River Country Ticket Stubs 1978. Those were the Days!

I loved this montage from an old 1978 WDW guide book. Lovin' the pic of Whoop n Holler Hollow at RC, the staged camping pic, birds from DI and my fave is the old Space Mountain cars. How well I remember that!

I may have already posted this, but I am just too tired to go back and look. If I didn't then I hope you enjoy. If I did, my apologies.

I really like this article about the Galapagos Tortoise. Actually have some pics that I will post a little later. Found several great D.I. pics in mom's photo albums!

I think I have what may be one of the first Fort Wilderness Gazette's. Anybody know what year they started printing those? The first one I found appears to be from 79, I'll need to double check and post tomorrow.

That campsite pic shows one of the old rental Terry trailers by Fleetwood, for which (we assume) the 2nd 500 loop name of "Terry Trail" came from. Pretty cool.

As far as I recall, you did not post the scans of the September, 1978 newspaper before now.

Aside from the River Country and Discovery Island references, I really enjoyed reading the first article, which describes something I had never heard of before- The World Series of Entertainment! Wow!

From the description, it looks like they closed down the MK, and then re-opened it for a special event. Did anyone note the performers? The Village People? Taste of Honey? This was the height of Disco! I can only imagine what people wore to this event. And, does anyone remember "Roy Ayers and Ubiquity Starbooty"?

In September, 1978, I was beginning my Senior year of High School. I thought I was hip to the music scene. But, somehow, Ubiquity Starbooty stayed off of my radar.

That World Series of Entertainment only cost $7.95, and it included admission to all of the MK attractions (except, for some reason the Shootin' Gallery-which apparently was important enough to state twice). That was a big deal in those days, as each attraction normally required a ticket.

Now, about the River Country article . . .

The article says River Country was regularly open until 10 pm. None of the water parks stay open past dark these days. And, the article refers to a ride called the Raft River Ridge. I assume this is the same as White Water Rapids, but I'm not sure. Also, the children's area is called the Ol' Wading Pool. More recent maps call this area the Kiddie Kove.

I also found the description of the transportation system fascinating. For example, the gold motor coach route appears to have just gone back and forth between the Contemporary and the Polynesian with a stop at the Transportation and Ticket Center. I wonder why this was available, when the monorail visited the same stops?

Yep, that's the type TT we stayed in on our "'77 trip to the Fort. I knew about 500 being named Terry Trail. What was the 1st name?

I figured there would be some actual ignoring over the Memorial Day weekend. I even ignored it a little myself, due to DS 7th b'day and holiday and general activities.

I didn't actually read all of the WDW news articles, but thanks for pointing out the performers. I did go back and take a look. I remember almost all of them. Village People ....at Disney!? That's almost as bad as "Yankees! In Atlanta!?" I don't think I remember Ubiquity Starbooty. You would think that would stand out if I'd ever heard it before. Almost makes me want to change my name from KFK to "Starbooty!" I don't know if I would admit that I googled Starbooty. This may now have to be entered into the KFK venacular! I haven't checked out the link, but I plan to as soon as I finish this reply.

Who wouldn't want to pay special admission to MK for a huge disco concert and then pay extra for the shooting gallery. Totally logical if you ask me.

I would also assume the two names are referring to White Water Rapids. I don't ever recall another raft ride at RC and we were there within a year after it opened. I wonder why the powers that be feel the need to change perfectly good names?

As far as the gold motor coach route. Seems to me the same logic was used as in charging x-tra for the shooting gallery.

I am about to delve into the 1979 stash. BTW, Those WDW newspapers were actually around 10 or so pages, so they are full of info of all kinds of stuff. Maybe I'll keep my eyes peeled for articles of interest beyond the Fort, RC and DI.

They were called Shields and Yarnell. I think this part of their act was called the Clinkers.

It's amazing we all survived the 70's. I'd forgotten about Shields and Yarnell. Wow, they were horrible. And the husband reminds me a bit of the father in Carousel of Progress.

Wow. Did you catch the baby video from the same 1978 Christmas special? It's absolutely horrible. In fact, I'm not sure Disney has ever produced anything this bad. I mean, they are sucking each other's thumbs. That's just gross.
