Where are the best places to eat and view illuminations. I normally wouldn't want to eat that late but I do like the idea of having a seat with a view for a change. We are going at the end of May so I am betting it is too late to reserve anything but I would at least like to know which establishments to be looking at.

Rose & Crown if you can get a patio seat. Shoot for a ressie between 730-8pm. They have delicious sticky toffee pudding.

sadly, they are already booked. 6:50 is the latest I can get and I don't see us sitting there for 2hrs. I would feel like I am stealing seats from somebody else. I booked it anyway though but will continue to watch that one for cancellations.

Any other places with a good view?

The only places with good views from your seat would be Rose & Crown and La Hacienda. At neither place are you guaranteed a seat with a view, and it's likely they won't even allow you to wait for one.

yeah, I kind of figured as much. I guess it is just the luck of the draw then huh?

Ok, I have 7:45 ressies at La Hacienda and a 6:50 at rose and crown. I will keep monitoring Rose and Crown for a better time and eventually cancel one or the other.

Illuminations restaurant viewing

. . . Rose & Crown (patio) - Excellent View
. . . La Hacienda - Excellent View
. . . Tokyo Dining - Good View (patio), but only a few window seats available
. . . Chef de France - Good View, but only a few window seats available
. . . Bistro de Paris - Partial View, but limited number of window seats
. . . Liberty Inn (patio) - Obstructed View

You can always do the walk-up thing and hope you get lucky. You very well may at R&C.

Just curious, between R&C and La Hacienda, which will I be seeing the least amount a waiting at with a 7-8ish reservation.

Right now I have a 6:50 at R&C and a 7:45 at La Hacienda.

I am kind of leaning toward R&C just because it sounds like I will be able to view Illuminations no matter what there.

Of course, there is still a part of me that thinks I should not try planning eating so late in the day since we are usually 5:30pm eaters. heh

1) Of course, a good question.
2) Why are you hogging ADR's.
3) Others are probably wanting one of those which you have taken.
4) If others hogged ADR's, then YOU wouldn't have these.
5) Not a good feeling.

Gee thanks for the help. I trying to decide which one to keep so I can drop the other on sooner rather than later. they have only been tied up for 2 days. I'm sure that is really creating problems right now.

I heard the patio of La Hacienda is a great place for viewing, and the seating capacity is much larger than R & C, which would give you better odds of being sat outside. Also, you wouldn't have to wait as long to watch Illuminations. On the other hand, since your ressie at R & C is earlier, maybe you can tell them upon arrival that you would be willing to wait a while if you could be seated on the patio. We've done that at Ohana, and they were really nice about it, tho we waited probably 45 minutes. I heard R & C aren't as obliging, I'm not sure.

I wouldn't sweat making double-ressies until you make up your mind. I think we've all done this a time or two. You are being courteous and cancelling the other when you make up your mind.

I thought the patio for La Hacienda was actually a new bar now with separate seating.

The patio seating is the CS restaurant, La Cantina de San Angel. All of the seating for La Hacienda is indoors.

One advantage to R&C is the viewing area adjacent to the dining patio that is reserved exclusively for diners at R&C. If you are seated inside the restaurant, let your server know you want to see IllumiNations and they will pace your meal accordingly, or if you finish a bit early, they will let you wait in the viewing area. In December we ordered our desserts, went outside to see the fireworks, then returned to our table afterwards.

Thank you for the clarification. For some reason, I thought it was an extent ion of the restaurant. We saw it during the F &W, it looks like a lovely spot to watch illuminations.
