In browsing a couple of guide books, they suggest making a 7PM reservation for the Rose and Crown or San Angel restaurants, request an outside table, and hang around and watch Illuminations. I know neither of these places can guarantee you an outside table, but in general, does this plan work? Has anyone done it and had success and what time did you check in for the outside table? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good Question from a fellow Augustian,I made my ressie for around 5:15 so I could be out in enough time to see Illuminations, but I hate to eat dinner so early, cant wait to hear what the Vets have to say!:)

Personally I think 7pm resies is WAY to early. Turn around time is usually only an hour or so. You might try a 7:45 - 8 ADR and offer to wait for outside seating. If you are able to get later seating, you can always opt for dessert only and still be in a great location for Illuminations :wizard: However, keep in mind, everyone on the patio has the same idea as you :confused3

just me

:surfweb:

ps: great views of Illuminations anywhere around WS :yay:

We had reservations for 7:50, we got an indoor table around 10 to or 5 to 9pm all the waitor and waitresses were escorting their patrons onto the patio for illuminations. So it doesnt really matter if you have a table outside or not there is room out there for everybody and you will have a great spot to view it...so i would try to get reservation between 7:45 -8pm

oh and even if you have a later reservation (after 8pm) it seemed that those guests stepped away from their table to watch illuminations outside and then went back in to settle their bill after the show

Get the reservations for Rose & Crown. San Angel is an all inside restaurant inside the Mexician pavillion. There is the Catena de San Agnel which is right on the water with a great view of IllumiNations but this is a CS place and they do not take reservations.

I didn't know that they had outside seating at San Angel. Do you mean the Cantina, which is counter service, and doesn't take ADR's?? If there is something new going on, I would like to know that option is available.

My sister and I had a great view at Tokyo Dining on our last trip. And it was just kind of a pleasant accident that we ended up eating there right before illuminations started.

We wanted to try this on our upcoming trip. It's good to know that you can step out on the balcony at Rose & Crown to watch. Now, I'm not so nervous about getting an outside table!

A couple of years ago we did the Rose & Crown for the express purpose of seeing Illuminations ... we ended up being seated inside ... meal interruption to hurry and finish our food and then rush outside -- only to be smashed with the rest of the restaurant patrons out on the patio. Very difficult to see through the crush.

Never again.

I know everyone talks about doing this, but I found the whole experience quite disappointing and wish I hadn't spent the extra money. I'm glad for those that had it work out, but wanted to throw in my personal experience with scheduling dinner around Illuminations.
