okay..so it does look like an apartment complex. But - Hey It looks like a nice one at least!

I think if I really end up enjoying SSR I think I may have to find myself another new DVC contract:rotfl: With pricing in the 50's I might just need to pickup an extra 100 points.

I just felt like posting because it seems like of people(including myself) have posted/wondered about all the negative reviews that they see. It did get me down about staying there at first. Just try to find the positives and enjoy yourself. Don't go in feeling down and worrying about what others have said about the resort.

Yes, SSR gets bashed a lot. As for the size and set up of the resort, it is more like a typical golf resort than an apartment complex to me. Golf resorts are not bunched together but spread throughout the course. Grandstand is a great example of this.

The different area's of SSR just give such a different feel from each other. Grandstand = Golf, Congress Park = DTD views/access, Springs = Spa, Pool, Restaurants, Paddocks = park-like area with the bridge across the water, etc...and now has a theme'd pool, etc, Carousel has been the biggest issue, but honestly it is just peaceful and easy in/out access. And you also have THV's with their own unique experience.

Each resort has a different feel to it and depending on personal preferences, some resorts seem to be more popular than others. We don't own at SSR but we seem to find ourselves staying here due to booking some of our trips only a few months out.

We enjoy the resort and since it is almost always available, we don't see any reason to buy points here.

:earsboy: Bill

We feel the same. I look at it this way. Of all the DVC resorts, it is the one I "love" the least. It is still a nice resort. However, that being said, we do not have much issue using our points here as it ALWAYS has availability at last minute. I booked in March--during Spring Break---a mere 5 days ahead of time and got the room and dates I wanted. I also got SSR about 4 weeks prior to booking in early Aug 2010. And again.....about 4 weeks out for the second week in Dec 2009.
I just booked 2 days ago for a stay Aug 20-25. I had asked for all available DVC studios and MS came back with "SSR is all that is left" (as if they were very accustomed to saying that) so I booked ! I was hoping for AKV because that is where the rest of the family is staying and I always consider AKV a very large resort as well (thinking some rooms should be available but they rarely are). Completely booked for studios which is all I as looking for. I am booking the room for my college age son and his gf. I am sure they will be thrilled with staying at SSR. And I am thrilled that it is always the dependable DVC with availability for our last minute bookings
