Feb 27th – Sunday

Weather – Rainy – low 60’s :sad2:

Because it was a “rainy” day we skipped the original plan of going to Blizzard Beach (we wanted to have a “fun in the sun” day when we went to Blizzard Beach)

Again we “shopped” 192 Flea Market, Orlando Premium Outlet, Belz Outlet Mall, and Festival Bay. I couldn’t believe it; I couldn’t find anything worth buying! I usually go to the “character connection stores” and spend at least an hour or more checking every rack for nice T-shirts and other souvies, but today it was either “not my size” or “not my style” They seemed to have a lot of XXXL or XS but not much in between  .

My daughter was hoping to get a new digital camera with money she had received for Christmas and she had an idea of which ones she was considering. Every outlet we went to had one of the camera’s she was considering, but the prices were no “deal”. She decided to wait.

After the uneventful day, we headed back to our accommodation to get ready for our “Special meal” at Ohana’s. This was a PS that I had booked at the 90day window to our trip and having read a lot about it on these boards, was anxious to see what it was like ::yes:: .

After a rest period, we got ready in our “finest” (well the best we had in the suitcase)

Thank goodness the rain had finally subsided by the time we arrived at the Polynesian at 6:30pm (our PS was for 7:40pm). The first thing we noticed in the lobby area was the “excuse our mess” sign’s as the Wyland Gallery was under renovation. It had actually moved around the corner and was now located at the rear area of another store. My daughter and I had looked forward to looking in the Wyland Gallery, as on our last trip in 2004 we had both bought a nice silver necklace (they are imported from Hawaii) and we had decided we wanted to get some earrings and or ring to match.

When we found the store, we immediately headed for the jewelry counter. The assistant that was there was talking with another employee. She didn’t ask if she could help us, she gave us the impression that we were intruding on her conversation!!! :confused3
We looked at the lovely pieces and I found a pair of earrings that would match my necklace and my daughter asked about a couple of rings that she liked the look of. The assistant “sighed” and then opened the case to get the items out for us to look at closely.
My daughter decided that the rings cost more than she was willing to pay but I decided to purchase the earrings. Once again, the assistant made us feel like we were bothering her!!!! When the transaction was completed, we left and headed up to the restaurant, but we really didn’t feel like we had received “Disney hospitality” at that store.

Once we checked in at the podium for our reservation we were given a pager. We had barely sat down when the pager went off. We were taken to our table, which happened to be at the edge of the dinning area, next to a large wooden pathway. We could see the “Castle” in the distance lighted for the evening (Beautiful sight!!!) :cloud9:

Our server came over and gave us the “run down” on how things worked at this restaurant. He took our drinks order and returned with a lazy susan filled with dishes of rice, wings, salad, sauces and crispy noodles as well as the drinks.

We noticed that the restaurant was very noisy, but it didn’t really bother us.
A short time later the server brought over skewers full of meat. He immediately started to scoop the different meats onto our plates; we had to tell him that we only really like turkey, we had our plates filled. During the course of the meal, the hostess called for the kids to join her in a Hawaiian tradition of “coconut races” The kids lined up and when it was time to go, furiously started “sweeping” the coconuts around the wooden pathway that was the “racecourse”. We were located at the end of the first turn next to the pathway and many kids “lost” their coconuts under our table :rotfl: . Once the race was over it was time for “Wishes” the lights were dimmed, the sound was piped in and ”Wishes” began.
The restaurant became silent!!!

WOW, how do they make a firework turn into a Star??????? :wizard:

It was beautiful, and a memory I will never forget :flower:

When the fireworks ended, the hostess called for the kids to try Polynesian dancing, which was fun to watch. We had, by this time started our desert course of Pineapple on sticks. Dipped into a caramel type sauce, delicious!!!! (My mouth is watering while typing this) Alas, all good things come to an end, and our experience at Ohanas was over.

We took photos with each of us standing beside the different Tiki idols in the waiting area as we left and strolled around the Polynesian resort for a short time (to walk off the filling meal) then once again, headed back to our accommodation for the evening.

Another “Disney magic” evening over………. but tomorrow we head to Animal Kingdom and MGM!!!! :cool1:

More to come.......

Thanks for posting your report!

Could you see Electric Water Pageant from the restaurant, do you know? If you hadn't been able to see it and had wanted to, would your pager work out on the beach?

I'm just curious because we are going there in may, and our ressies are 9:10. I think that's exactly when the water pageant should be going by and I really want my mom to see it.

Hi off to neverland,

I'm sorry, I can't answer your question as I didn't see the Electric Water Pageant from the restaurant at the time and do not know what time it usually appears :confused3 , but hopefully, someone else on the DIS Boards can help you.

I have watched the EWP from the beach at the Polynesian on a previous trip, (but I can't remember what time it was). On another trip we went on a wagon ride ($8 each) from FW at 7pm (during winter months) and the driver took us to a spot where we stopped and watched the ELP along the trail which was nice. Hope this helps :flower:

The ELP doesn't last very long, but I'm sure your mom will like it!!!! ::yes::

I love Ohana's! By far one of our favorite places to eat at the world! :earboy2:

The last time we were there we were able to get the perfect window seat to watch the fireworks as well as the EWP from the restauraunt.

Sounds like you had a great experience at Ohana's!!! :wizard:

Hi Carol:

Nice review, the pineapple and caramel sounds delicious.

We have stayed at the poly but because of finances never done ohana's. Hubby would love the meat, but did they have turkey? I don't eat alot of meat but turkey would be nice.

When we stayed at the poly the electric water parade was between 9 and 9.30.

Hi cottontail (Deb)

Thanks for the compliment, I have thought about doing 1 or 2 "nice" meals each trip, and this was my first time at O'hanas. The meats they offered on the skewers were: Shrimp, pork, steak & turkey. My family prefer chicken & turkey so we asked just to have the turkey only.

Talk to you soon!

Hi Carol!

Nice trip report! Also have to ask, do you have a westie? DH and I are westie lovers! (We actually just lost our Murphy; she was 16 and my sweetie :sad1: ).

Hi disney4me4ever (AKA Nancy)

Thanks for your comment.

Yes, I have a sweet little westie (aged 1year) called MacKenzie and my family is totally in love with her and her crazy ways. She keeps us laughing!

I am so sorry about your Murphy :sad1: , I know what it is like. We had our previous westie named "Bonnie" till she was aged 13, she had Cancer and we lost her in March 2004. We couldn't stand the emptiness in the house and after a month of her passing we started to search for another westie. We were very lucky to get our new little girl. The breeder we bought her from told us that she gets on average 8 enquiries a day for puppies!!!!!! The reason she decided to let us have one of her puppies is that she also had just lost her best stud dog to Cancer (he cost her $20,000!!!!) and she knew how we were feeling.
After we all had a good cry, she told us that we were going to get one of her pups and MacKenzie came into our lives on April 27th 2004 at 8 weeks old and weighing 2.5lbs. She is now a whooping 12 lbs :goodvibes

Hi Carol~
Don't want to hijack your thread, but had to respond. You are correct about the waitlists for westie breeders. I am on a waitlist for another westie, as I can't stand to be without another one. I'm guessing it will take a while, but the wait is worth it. They're so special! And as you know, when they are at "that age" they can be little pistols! :rotfl: Your post made me smile :goodvibes thanks for that.

Nancy :earsgirl:

Hi disney4me4ever,

I don't mind this little detour of the thread as I don't ever mind talking about MacKenzie. As well as WDW and DIS she is my other "obsession"

I hope that you don't have too long a wait and wish you the best of luck, and as you have already said, you know that the wait will be worth it!!!

Hi there, great report thanks for posting it. I looked at it because I wanted to see your review of Ohannas. We are going back in 5 weeks and are considering eating there. We havne't before and we have the DDE this time so lets use it and get that 20% off. :cool1: Then I read the rain and the date and laughed. We were there the same time. The news said we got 2 inchs of rain that day. Imagine if that was snow! :earseek: We went to MK that day and the park was EMPTY!

How did you think the food was? We are wondering if our 4 year old will have anything she likes (worth paying the money for, if she was still under 3 and free ;) )

Hi DisneyPhD,

Thanks for your comments. I think you will enjoy Ohana's and I think your DD will also like it. The entertainment is geared towards the kids. The food is very good. In regards to whether your DD princess: would like the food, it depends on whether she likes meat? (the meal is centered around the skewers that are brought from the fire-pit) The choices of meats are: Pork, Steak, Shrimp & Turkey. Because my family mostly likes Turkey, this is what we asked for. It is expensive for a meal, but I looked at it as if this was going to be a one and only time there. Of course, now I would consider going back, but I think I would prefer to go just with my DH next time. My kids are older and just as happy with less expensive meals. I don't know what the cost would be for a child of 4. Maybe you could make this a late lunch/early supper meal so that it would justify the cost?

I can imagine that the day you spent at MK was empty as it did rain a lot that day. Hoping you got to do all the rides you wanted to do?

We did get alot done, mostly shows (county Bear, Tiki Room,) and the FL rides. We also did POTC and walked the Tree house, in the light rain. We had a great lunch at LLT, good escape from the weather.

I think we will do Ohanas, something new we haven't tried before. She does like meat so we should be good. (and we have the DDE this time so if we are going to do it, this is the time too.)

We ended up at MK a bit this trip in the rain, it did cut down on the crowds.
