Il Pochi il Fiero y Blabbermouths...Magical Reunion FINALLY!!!

Oh Monica ... I need a personal trainer! I went to the orthopedic spine dr. for a follow-up visit. It's been 4 years since my surgery. I got fussed at for not exercising. He has ordered me to PT to learn strength training exercises - primarily core & hips. He said I need to figure out how to manage 20 min. of cardio 3 times a week & do some stretching & strength training. Other than that, everything is fine & I don't have to go back unless I have problems.

I can't believe it's been 4 years!!!

If only I were closer!!! ;)

The biggest advice I can give is find something and somewhere you enjoy, exercise won't become a chore and you'll stick with it. Before you start with an exercise/strength program, make a list of the exercises or positions your doctor wants you to avoid and those he wants you to emphasize. Most gyms have staff who will help you set up a program.

Even think outside the box, when it comes to cardio and stretching...Maggie's dance studio offers Zumba classes, latin dance type cardio workout and everyone who attends always mentions it's lots of fun. Even the adult dance classes at her studio are filled with adults who are dancing and learning for exercise.

Sounding like a broken record when it comes to the water. Don't discount the benefits of water exercise - with the right instructor it isn't a "gray haired" class.

Look for intro exercise classes, it'll give you a chance to explore different formats to see what you might enjoy without jumping back into complicated choreography and becoming frustrated.

I would not recommend a group pilates class or pilates classes at your gym given your history of back surgery. You can be very successful with pilates, but with someone who has additional knowledge of specific exercises and modifications. (I'd probably say the same for a yoga class, too...)

Above all, ask questions of your trainer and instructor. They should be happy to share information with you. Be comfortable with their certifications, qualifications and experience.

Thanks Monica for the advice!

My dr. said that I have no limitations. Like you said, he also said that I need to find something I enjoy - tennis, yoga, etc.

We quit the Y last month & bought a gym-quality elliptical. I just need to start using it as much as Bruce does. We also have a BOSU & exercise ball at home. Dr. said to mention that when I got to PT & have them show me exercises using those. I've used the BOSU some with the videos that came with it but I need someone to tell me if I'm using it correctly .. does that make sense.

Anyway, thanks again for the advice.

The company that Jay gets his cholesterol medicine from sent him a Xertube. A rubber tube with handles at each end. Similar to what they've been having me use at therapy for my shoulder, but a little different, so I'm taking it in to therapy today to have them show me ways to use it so that it strengthens my shoulder w/o doing any damage.
So I think you're on the right track, Angie. Find out the proper way to use things at home. :thumbsup2

Hi folks --- too many clouds here to see the shuttle so thanks so much for the pictures. You know, the shuttle is going the wrong way in your shots, don't you?

Meanwhile, dinner was at Bonefish Grill - WDW sounds nice, but too far for dinner on a work night - a dive boat - maybe for Sam, but the seas have been too high for me. This weekend looks yucky 2-4 with NE swell of 2 feet. Nope, no sandwich for Sam in those conditions.

Stacey - mailing overseas - been there - done that. I think since it is not a gift someone will have to pay duty on the parcel.

Monica - in the bag of personal assistant tricks - do you know one for jump rope? Seriously, it is something I have thought of but no idea where to start.

Ang - good luck with your new routine and for being an inspiration.

Waffle House - what's next - pancakes on our heads:rotfl2:

Where you at my office? That is exactly what we saw too. :)

Not unless you've moved your office to Ponce Inlet, halfway between the Beach St. approach and the jetty??? My favorite beach spot.... especially during the week... when there's NOBODY there!!! It was just about empty til 2 o'clock when all the shuttle gawkers arrived...

Buy a jump rope? :thumbsup2

OK kidding aside, as with any exercise, start with a small amount of time and gradually increase - I would also guess a good pair of supportive shoes would be ideal.

Hey! I know those two pretty gals on the left!!

You know, I've never asked this before....but....you didn't EAT them after they'd been on your heads, did you??:confused3

I loved the shuttle pictures... Kristin (my new least favorite daughter) and Nick (my new least favorite soon to be son in law) were at the launch. They were there as guests of Boeing and got to watch from the VIP launch area which is were the Saturn V is - it's less than 3 miles to the launch site from there... She texted me a pic - I told her I hated her :rotfl: I'll post links to her pics once she gets back to Texas....

No we didn't eat them but we could have because if you look closely you will see that the server they had in Palo (I just came in for the picture) gave us wax paper to put between the pancakes and our heads. :lmao:

Just finished hula hooping with the girls. Does that count as exercise? I think it should count for some sort of flexibity exercise. I think my sides are bruised!

Mary --- :rotfl:

Monica - not fair...I mean, how do you do this effectively.:yay:

Virgil - problems with the kids......:lmao:I mean, did they not invite you.

It IS good exercise! It's part the routine on Wii Fit.

Just because the shuttle didn't launch when you were there, you don't need to take it out on your daughter & future son in law!

OK - I'll admit - Kristin did invite me.... I just had to work... of course if I knew that she had VIP seating - I'd have called in....

Ditto your Dad....

NO and

NO

IF the girls get to cruise again, it doesn't have to just be Moms, because we have some women who (were smart!) & don't have kids...and THEY are invited...if we go. But NOT young women who we still have to WORRY about! But I love you anyway.

And....NO....you're not coming with us on the cruise next summer unless you get your own room. With your own money. And then you have to pretend you don't know us. We are KID FREE. But I love you anyway.
