We want to start the day (rope drop) in DL and park hop to DCA at 11:00. Can we make an ILL for RSR before 11:00 from the DL park for a time later in the day or do we have to wait until 11:00 before we can start making reservations over at DCA.

Well, at least in my experience, the time for the ILL is not going to be that far ahead of the current time. Like for example right now it's 3:15 pm and the RSR ILL is for 3:15 pm, and you can't choose a future time on the ILL.

Theoretically it should be possible to book an ILL for RSR from Disneyland in the morning, but practically speaking you won't be able to. You'll probably need to wait until maybe 10:30 (just keep an eye on the time).

Thanks for that, I couldn't remember from our last trip how far in advance we booked one for RSR but that makes sense. Thanks again.

If you have the Disneyland app on your phone, you can see all the LL/ILL times if you want to get a feel for what the LL times will be like, even if you're not at the park / don't have tickets.

Yes I have been doing that a bit but I live in Australia so the time difference is a bit of a problem. Thanks again

The app is smart enough to know whether you have Park Hopper tickets, and it'll allow you to book an ILL (or any Lightning Lane, really) in your non-starting park if the time is for 11AM onwards!

As the other poster said, some days it's easy to score a quick return time for RSR; other days it'll jump to a couple hours out. Either way, the app will let you know when you go to check, and it'll "protect" you from booking an ILL at a time your tickets won't support.

Thanks for the reminder about that. I'm starting to plan a DL trip and just checked RotR. ILLs are available less than one hour out!

And per the OP's topic, RSR ILLs are only four minutes out...

Yes I feel like when we were there in late April 22 all LL's & ILL's were available pretty close to the time I was requesting them and the crowd levels were probably moderate. This time we will be there the first week of December so I am hoping the crowds will either be pretty much the same or hopefully even a little bit less, seeing as it is the week straight after Thanksgiving.

@Porsche4 - Highly recommend riding at sunset or night....so much better. Plus, just visited Munich, Germany and they have a "Sally" in the Porsche Museum!!!

That is sooo cool. I love a good Porsche at any time, in fact my previous greyhound (RIP) was called Porsche hence my username. She was a gorgeous brindle girl, rescued through our GAP program here in Australia. She suffered a serious injury whilst in training so was placed in the program and we adopted her. I now have another black greyhound, her name is Neffie (named after Queen Nefertiti) as she is so regal looking. Thanks for the great photos, can't wait to meet Lightning McQueen and the gang again. Mater's ride is one of my favourites. I just love the sound track, it makes me laugh and I believe there will be a Xmas make over when we are there. Who doesn't love the idea of Mater singing Xmas carols.

How fun! Thanks for posting those photos, bfrosty. Good on Porsche for having a sense of humor and displaying that delightful car.

That must have been something to visit that museum. I had a 951 (944T) for many years. Wonderful car.

Oh, and I agree with you about doing RSR at night. It's wonderful. The whole Route 66/Radiator Springs area is so fun to walk around at night.

I saw a post the other day from someone who said the Sha Boom lighting show was a waste of time. I love that little show. All those gorgeous neon lights, they totally change the way Carsland looks and the show is just one of those little Disney touches that adds to the atmosphere of what is already a wonderful land. I can't wait to see it decked out in all its holiday glory.

I saw that posting, too. I agree with you: it's a very cute tradition. Just the sort of "extra" we expect from Disney. (I know we don't always get them...)

I wouldn't call it a waste of time, but I can see where it might seem underwhelming compared to how it's talked about by some. And I love all the little moments and touches we find and experience at Disney.

We caught it for the first time recently while at Flo's and I think based on the hype, we thought it might be a bit more dramatic or something. We looked up a little after it first started, went oh, this must be the Sha Boom lighting and then that was sort of it. I'm thinking perhaps if we catch it another time when it's darker out (I know sunset is sunset, but summer sunset is different lol), maybe it will have more of an effect on us.

So maybe just not living up to expectations based on what you sometimes read ;)

I can see that, but also, IMO, Flo's isn't the best place to watch it from. I think it's much more fun from the entrance to Cars Land, where you can see the whole street light up area by area, with the Cadillac Range in the distance.

I think it’s cute also, I wish they waited until it was slightly darker though. It’s still bright enough at sunset where the lights aren’t super visible

@irlandaise nice! Yeah, they had all these Porsche's out front at the museum for test drives. It was expensive though!!! This crazy looking museum building was just the museum part!!! It was wild.

Thanks, that's good to keep in mind. We have Magic Keys so are at the parks all the time, but not always at sunset except when we're doing planned overnights. We just haven't made the effort to be at Cars Land right then, so will often miss it or just catch a little bit as we're walking through. If we try to time it in the future, I'll remember to go for a looking down the street view.

I love CarsLand at night in all its neon glory. I haven't seen the Sh-Boom moment but I want to. Also, RSR at night is an amazing experience. The ride is awesome daylight or nighttime.
