I have read about wearing fannypacks, but also about bringing extra shoes, water bottles, ect. Are you also wearing a backpack, and if so can you get on rides with it. This is our first trip to WDW with my 3 boys on Sept. 10, I am lost. Please help. P.S. I made reservations at Sci-Fi, I hear it is bad, is it? Thank you for your help. :confused3

I can answer your question about the backpack. I have a small backpack that I wear and I take it on all of the rides. There is either a compartment that you can put the backpack in, or you can place it at your feet and just step on the strap (although if there is no compartment it usually means the backpack isn't going anywhere). I never have had a problem and I ride all of the thrill rides. As to the SciFi diner, I'm sorry I can't help you as I haven't eaten there - someone else will have to jump in. Enjoy your trip and ask away if you have any more questions. The people on these boards are a wealth of information just waiting to be tapped.

We just got back from our Disney trip and we did not eat at Sci fi, but I walked thru the restaurant one night(It was raining and my smalllest had a bathroom emergency and they let us use their restroom facilities). All of the food that I saw looked delicious. I left there wishing that I had made ADR for there. The onion rings made my mouth water. So I cannot attest to the flavor of the food but it looked GREAT>

The sci fi is good plus lots of fun, especially for boys!
Extra shoes - sometimes we bring sandals to change into for water rides and attach them to our bag with carbiners (I think I spelled that right).
But if you wear crocs, they dry out fast anyway.

Just remember you only want to bring as much as you want to lug around in the heat.

I'd pack pretty light the first day and see what you need.

Also, remember the first aid station in each park has bandaids for blisters! it comes in very handy.

We just got back from Disney 7/22 and were on the DDP. We realized after eating at a couple resturuants with not so great reviews (we decided to try them anyway) that we were SO glad we tried them for ourselves. So although I have not tried Sci Fi Dine in yet, I say give it a go!

Also, we brought 2 back packs into the parks (it was my wife and I on this trip) no fanny packs.

the PP reccomended packing light the first day and seeing what you need, a great idea! As an alternative I offer the suggestion of packing everything you think you will need and then once you realize what you don't need, you can ditch those things for the rest of the trip!

It's always a good idea to bring at least two pairs of (very broken-in) shoes for each person. That way if it rains, you have dry shoes the next day. Use moleskin and bodyglide to prevent blisters (I wouldn't use band-aids on blisters, as a previous poster mentioned - they slide around too much. Moleskin is much better.). But the first aid stations do have lots of stuff including aspirin, stuff to put on bug bites, etc.

I won't address the backpack issue on rides, since a PP has addressed it already.

Regarding water bottles, I found a great solution last trip. Instead of lugging around a heavy water bottle, I found out that you can just ask for a cup of ice water at any counter-service restaurant (you don't have to buy any food there to get water!). I stopped carrying a water bottle altogether after finding this out.

Regarding Sci-Fi, always take what you hear about a restaurant with a grain of salt. Everyone likes different things, and you'll read good and bad reviews of every restaurant at WDW. I say, if it sounds interesting to you, give it a try!

Keep reading these boards and dig into some of the posts - you'll find out tons of great advice.

I'm still not very good at this, I hope that everyone sees it. Thank you so much for answering my questions. This site is so great. My family doesn't share as much in my enthusiasm (they think that we are going to the local park and don't understand why I am so excited). Anyway thank you all!:)

Congrats on the trip! I'll be heading down on Sept 9th and can't wait. Like other people have said, some people are going to like restaurants and others won't for various reasons. I have personally eaten at Sci-Fi twice in the last year, once with kids and once without, and have had a blast. So much fun that I have it booked for this upcoming trip too! In the end, pick places that have menus that look good to you and sound fun. There's so many places to pick from you have to start somewhere. Out of the 6 table-service meals I'll be having on this trip, 3 are at places that I've never been to. Happy planning and hope you have a great time :tink:

PONCHOS buy them and take them with you, and extra socks. I can handle wet shoes but wet socks no way.

Sci - Fi is great & fun for all , food great. We ate here in 2004 we have ressies for 9/2 to eat there. I hear you about other family members. My husband could care less. I want to always have the latest news, so that we make the most of our trip. Good Luck

I would say if you have a child under 7 yrs. it's worth renting a stroller or bringing a folding one for your stuff and a place to sit a tired kid!!! It is true you can get free cups of water but it's nice to have some for when your in long lines........ We also bring a small spray bottle to cool off with.

:thumbsup2

We always carry flip-flaps (Brazilian "Havaianas") and rain-ponchos in our backpacks. They are very easy to carry and to change before a water ride. pirate:

I feel much better about the Sci-fi now. I'm not fussy anyway. As long as I don't have to cook or do the dishes it will be just fine.:thumbsup2

We ate there in '05. The food was good(not supurb, but you're in a theme park) and the atmosphere was awesome! My hub and I got the best picture in one of the cars-it's still in a frame in our living room! I really think it is what you make of it and the sci-fi was tons of fun!:cool1:
