Ikea opens tomorrow Update today

Oh and the $.75 ginger thin cookies mmmmm

DH fortunately has to work in that area fairly often so I can send him out the next time he's in the area. I really want one of the entertainment centers but it's going to be while before I can afford it with Christmas around the corner.

As far as what the big deal is - simple. I have a small house and a lot of stuff. IKEA has the most incredible storage solutions. Especially if you are a book or dvd collector. and $4.50 for 6 really nice wine glasses can't be beat!

Thanks everyone I am going to brave it tomorrow. I can go to the VF outlet if it is too busy. They have an additional 20% off there too.

Bella, if you wouldn't mind, can you check in and let us know how the crowds were? Thanks.

Tomorrow's a school holiday, don't forget! :faint: :scared:

I will let you know when (or if ) I return. It i now5:40 and my husband wants to leave by 630 since he wants to avoid rush hour! I must be crazy last time I did something like this (excluding Black Fridays) was when I got up to go to the wedding gown sale at Filenes! That was 27 years ago. My husband's thought it it will not be as bad as a Saturday since everyone is NOt off on NOv. 11.

I went yesterday also! It was nice but i had my daughter and after 30 minutes, she was done. So we made it thru quickb just to check stuff out......it was nice and I cannot wait to go back with a friend!

I saw the op post and immediately heard in my head Weird Al's song "Hardware Store" Off his album "poodle hat" If you've not heard it, check it out, I'll post the lyrics for you, because that's what it's like. But an Ikea opening is AWESOME!

Nothin' ever (ever) happens in this town
Feelin' low down (down), not a lot to do around here
I thought that I would go right out of my mind
Until a friend told me the news

He said, "Hey, you know that vacant lot
Right beside the gas station? Well, somebody bought it
And on that spot they're gonna build a shop
Where we can go buy bolts and screws"

Since then I've been walking on air (air)
I can barely brush my teeth or comb my hair
'Cause I'm so excited and I really don't care
I've been waiting since last June

For this day to finally arrive
I'm so happy (happy) now just to be alive
'Cause any minute now I'm gonna be inside
Well, I hope they open soon

I can't wait, (no I) I can't wait (oh when)
When are they gonna open the door?
I'm goin' (yes I'm) goin', I'm a-goin' to the
Goin' to the (hard) ware I'm goin', really goin' to the
Goin' (hard) I'm goin' to the (hard) oh yes, I'm goin' to the
Hardware store

In my sleeping bag I camped out overnight
Right in front of the store, then as soon as it was light out
I pressed my nose right up against the glass
You know, I had to be first in line

Gonna get me a flashlight and a broom
Want a pair of pliers for every single room of my house
See those hacksaws? Very, very soon
One of them will be all mine

Guys with nametags walking down the aisles
Rows of garden hoses that go on for miles and miles
Brand new socket wrenches in a plethora of styles
All arranged alphabetically

And they're doing a promotional stunt
There's a great big purple sign out front
That says every 27th customer
Will get a ball peen hammer free

I can't wait, (no I) I can't wait (oh when)
When are they gonna open the door?
I'm goin' (yes I'm) goin', I'm a-goin' to the
Goin' to the (hard) ware I'm goin', really goin' to the
Goin' (hard) I'm goin' to the (hard) oh yes, I'm goin' to the
Hardware store

I'm goin' (yes I'm) goin', I'm a-goin' to the
Goin' to the (hard) ware I'm goin', really goin' to the
Goin' (hard) I'm goin' to the (hard) oh yes, I'm goin' to the
Hardware store

Would you look at all that stuff ...
They've got allen wrenches, gerbil feeders, toilet seats, electric heaters
Trash compactors, juice extractor, shower rods and water meters
Walkie-talkies, copper wires safety goggles, radial tires
BB pellets, rubber mallets, fans and dehumidifiers
Picture hangers, paper cutters, waffle irons, window shutters
Paint removers, window louvres, masking tape and plastic gutters
Kitchen faucets, folding tables, weather stripping, jumper cables
Hooks and tackle, grout and spackle, power foggers, spoons and ladles
Pesticides for fumigation, high-performance lubrication
Metal roofing, water proofing, multi-purpose insulation
Air compressors, brass connectors, wrecking chisels, smoke detectors
Tire guages, hamster cages, thermostats and bug deflectors
Trailer hitch demagnetizers, automatic circumcisers
Tennis rackets, angle brackets, Duracells and Energizers
Soffit panels, circuit brakers, vacuum cleaners, coffee makers
Calculators, generators, matching salt and pepper shakers

I can't wait, (no I) I can't wait (oh when)
When are they gonna open the door?
I'm goin' (yes I'm) goin', I'm a-goin' to the
Goin' to the (hard) ware I'm goin', really goin' to the
Goin' (hard) I'm goin' to the (hard) oh yes, I'm goin' to the
Hardware store

I'm goin' (yes I'm) goin', I'm a-goin' to the
Goin' to the (hard) ware I'm goin', really goin' to the

Well I went to day and it was not all that bad because I got there at about 9:30. WE waited maybe less than ten minutes to get down the road and park and maybe 10 minutes to get our food in the restaurant. Let me say at this point the food was not bad. The 99c breakfast really was good at least according to my DH. They gave you a huge plate of bacon, eggs and homefries with peppers and onions. There is also this kind of deep dish apple pie (think Mile HIgh Pie only higher and with more apples and less sweet) it was only 1.99!! Then they had a torte with a heath bar type crunch for 50C. There were pannini sandwiches for 2.99 and I guess later in the day there is a salad bar etc. All in all it was a huge value and very good.

The crowds inside were not bad when we started either. We breezed (well as much as one could breeze at Ikea) and left at about 12:30. When we left the traffic was UNBELIEVABLE! It was backed up the highway for as far as the eye can see. I did notice that on the way in there is another entrance but I cannot figure out how to get to it. It looked much less crowded and it cut off the whole Christmas Tree street.

IMHO I say go early but do not be afraid to go in this early stage. It really is fun and we will definately go back.

I got a bunch of candle things, spot lights for under my kitchen cabinets, a light for my computer desk, two fry pans, cutting boards, a floating candle bowl that would be like 20 at Yankee and a bag of 24 floating candles all for a little more than 50.00. Oh I forgot I also got a spatula.

Sounds like it wasn't too bad. Our IKEA opened a few month's ago and I really like it. I decided that for those prices I'd even buy furniture for my bedroom, replaced the miss/match I'd collected over the years. Then of course I had to have new bedding, and furniture didn't go with the walls so I had to paint. I have a whole new room and I really like it :) Best of all I've spent about $1100, about $600 was for the furniture.

The quality is good for the prices, I've put enough of it together now to appreciate that although they use particle board and laminate the screws fit and the holes are drilled correctly. I've purchased ready to assemble things before that weren't and it is a real pain, the worst was a Rocking chair I bought from disney.com.

Well, I live 20 minutes away and I guess the thought of our weekly Costco visit is out of the question? :guilty: But I need my paper cups!!

I think I'll check it out sometime before Christmas, if only to try this awesome food! lol

I have to commute right by the entrance to the Plaza IKEA is in. I sat in traffic today for 45 minutes to go 7 miles. I was not happy, apparently the afternoon/evening traffic today was insane.

I would say do not try to go to Costco. It will be so crowded when Costco opens (is it at 10 or 11 I cannot remember) that it will take you too long to get to the store. In addition, I bet lots of people are using the Costco lot when Ikea is full.
