Il Pochi il Fiero y Blabbermouths...Magical Reunion FINALLY!!!

So if you plug it in to the computer, can you copy to disk?
I read that they are compatible with MAC, but what about us HP users?
Jordan has a new MAC, I could just use her computer.:cutie:

Since I'm hauling the big still camera and three lenses, plus the tripod, to Alaska, I thought this little video camera would be great to stick into an extra pocket. Maybe I'll get a close-up of a whale. Or maybe I don't want to, after what happened at SeaWorld!
Yes - it plugs right into a PC too, so you can copy to disk and burn DVDs.... That's the reason I got it - it's small.... I really don't shoot that much video - but like having it when I need it. I bought a waterproof pouch for it and used it some when snorkeling. Some of those videos, unedited are on my Phanfare site....

Those came out really well! I am sufficiently impressed.:thumbsup2
Now I just hope mine gets here before I leave for Omaha.

Can you e-mail a video? Can you put one on Facebook? Or do you have to put it up, like on You Tube first and post a link?

The waterproof Olympus camera takes surprisingly good video as well. I'll have to upload some. :)

I think mine's the Olympus too, but I didn't know it took videos??:confused3
You guys are always telling me to READ THE INSTUCTIONS....maybe one day I'll listen.
:rolleyes1

Duh....I think I need a brain transplant. Mine's the Pentax.

Thinking that I need a good digital camera to replace my old faithful film Minolta (sad). There is not a body that will accept my lenses, so I am starting over (equally sad).

Dr. Mike helped with some recommendations when I was thinking of one for Sam (gasp - maybe 2 years ago).

So what are the present recommendations. Our underwater camera is an Olympus...but the brand to buy seems to be a Nikon D90. (price tag - gasp).

What to do, what to do.....

Main requirements - thru the lens viewfinder. Manual focus. And fast shutter speed. (oh yes, all the rest of the important stuff).

So, I will think. It would be great to have for the cruise.

Video is not a requirement, but may well come with one that has the options I would like.

Suggestions?????????

I guess it depends on what you want. I love my Nikon D300 - similar to the D90, but for most of my pictures these days I use a Canon S90. It's a point and shoot with a big LCD. It makes great pictures - and it has an underwater housing available.

Nikon D5000 review

Nikon D90 review

I'd probably go for either the s90 - it doesn't meet all your requirements or the D90.

Thanks Virgil - so much to consider.....although I am not looking for one that needs an underwater housing....I learned I leave those pictures to Sam. Two with cameras do not a good dive buddy pair make....:lmao: Ask Jim - we lost Sam once...(ok "I" lost Sam once).

The S90 looks similar to the Olympus pocket camera that we have. I was actually looking ofr more of an upgrade and that appears to be the Nikon on your list. I skimmed the reviews.

The debate seems to be between D40 and D90 (with D60 losing all the time).

Are the extra megapixels worth the extra cost?

I come from a manual background, so that is audjustment is not a problem. the D90 I know will have more features than I will use. I "tested" a D90 and a D60 at the kids birthday party this weekend, but not computer review or printing - only the small screen.

So, what about the D40? Worth a look, or you would not recommend????

I also skimmed reviews of the Olympus....

??????????????????????????????

too many choices.

I have the D40X and I like it. It isn't as big as Virgil's camera, so it's easier for me to handle. And I've had no trouble finding extra lenses for it. It came with two, and I bought another with more telephoto power.
It can be shot as an automatic, or manual.
I couldn't tell from experience if the D80 picture quality is better, but I sure do have a "camera envy" for it. If I were just now getting a new one, I'd get the D80.
I haven't had any trouble learning to use them, and I'm an idiot who hates reading the manuals.

And no, I don't use this one for underwater. I use the Olympus for that.

Which means now I have to correct my response to Mark back there....mine really IS an Olympus, I looked...the underwater camera, that is. I get so confused

If you can find a D40 or D40x - that would be the one I'd get. Looks like Amazon.com has a couple of D40s in stock....but the price isn't great... There are some others on ebay that look good - some of the refurbs can be great buys...

Frances has a D60 - I got it because it was what I could get at the time.

Unless you are planning on enlarging 18x20 pictures - the extra megapixels aren't worth it.

If you can't find a D40 then a D5000 or a D90 is the way to go - D90 being the best choice if the price isn't bad...

Interestingly, I got my D40X at Ritz Cameras. They were having a sale, the kit included 2 lenses, a case, and also a free printer...full size.
Normally I wouldn't have even thought to look there, but I just happened to catch it.
Another place to look is online at www.bhphotovideo.com. I really trust them, and they have some good sales sometimes.

Thanks...so tough to decide. I am not planning on enlarging but I am planning on significant cropping at time, hence enlarging. Of course with a better lens - cropping and enlarging is not as needed. Just looked at the D5000 - that sounds tempting.

Must go look at the downside of a D5000.....The D90 is the best but it is pricey. Of course being wed to film, I am still in sticker shock. What I like about the D5000 review is that it appears lighter and believe me I have toted my share of cameras and lenses up ad down trails, so lighter is appealing.

I know of a great film camera store where I would trust a refurbished camera, but no digital store.

HUM....

Changing the subject - Jim - the photos of our cruise are still posted - grab the Octopus if you have not already, before it disappears.

Lisa - Good Luck in your meet.

Yeah - I got a top - shared with Virgil - who I might add, is a very BAD influence.

Checking out the D5000 on Amazon - hum???
I wouldn't hesitate buying one of the refurbs on ebay - some of the sellers have thousands of postive feedbacks. You can always add a squaretrade warranty on things you purchase there....

I'm sorry! Did I miss Elizabeth's birthday?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELIZABETH!!! :bday::cake:

Since we're getting close to booking for the wedding cruise, did we decide how we're doing Palo?

I think we should each book our own, on the date we decided, and then see if Virgil can talk to concierge to try to get us near the back, or all together. If not, we can go on the first day to at least request to be seated together or next to eachother.

Virgil....what do you think?

gaRry....I'm going to book one Palo brunch for me, and one for Vicki...if she doesn't want to go, I can cancel hers.

Thanks for the help and suggestions and reviews.

Present front runner is the D5000 with two lenses - package deal - good price.

D90 much more costly and more complex as to features.

Ponder, ponder...

Agree. Sharon is looking at the last night. There is usually nothing going on that night so it's a good night to do something special at Palos.

I don't think gaRry, Vicki and I are doing dinner. Just brunch. And we wanted to try to sit with Mark, Mary and anyone else who's going...at the time that Virgil and his wedding/family group are in the private room. So we can stare through the glass at them and make them uncomfortable. :lmao:

Actually, that will just put us closer to the sticky buns. Virgil, tell Frances "good luck with that one!":rotfl:
