Does anyone have the Ikea Poang Chair? I'm looking to buy this for my sons dorm room and was wondering about the quality, I don't want a throw away chair, I want something he can take with him to an apartment possibly next year. If you have it is the $29 cotton cover any good or do we need to buy the $59 cover?

Thanks

We have 2 Poang chairs that are 2 years old. My son's room is the big room over the garage so my kids use them everyday to game and watch tv on. I have offered to buy a new cushion cover (beige and teenage boys :rolleyes1) and let him take one to college. The chair frame is in great shape! He is taking me up on the offer. :thumbsup2

What's your opinion on the chair cover is the $29 one adequate or will it fall apart? Or should we buy the $59 one which I am assuming is more durable, I haven't seen either.

I have one of these chairs with the $29 cover and I think that as long as he is careful with it being light tan, it is plenty durable. The chair is so comfortable-- I love mine!

My parents bought me that chair (or a version of it) for my college dorm room freshman year and I still have it. My freshman year was 1997. :) It holds up pretty well, I've just had to recover it but the frame is still sturdy!

It's a good chair, ours has been in our kids room for 7 years and after 5 years they trashed the cover and it was worth it to get another. Plain cloth cover, cheap. Very comfortable.

We've had our Ikea Poang chair for nearly 10 years and bought it back when the price was much higher than it is now. We had the inexpensive off-white canvas pad and scotch guarded it and had no issues with it for a long while until someone (not me) spilled red gatorade on it. We've only replaced the chair cover that once.

Periodically we do have to tighten the screws, but only about once every year or thereabouts. It's a great chair!

I've had one with the $29 cover for 3 or 4 years now and even with kids jumping on it, the chair has held up well. I do need to tighten the screws once in a while, but that is it.

Our Poang chair -the one I'm sitting in right now- is at least 6 years old. I got it for free because someone was getting rid of it, which is how I've collected most of our Poang chairs. It is a tough, comfortable chair. I would have no problem getting a used one through Craigslist and splurging on either two covers or a really nice one (maybe the leather one?) for a college kid, it's the covers that add up.
