I don't know - maybe she doesn't want to send cash in the mail? If the check gets lost she can stop payment on it. How many kids? Maybe she doesn't want to write 3 or 4 different checks.

Nope -- sounds like your MIL and my MIL are related! At least your MIL actually bought the cards! My MIL used to call me ON VALENTINES DAY and ask me to go to the florist to buy my DDs flowers from her. This finally stopped when I told DH that I was just too busy and he would have to go

She also NEVER has milk when we visit -- and she works as the overnight manager at a grocery store!!

Maybe DH can hint around to MIL that she needs to send separate checks!
