Ignore button

Page 4 of this thread, starting at post 63 answers that. @Pea-n-Me did a "test" ignore of me. I got no notification, and could still see her posts.

The only way the ignored person would KNOW they're on ignore would be if you (general) told them. They might SUSPECT it if you stop replying to them, but there's no way for them to know for sure.
Thanks! Sorry, about that!

I have one person on ignore because I get annoyed seeing the argumentative posts. I felt no need to announce it or tell the person because it wasn't about me. This person just likes to spar and I'm not interested in doing so. I always know when she is on a thread I'm on because I see the notifications.

Years ago one poster was so egregiously inappropriate specifically to me that I did tell her I was leaving the conversation and putting her on ignore. I probably also reported her for harrassment. That was an extreme case though. It was not about stomping out of the conversation, it was about letting someone know I wouldn't stand for their behavior. I see nothing wrong with telling someone you will won't be participating anymore in a direct interaction. I'm guessing she must have gotten in trouble eventually with other people because after a while she disappeared (never saw the "ignored post" messages anymore) and then for a while she was quite obviously back under a different name. Now she has either moved on or is behaving herself better and here and participating under yet another new name.

I think having two people on ignore in 23 years is a pretty good ratio!

I don't really need a button to ignore people. In fact, I'm fully capable of ignoring people while carrying on a face to face conversation with them.

Nod head.
Uh huh.
(Thinking about my strategy for my next video game)
Oh yes, I understand.
Ahhh. That's sweet.

If someone gave me an exam of what the idiot just said I'd flunk it. Then again the idiot doesn't know what he/she just said either so it doesn't matter.

But, how many of those posts were started yesterday vs being bumped yesterday?
If my calculations are correct, there are 3-4 new posts per day on average.

Rather crazy that one person has started that many posts!
I'm still amazed by the amount of people who read it and reply to it.

Part of me still thinks it's a robot. Programmed by a very interesting person.

He does always (I think) have his personal response in the second post, albeit with no detail. I've wondered if that is part of the programming or if he really is the one posting. I believe he posted under another profile for awhile a few months ago.

The previous 'bot' was active from 2017 to mid 2022, with just over 2,000 posts (and in this case, that probably means 2,000 threads) on average also 3-4 posts a day. I thought he/she got blocked and therefore stopped, but apparently that wasn't the case. Maybe you can only open 2.000 threads and after that you need a new account.

Or a new account was necessary to be able to separate data. The part of me believes that it's a robot-account, also believes the person behind it is big on data collection. And somewhere there is a gigantic dashboard where he/she presents all his/her findings on habits, experiences and opinions of DIS board members.
Besides a person, this account could also be run by an alien doing research into mankind. :)
Could also be the Walt Disney Company doing research to better target their potential customers.

I noticed that yesterday when I got on the DIS. I just feel bad when other more "legit" questions and discussions from DISers we know get farther pushed away. :(

Just to add. I have no problem with people asking questions but most who do engage in conversation which has always helped to keep this Community Board alive for what it's worth.

I've noticed that there's a poster that asks questions that the answers could be useful for identity theft, if put together.

Another thing, posting those daily prompt questions (think pieces) was embraced by several people when low key passed, so there are a lot more of them now.

I guess, but I have had some sites recently that had security question options I couldn't answer. NONE applied to anything in my life.
And when I signed up for Medicare via Social Security website, their password rules require the use of a symbol.....but forbid the use of most symbols!

You mean you don’t spend time wondering what you’d bark at if you were a dog? LOL

I actually took screenshots yesterday of page 1 and shared it in a dm because I couldn’t believe how many questions there were from one person.

I have wondered if it is someone on the autism spectrum or with another mental disability. I say that because there is someone on Facebook who makes frequent posts in similar patterns. Of course on Facebook his true identity is right there, and he is and has been involved in Special Olympics and other disabled programs and has been for decades.
He is capable of working in an entry level state job, but can't live alone or drive. His posts often contain a morsel of truth..........and he takes them way beyond that. The latest being a list of stores that are "closing forever on April 9th" when in reality they are going to be closed on April 9th for Easter.

No, but there is a current thread on Facebook asking if you have ever "rolled down your car window and meowed at someone?"

Some posters ask questions and engage in friendly discussion.
The one that doesn't enter into any neighborly chat feels like it's gathering data. I'm always a little surprised folks continue to give that specific poster information.

I noticed that as well, then realized they had all been bumped to the front page by the same person.

Edited for typo.

Certainly worthy of thought. However, I am always amazed at how much privacy people THINK they have, when they don't. Starting with my birth certificate, which anyone can look up which has my mother's maiden name on it.
I creeped out one of the younger reporters I worked with when I mentioned the above. She didn't believe it but in the time it took me to type her name in the Google search bar and hit enter, I knew her REAL name and knew she had been an Ambassador at Walt Disney World, and that one included a photo of her.

Sadly I figured a way to know for sure I've been blocked. There was one person I thought they might have so I decided to see if I could tell. This is prob old news, but

1. They were not searchable by member name
2. They were searchable in the free text box
3. When I went to one of their posts and clicked their name, it gave me the Oops message but not the user limits who can see it message. It was that it was not available.

I'm kind of bummed! 😐😄

I’m pretty sure that when you get the Oops, this users name is not available, it’s not because you were blocked, it’s because they’ve been banned.
