I have never stayed there but my understanding is that the rooms that overlook Epcot only have a view of some of the higher fireworks. Most of the show takes place in the middle of the lagoon and can only be viewed from inside the park.
You can see the Illuminations high fireworks (not the whole show)from the Boardwalk, the beach in front of the BC/YC, and from some of the waterview rooms at the YC. We had a third floor room at the YC , waterview, overlooking the Wedding Pavilion and could see the Epcot fireworks from our balcony. If you have a waterview room, request upper floor with Illuminations view. You'll love the YC - we got married there so it has a special place in my heart!
I can definitely confirm that you can see the skyworks and lasers from Illuminations from the balcony of some of the YC rooms that overlook Crescent Lake. The reason I said "...some of the rooms..." is that are instances where rooms have been designated as water view, but the trees have grown so large it is getting difficult to see around them.
You can definitely see the high fireworks from the Boardwalk in front of YC or the BWI, and also if you stand on the bridge that links the BC to the Boardwalk near the ESPN Club.
