I'm a wander-er!

Sorry you are having a bad day Lovetoscrap. I hope it gets better for you.

I haven't done the first thing today that I needed to because DH is off. He just messes me up. :rotfl2: I did plant some flowers so that is one thing I guess. Well, off to car pool. :car: So happy school is out tomorrow!!:cool1:

Just noticed you are from Alabama. My DH just applied for a job in Birmingham! Looks a lot warmer than here!:rotfl:

Just wandering through my e-mail notifications and thought I'd say :yay: and happy hump day. . .this week is going by rather quickly for me.

Anyone run across any good threads lately? I have to admit, I haven't been perusing much this week. :rolleyes1

What does everyone have planned for the weekend? Our high school football team is in the state play-offs. The first regional game is Friday and we are hoping for a win. :woohoo: Both my kids will be home from school this weekend which always makes for a hectic home, but it will be good to hang with them for the weekend. Then there is Saturday college football. . .other than that, not much going on here.

I always keep an extra eye on the budget board at this time of year. Some people are there can find really good deals and will share them. So if you are Christmas shopping that is a good board to check out!

This weekend we are headed to the play at the high school that my DD scored one of the lead roles in. Trying not to brag but we are very proud of her. She is in the 8th grade so she went up against 7th-12th graders.:banana::banana::banana:

After that we are building some lockers off of Ana White's website. THe kids winter gear is out of control. Any color suggestions to paint it?? I stink at picking nice colors.:headache:

Thanks all for the well wishes. Wednesday has been much kinder to me than Tuesday was. :goodvibes

I have been on Cruise Critic keeping up with the Carnival Ship problem. I am a total rubbernecker for a good news story. :rotfl: I also have this absolute love of cruising that is NOT shared by my husband and if I had my choice I would go at least once a year. Instead I have only been twice, and the first one was sort of a cruise from hell-- but nowhere near what the Carnival people are going through! I am going to just go with my children or sister in the future.

Congratulations to your DD!!! :woohoo:

I need to start hitting the Budget Board. Haven't actually been wandering much lately. Need to figure out what the good deals are. They sometimes get me in trouble though!

What colors are the room where the lockers are going? Or is it going in a garage?

Congratulations to your DD!!! :woohoo:

The lockers wil go in our arctic entry. We got the plans from Ana White. My DH picked the color today from Lowe's Eddie Bauer collection. I will post pics after he finishes it this weekend.

My DD had her first performance today for the high school and she was so stoked afterwards!:yay:

We went looking for pillow pets today. Can you believe they are so popular:laughing: My oldest wants the moose. No luck finding that one. But we did get the dolphin and penguin.

Just making sure natenapril doesn't kill this again! ;)

Tired and off to bed. Spent all day watching the Carnival Splendor stuff and then had a meeting. Wanted to DIS tonight but DH took my computer to do some "quick" maintenance. Apparently my idea of quick and his idea of quick are two very different things! :headache:

Hey!! Good luck on the Birmingham job., and yes from where you are, this will be a WHOLE lot warmer. :lmao: I grew up in B'ham and I loved it. We have moved several times to different states, but found our home in Alabama again. :rotfl2: We are about an hour south of Birmingham, between B'ham & Auburn. I love to shop there though so that's where I do most of my Christmas shopping. Love the Riverchase Galleria & the Summit.

When will you find out about the job? Here is to good luck!!:wizard: Now is a great time to move with the interest rates so low. ;)

I got some good news today!!!!! We got our home appraisal back in today and it was way better that I expected. :cool1: This refi should wrap up soon and we will start saving some money. :woohoo: I am so excited to be knocking off several years and lowering the interest rate at the same time.

The funny this is, we have talked about this for the past few years and now that DH is up for a promotion, we are doing it. The way I look at it is that by doing this, he will either get a job for more money and we move, or we stay here and save money. Either way we win, right?:rotfl2: I am justifying these closing costs.

I can totally relate to this!! What is with men doing this stuff anyway?

Very cool! I always loved that feeling - before and after a show.

Maybe you can explore some community theater options for her, now that she's hooked!

Yeah, same here... real quick turns into quite awhile, then the almost-dones set in. I eventually give up.

We refinanced earlier this year. Ours had a good return on it as well since we had done several updates over the past 5 years. We did lose some value overall, but it was only a couple thousand... we were expecting a $7-10K drop due to our housing market being so bad around here (county unemployment is 13%).

Hopefully the market will turn in our favor, and being what we've done to the house, maybe even sell our house for a small profit. DH paid WAY too much for the house (we hadn't met at the time he bought the house, otherwise there's NO WAY I would have let him make that move...) and had to replace, well, pretty much everything within the first 3 years of ownership. :sad2:

Congrats on the great news!

Happy Friday!

I got an email yesterday that my absolute favorite Starbucks Peppermint Mocha Coffee is now available in stores as. . . ICE CREAM! :woohoo::dance3::yay: Which begs the question, does this make it perfectly acceptable to have ice cream first thing in the morning? :confused3

We had elections last night for a board I am on and unfortunately, despite my best effort, I was reelected. :headache: I guess with 8 spots open and 8 people on the ballot I should have known ;). But I was able to take a demotion and be in lesser position. I was Secretary but asked that they let me take over the Asst Secretary/Treasurer spot--which is sort of like being first runner up in the Miss America pageant. So now I have zero responsibility except to make sure that the Secretary and Treasurer remain very healthy and can fulfill their duties at all times!

That is great news!

I am ashamed to admit that I am one of those hopeless women that has absolutely no idea about our finances.:confused3 I have no idea about anything to do with the house other than cleaning and decorating. DH has tried to explain things to me and get me involved but my eyes glaze over and my brain starts to threaten to bleed out my ears.:scared: He did put me in charge of paying all the bills one time so I could know what was going on, but when we started getting late charges and notices they were going to shut things off he decided he had better just do it.:rolleyes1

I guess I should go and do what I do to contribute-- wash some dishes, start some laundry :laundy: and figure out something for dinner that doesn't involve a phone and coupons.:upsidedow

(but in reality I will still be here on the DIS for a few more hours! :ssst: )

Per Bill Cosby and possibly Jim Gaffigan... I would say ::yes::

Thanks! We find out probably in December. He also put in for 3 other states to transfer too so we shall see. We need to get back to the east coast:)

COngrats on the refinance and saving money! Just in time for Christmas shopping!!!

We might! She has said though that she's ready for volleyball to start :)

Have you tried the salted caramel hot chocolate from Starbucks yet? YUMMY

I really should be cleaning too but ohwell:rotfl2:

DH took my computer to do some "quick" maintenance. Apparently my idea of quick and his idea of quick are two very different things! :headache:

It ends up this time he spent on "quick maintenance" ended up very well for me. He was so fed up with my laptop last night that he brought me home an early birthday gift today-- a new laptop!!! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

He is getting it set up for me now. I am not one to embrace change and this will be totally different but sounds like it will work so much better I will get over my changephobia.

Lucky duck! I so want a laptop of my very own. All we (my husband and I) have is a desktop. My daughter has a laptop and son has a desktop. . .I want my own laptop so I'm not chained to the kitchen desk. :thumbsup2

Can your DH talk to my DH? I would like a mac all for me!:rotfl:

My sweet DH got me one several years ago. I have had several foot surgeries and have spent a lot of time confined to the couch with my foot elevated. Originally he actually just moved the desktop to the coffee table for me but that had a lot of problems. The laptop has been a godsend. I have spent a lot of time with that being my only connection to the outside world. I still have a desktop but really don't use it. He decided that after 4 years of sometimes 12 hour a day use it was probably time for a new laptop. I think the desktop may go to the kids.

He actually tried to convince me to get a Mac, but I hate, hate, hate change. When he went to get this yesterday he said he looked at the Macs and they were two and half times more expensive than the top of the line PC he got me, so he decided it was a good thing that I don't like change! :rotfl:

Make your Christmas list and check the store ads! He got this on a Black Friday type deal at Best Buy yesterday. A lot of the stores are doing really good sales before BF this year. Guess we should all wander over to the Budget Board.

You both have great husbands. My Dh bought me a lap top after I had back surgery. It was a God send,, it helped me stay in touch with the world. I can't think of life without it. Now I make new friends almost every day visiting different forums.

What sweet spouses! DH did the same for me a few years back. I was on horizontal bedrest with my son (I was allowed up to use the restroom and a 10 minute shower - no more). TV got boring quick so we got a laptop to watch movies since I wasn't allowed up!

I love reading warm-fuzzy stories like these!

Shopping, :headache: -- I have started, but have nothing for our kids yet. I have asked for a wish list, but you know college students--procrastinators! Over the past few years I have been able to get everything done on Black Friday--hoping to pull that rabbit out of the hat this year. I can't shop on Saturday (27th)--that is the Michigan v Ohio State game and with some luck our high school state title play-off.
