Ikea Problems, no..............

Hi. we just got back from Ikea and got DD17 dresser ready to assemble, but no instructions included. Our nearest store is 1 hour away. Has anyone had this problem?

Yep, I've had that problem. I've also had a cabinet order that took 5 MONTHS before it was all correctly delivered.

I like Ikea, and I have fun shopping there, but I am REALLY careful about checking over every single detail before I leave the store. And I now have 3 of the store manager's names and direct extensions saved in my address list, and I'm not afraid to use them!

We've been lucky so far. Everything we've bought has been complete and has functioned. I love the store so I'm glad.

Have you tried going to their website? They may have the assembly instructions online. I like Ikea, I wish there was one in Orlando, it would be so convenient for the CP kids.

Your wish is being granted - just on the local news tonight it said that a new Ikea store is being built in Orlando, and should be open this fall ! :

The Orlando Ikea is to be 310,000 square feet with 1,200 parking spaces on 22 acres off Eastgate Drive, south of Conroy Road, at the southeastern end of The Mall at Millenia. One the store opens, employment in Orlando is forecasted to be 400 jobs.

Seahunt, That is good news! DD will be down there for the Fall CP, Aug-Jan. We'll have to check this out when I visit. Thanks for the info!

Finally, now the people of Orlando will be able to go home without having found what they went to IKEA to buy -- just like the rest of us.

Ugh... don't even get me started on IKEA. DH and I have always loved their style, and haven't really had any problems with items in-stock, purchased at the store. But our sectional couch which we ordered was the worst nightmare of my life! Oh how I so want to boycott them, but I just love their products too much!

Regarding your question, I went to their website and there is something called "Ask Anna", where you can type in a question. I asked about getting new instructions, and here is what it said:

"If you don't have the instructions to assemble an IKEA product, please contact the store from which you bought the product and they'll be happy to provide new instructions. Very soon you´ll be able to ask me to send you instructions via mail for any of our products!"

I don't know if that's implying you'd have to go in or not. If I were you, I'd call them and insist they mail them out to you since you are so far away and it is not your fault the instructions weren't included, it's theirs. I'd definitely be nice at first; maybe they don't have a problem doing that. But I would NOT take no for answer... that's just me though!

I would call customer service. We bought a rolling chair and it only came with 3 wheels. Our nearest store is an hour away. They sent the wheels through the mail, no problem.

I love IKEA and hope you can get your instructions. The hardest part about putting it all together though is no words - having to do everything by picture is a little hard.

On a different note, a couple seasons ago on Amazing Race the teams had to put together an IKEA desk at the Sweden store. My sister had just bought the same desk and it took us about 2 1/2 hours to put it together. It was fun to watch them try to figure it out after we had already done so!
