Just some questions and thoughts and would like to get everyone's opinions, esp. the Timeshare gurus out there.

We have owned since 2000, always have used for DVC, never traded out, so this is new to me and something that we are starting to think about.

What is the reason that DVC does not let us get individual memberships in II? Is there anyway that we could get that on our own? What is the benefit of having it run through DVC...is it to their benefit, more so than ours?

We recently went on another timeshare presentation, and while not having any interest in buying this particular timeshare, I have to admit that I was enticed thinking about the II membership and it's perks....including the getaway trips that they offer, where you can pay around $200 for a week and stay at some of these resorts (besides just trading out)

I love my DVC and am not giving up, but just curious as to whether people think they would like it more/less if it was opened up to II individually?

Also, for the timeshare specialists, does it make sense to buy a cheap resale, just to ge the II perks to trade out to other places?

I know I have asked alot of questions, if you got this far...thanks for reading!

yes I have a cheap timeshare with RCI to trade to other places - like in Georgia - where II doesn't have any. for me it is worth it.

DVC has a corporate membership with II - so you don't have to pay out $329? for a 3 year membership - plus when you exchange you are only charged $75 - not the $125? that II members are charged.

I also have a cheap timeshare with II to get the getaways - those are very nice
I have stayed in the Marriott's Grande Vista several times, Marriott's Grand Ocean Resort once - love the getaways.

For most members who will only use the trading option rarely or not at all, the current set up is by far the best. For those of us that are II members or those that would like to trade more regularly, or take advantage of the other II options, a regular membership would be much better. NO, you cannot join II as a regular member with DVC. Why, who knows. Personally I think it's control but can see the benefit for those members who have no clue about the exchange system and the risks involved. Overall, it's better to buy less DVC points and a second timeshare to use for exchanging if one is inclined to exchange very much.
