We've rented points and was wondering if anyone has had a Boardwalk view renting through II or is that just not possible? Just curious :) Thanks!

BW view is a separate booking category, so you probably don't have it unless the reservation specifically states it. More that likely, you will have a preferred view, which would be a water view (but not BW view). That is the Luna Park pool area, the Community Hall and quiet pool area or the courtyard/green area.

When you say you rented points through II, do you mean you traded a timeshare you own into Boardwalk via II? It's actually against II's rules for someone to rent out an exchange. If they got caught, II could freeze their account and cancel the exchange. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding you and you actually rented DVC points from a member.

If this reservation is a II exchange, then you will probably have a preferred view room, not a Boardwalk view.

Thanks for your replies, I was just curious and I wasn't asking to get the BW view, just wondering what to expect being it's rented "the right way" but through II and a member too. Nothing illegal going on here :)

DVC chooses the units that are deposited to II for exchange, and they seem to prefer depositing units/resorts that Members are less interested in booking themselves. But, stranger things have happened, so it is possible they would deposite a BW view unit, but I'd consider it very unlikely.

Great. It sounds like you rented points directly from a DVC member. You can't actually rent points from II. Sorry I misunderstood. Just was afraid you had rented a DVC II exchange and might have great risk of not having a reservation at check-in. Have heard a few horror stories about this happening to people.

When you rent a Boardwalk reservation from a DVC member, the Boardwalk view would actually be guaranteed as it is a dedicated booking category. So your DVC reservation should state either standard view, preferred view, or Boardwalk view.

I agree, MOST units for BWV are standard View and the rest are generally "preferred". I've only heard of one time where anyone got BW view through II.

cnids00, like others, I'm a little confused. Was this an II exchange, II getaway or renting from a member or did you rent an II exchange that another II member had gotten in to BWV?

It looks like the OP is saying, both - maybe adding on a nightly points rental to an II exchange?

Anyway, I don't think the views are ever mentioned on II exchange confirmations, especially when an entire resort exchanges under a single resort ID code, like DBW. If so, II exchange guests could be given a room anywhere in the resort that the front desk chooses to assign them a room for the week.

A guest with an II confirmation (and conf. #) may call Member Services to request that their reservations be linked (either 2 consecutive weeks of exchanges or an exchange week plus a points rental stay). However, it's not guaranteed and if the points reservation is for a view category that's different from where the resort needs to assign the exchange week, there's no way to avoid switching rooms.

II exchangers are often considered last at timeshare resorts. They don't own there and they're not bringing in daily rental revenue. However, at BWV, since the standard view rooms book up so quickly, and they're probably usually booked for less than a full week (point-stretching DVCers), it seems like preferred view rooms would be more readily available for a weeklong room assignment. BoardWalk view is more desirable than regular preferred view, so if the front desk can give it to a DVC member over an II exchanger, I'd think they'd do that. But this is all just my own guessing. :confused3 :)

While they could give any unit they chose, DVC is very strict about giving the unit type deposited. Generally we're talking lower demand times so DVC usually gives standard view at BWV. Taking my exchanges and other posts on this board, I only remember 2 or 3 BWV units that were not standard view. But certainly for higher demand times when certain room types book up, this could vary.

As a rule DVC won't even put you in a lockoff if you have a dedicated or vice versa even if the unit is available.

On our confirmation letter in my DH's name dated Jan 25 it says nothing about the view, only roomtype 1BED, which and I hope I stated clearly, we're not looking for the BW view, I was just curious how it works with an exchange at BW since we've never stayed there before. At OKW we could choose any building and there were no restrictions being an exchange, again, just curious on how it works at BWV, nothing else. I guess we'd be one of the couples not really caring where we stay, we know it will be great no matter what! :)

Also just want to add that I wasn't looking for answers to anything about how we got our reservation, that one is already taken care of, sorry if I confused anybody over what I was asking about, the view was it really!

Again, thanks for sll your replies and now I know how it works at BWV's!!

OKW hasn't had any "views" in the past. They recently added the Hospitality Area (buildings right near the HH), so you might have gotten just about anywhere in the past.
