Not really happy with the photo but this is the one that is the best of the bunch.......

I cant believe I didnt get a shot in front of the castle...but at least I managed to get everyone to actually wear them right? lol!!!

So, are you the one that DIDN'T use soda ash?

I really tend to like the lighter colors, and if I can just get that from not using soda ash, it seems like an easy way out for me! I'm thinking of trying some and want to go with light blue, light green and light gray for mine so I'm wondering if I need to buy THOSE actual colors or if I just need to buy blue, green and gray and NOT use soda ash. I may do some later that I'd like to have darker, but I want to do one that looks faded out. I've done burnout style bleaching in the past and would love to try it with a black tank top as well! I guess I would try the same technique?

lol...no I did not use the soda ash. I think the dye I bought did not call for it. Good luck...I had more fun making them than wearing them. (but then again I underestimated my hubby and my sizes :()

They all look great! Nice work:thumbsup2

I think it's fun making these for trips and it builds the excitement
:cheer2:

You need to wrap the bands tight, tight, tight.

could my rubber bans be too big- I am using the kind off a rubber band ball. What size rubber bands?

I use dental floss to stitch the Mickey, then wrap the extra floss around the head part tightly, then rubberband over that. I use the "ball" rubber bands, too, 3 or 4 for the head, then 2-3 for the rest of the shirt. After it is banded, soak it in the soda ash solution for 30-60 minutes, then spin it out in the washer (do NOT rinse, only spin). While it's still damp, apply the dye to each banded segment, making sure the dye runs through the segment, but not so much that it flows into the next. I also start with the head, then quickly apply the next color to keep any overflow from "grabbing" the fibers. It is really best if you work over a cookie cooling rack or a cat litter tray with newspaper (or, better yet, absorbent bed pads) underneath. That way, you can see if the dye has made it through the segment when it just starts to drip.

I really admire all of you who are talented enough to make your own tie dye Mickey shirts. I know I could never do it (my friends laughed at me when I even mentioned giving it a try)...so I was on a mission to buy them online.

I found "The Tie Dye Girl" on etsy dot com. She can make anything you want - my kids can't wait for theirs to arrive. We are cruising in 2 weeks and will wear them the first day.

I'll post photos when we have them.

Happy Tie Dying!

I think you should try it yourself! Its really fun!

I am a wee bit afraid though for the etsy gal making something with a Disney logo on it for profit! yikes! I thought about selling my tie dye work but didn't because I don't own the rights to the Mickey head logo. But I am no expert, maybe its ok and I don't know it. :confused3

OK I started over and here is what I got

I was using thread and not floss- so I corrected that this time.

Coming in at page 16 to check this one out; how cool they are!! I am SO impressed with how clear the Mickey head is coming out! :D

My DSIL does a LOT of tie dyeing; maybe I'll try to get her to try one of these :)

Eveyones shirts are coming out great. Here are the one's I did for our trip this past September. We are contemplating a trip this fall and I was thinking of making more.
