I'll be sleeping on the sofa

I am planning to bring the extended family to WDW and reserving a 2 bedroom unit. I'll be the one on the sofa. So I was wondering how the living room sofa measures up in the various DVC resorts:

1. How comfortable is the sleeper sofa in the living room?

2. Do you have to go through a bedroom to reach a closet?

3. Do you have to go through a bedroom to reach a bathroom?

Any advice on how this might differ from resort to resort would be hugely welcomed.

Thanks,

We stayed in a 1 bd in May at OKW and my sister and I got the sofabed (my Mom got to sleep with my DD & DS in the King bed).

The sofa bed was o.k., but it was no King bed! We were really tired, so, the sofabed worked fine.

There are some 2bd at OKW that have a separate door to the bathroom via the laundryroom. This is very convenient for the person on the couch and provides privacy for the folks in the King bed.

Closets are in the bedrooms. There is a hall closet that you could probably use though.

I haven't been to the other resorts (tomorrow we leave to stay at our home resort --- finally).

Good luck!

You don't say which resort, and that DOES make a difference. If you are at OKW, there will be a front hall closet you can use, but there are also HUGE storage cabinets over near the dining room table that we have usually used for sofa guests clothing. If you are in a building number 30-64, there will be an extra door to the bathroom, but buildings under 30 will not have that.

If you are at any of the other DVC resorts, there will be a front hall closet for your clothes and an extra door to the master bathroom.

We normally get the 2BR at SSR and the pull out soft bed there is very comfortable (per my DS). You can get to a bathroom without going thru a bedroom, however, you do not have a closet available to you without going thru or into a bedroom. There is the closet with the washer/dryer in it but that's it.

Enjoy your trip. pixiedust:

First mistake - member sleeping on the sleeper sofa.
Second mistake - bringing extended family. Are you sure they aren't going to cancel on you? ;)

We made those two mistakes on our first trip earlier this month. How it happened is too much to type out here, although I am tempted. The main thing is that my DH volunteered to stay on the fold out at OKW with our DS7 for gallant and noble reasons. He is not a small man and not without back trouble, though, and when he woke up that first morning, he said that it was not comfortable to him and his back didn't feel so good. Our son slept fine and never complained about the fold out. I spent half a night on that fold out (yes, musical beds) and woke up feeling fine and dandy. It is a firm sort of mattressy thing on there. As fold out couches go, it seemed to me to be pretty ok.

It was more preposterousness (and a building number lower than 30) that had 5 of us sharing the 2nd bathroom, too. That extra door making the "Master Bath" into the "Villa powder room" can not be underestimated. We loved the location of our building, but were frustrated a bit with the bathroom situation. It seems like this is only a problem in those lower numbered OKW villas, though, and Disney got it right everywhere else.

We ended up wishing that we had either 1. gotten a grand villa or 2. insisted that no, WE would not be staying on the fold out and my 88 year old grandmother would not be staying on the fold out either. I didn't spend much time wishing for a higher numbered villa, as we liked our location, but I did wish for that bathroom door a few times!

I kid you not, this is EXACTLY how I was going to respond! :lmao:

I've slept on the sofa sleeper in SSR, studio, but I'm sure they are all the same at SSR. It was very comfortable! DS slept on the sofa sleeper in a 1 BDR there and said the same thing. I don't know about the other DVC properties though...sorry!

I tried out the new sleeper sofa in the BWV living room last week and it was very comfortable. These new sleep sofas have gotten pretty great reviews and I agree. It is a good thing, too. DH is having some health issues and may not be going along in Dec. I have a friend who will probably go instead. I will give her the master and sleep in the living room. Thank you to whomever it was that decided to get all the new sofa beds at BWV! :goodvibes

This is probably advice I'm too stubborn to take. :rolleyes1 I'm hoping to start a tradition for my brother's family and my folks. I guess since I'm paying for it, if I don't like sleeping on the sofa, I can break open another piggy bank, add more points, and aim for a GV. And if they cancel, well, I'll just sleep in a different bed each night of the week. :sunny:

Thanks for the advice on the OKW bathrooms. That's just something I couldn't get from the official room layouts.

My friend stayed at BCV in Sept. and her DH slept on the sofa one night. He actually said it was pretty comfortable... ;)

Wow - this is so sweet, generous and well intentioned. I think you at least deserve a nearby studio for yourself. I hope your family truly apreciates you. :)

The sleeper sofas at SSR are incredible - they are not your typical "mattress" with a bar sleeper-sofa set-up - they are some sort of very thick memory foam-like material. No bar or springs at all. When he felt it, my DH actually wanted to put the kids in the bed and us on the sleeper sofa.

I think they are working on slowly replacing the sofas at all the DVC resorts with the newer SSR version and maybe BWV has the new ones as well?
