II trades

If I put in a request for a trade with II for July of 2008, when do they take the points from me? If, by some miracle, I'm successful say by next year, do they take the points then or do they wait until my dates? I have an October use year.

The reason I'm asking is I will be making our reservations for our annual trip in November, and will be using 2007's points for that reservation. Would they borrow my 2008's points?

As you can tell, I've never traded with II, and I'm not sure how it works.

I'm looking to trade into the Renaissance in Aruba. Any comments, good or bad?

They must be accessible when you start the request but you do not have to keep them so. They will not actually take the points until you've accepted a match. In that situation, the points will need to come from the use year where the exchange occurs (either 2007 or 2008 depending on your actual use year). But you can potentially borrow the next years points at the time of the exchange acceptance if need be. You can also cancel a scheduled trip to get the points if you need to.
