Aaarrhg! I am sooo irritated.

So DS is having his bday in a couple of weeks. Personally I would strongly (got that--strongly!!) prefer to just have G'ma and G'pa come BUT this would cause major strife and guilt trips within DHs family. SO, I call to tell them our plans for the party the other day. MIL tells me that the two hours I had planned is really not goign to be enough for one SIL because is she is going to drive that far, she wants to stay for longer. (The drive is just under an hour) WTH? So, don't come!!

However, I know that will not be the result. They will still come and just not leave at the time we said in the invitation the party was over. SO, this year, I am striking back--we are making plans for 2:00 that afternoon. (The party is supposed to end at 1:00) I feel better already!

It's just the prelude to the holiday season. Oh yeah, good times for all!

Glad you were able to vent!
Honestly you should be happy they want to come and celebrate your DS's birthday. Its not the case in most families.

Its never easy to deal with extended families! Hope it goes well.

:rotfl: Good for you! Don't let your in-laws bully you!

My anut planed a B-day party for "October B-days", and keeps changing the date. The 3rd time she canged it 5 days before the party. Now it's not until November. My dad planned a hunting trip for that weekend a month ago. My aunt told me, "He'll just have to choose between hunting and family." My mother is so mad. She is now trying to get the rest of the family to boycott the party.

Don't you love your relatives!

I am *so* with you on this one.

EVERY year, we plan the party and DH's husband's family complains....it's too early, it's too late, it's on the wrong day, etc. Could we reschedule to make ALL of them happy? NO!

THEN DON'T COME. It gets old really quick! And to top it off, the grandparents want to bring the presents over either that morning or the day before or something so the cousins won't see what you get........

whatever!

You know, there are times I wish my family lived close enough to spend birthdays and holidays together. However, then I read posts like this and realize I'm lucky they're far enough away to only see a few times a year and have lots of fun when we are together.

I think you made a smart decision is planning something for after the party. Good luck and just remember as long as your DS has a good time to heck with everyone else.

:rotfl: :rotfl: Yep, my family lives far away. However, they are all rational people. Several years ago, when some of them lived close we were contemplating going to Vegas for Christmas with quite short notice. I told DH his mother would freak and he claimed my sisters would get upset too. So, I called them and said, "We found a really cheap airfare to Vegas over Christmas and we are thinking about going." Their response was, "Cool. Sounds fun!" :rotfl:
