Illinois DISer's-what's up with WLSam?

I'm a regular listener to the Roe and Gary WLS radio show each afternoon but missed the original reason Gary has been off the show for the past few weeks and now Roe comes off and on???? From the tidbits Roe shares, it sounds serious....

What's up with their afternoon show?? Yesterday they had their lame producer and Kristina holding down the fort....ugh.

Ok apparently Garry's contract is up in the next month or so - I think its less than a month now and they are in negotiations..the studio decided to take him off the air while the negotiations were going on.

So that left Roe running the show solo with more input from Jim (the newsman); however last week Roe made a comment about how Jim was up and leaving him and going on vacation this week.

So then Monday (just this past) there was a repeat show and Tuesday they had some fillins on who annouced that Roe was truly sick (not away due to the ongoing problems) and hoped to be back the next day...he wasn't - I don't know about today though.

Anyway on days Roe is there he gives an update on the situation right after the news at 2 and again at 5; but aside from the first day when he talked alot about it; he doesn't now, saying he doesn't want to bore the listeners with the negotiations process.

He has said several times that he and Garry are a team and will be back together.

If you want to read up more on this there are message boards on wlsam.com that are full of information (probably mostly speculation.

It's pretty much what Liz said. Roe just said a few minutes ago (he's back today) that he had a severe case of the stomach flu and had to be hospitalized to get some IV fluids. He is better now. Jim is on vacation and Garry has been taken off the air until his contract dispute is settled. Roe said he is hopeful that everything will be worked out this week, but he doesn't know for sure.

Thanks for the information.
I think it's a dangerous move on the part of WLS management to take Gary completely off, though. That show is (was) the top-rated show in the nation for it's time slot and they always left Roe and Gary on during past negotiations.....I'm not interested in listening to "repeat" shows or fill-in hosts, so I've been listening to WGN (eeks) instead....wonder how many listeners they are losing in this process? Oh well, probably some new manager wanted to throw their power around a bit.....

Rumor has it that Garrys' wife took over as his agent and is demanding lots lots more money and WLS took him off the air in hopes that negotiations would move along faster. Roe has already stated that it is the Roe and Garry show and if Garry does not have his contract reinstated they will go somewhere else TOGETHER.
