...you would have LOVED spending last weekend with me - on Saturday we went to two places and sampled different wines. On Sunday we visited 2 breweries to taste various beers....

Imagine combining that with being in the same room with BJ? :scared1:

Well I survived my first Back to School night. Can't say it went as well for the principal :rotfl2:. Yep, I'm one of those parents. We chatted for a little while after the initial presentation. Don't think I'm on his Christmas list, but that's okay, he won't be on mine. :lmao:

Teachers were wonderful. Didn't like the History teacher much though. Each teacher had 8 minutes to explain the course to us. He came 2 minutes late, spent another 2 minutes setting up his Powerpoint presentation and then proceeded to tell us (in slide format) what he allows the children to call him, where he went to school, what he used to do for a living before teaching, where he got his B.A.... We had about 1 minute to cover the coursework.

Was disappointed to learn that PrincessK has failed two tests so far. Not happy but not freaking out either. All Honors teachers said basically the same thing: these kids that come into honors haven't really had to work too hard in grammar school, but that changes NOW. They said it's not uncommon for the year to get off to a bumpy start, and that we need to stress that the kids will actually have to work toward good grades. I'm actually glad she didn't do well -- nothing like a reality check to change perspective. Oh, and I also took her cell phone. Too much time texting. My job is to remove distractions. ;)

Got her English Honors reading list: :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:
here is just a small sample: Dante's Inferno, Beowulf, The Iliad, Oedipus Rex, Julius Caesar, The Bible as in Literature, Antigone, Becket, the Lion in Winter...the list truly does go on and on -- many poems, legends, ballads, excerpts, etc. in addition to Sumerian, Egyptian and Hebrew literature. Please, pray for my child. :rotfl2::rotfl2: The only thing on the list I ever read was Tristan and Iseult and Beowulf. And all the crazy notes I said were for her interactive notebook -- my mistake, those are the requirements of the English teacher. The interactive notebook is something entirely different with its own list of requirements. :sad2: I honestly feel if she gets through 4 years of high school, she'll have college in the palm of her hand. Again, all prayers, pixie dust and good thoughts should be sent to PK, c/o PK'sMom. :rotfl:

WOW, that is some book list! :scared1: My next book is Wuthering Heights.

Hey all.

PK, I did advanced HS and read all of that crap too. If the poem, Paradise Lost, is on the list run for the hills now. That was the worst of all 4 years of Advanced Lit. The good news is that a lot of the same reading list was in my lit classes in college so it was definitely a help.

Discussing alcohol works for me. My current drink of choice is vodka and Jungle Juice. I'm trying to get psyched for my upcoming WDW trip that happens in

16 days.

PK, S has to read Beowulf for history now, just started it. She said it sounds like such a happy book because the 2nd chapter is titled "Hall full of blood."

what is jungle juice? :confused3

Pakey, 16 days? I'm sooooooo jealous! Isn't that the exact time Scotlass is going?

Wow, I just typed up this big rambling response to each of you and then somehow lost it. Glad it wasn't real work. Anyway, thank you all for your encouragement and perspectives. It helps immensely and I truly appreciate it.

So let's hear more about this Jungle Juice!?

I am a carry on only person. Do you think you and that new alphabet would both fit in a 19" bag?

Just measured my stomach, it's almost double that. And, I'm still going to get bigger. :sad2: Could you mail me some jungle juice?

Thinking about a 19" carryon, I realized I carry a diaper bag on a day to day basis that is probably bigger. We're planning on bringing a trailer for our next trip, which probably won't be until 2012.

Dh has the day off tomorrow, so I'm starting my weekend early. Be back Sunday night! :upsidedow

The juice they serve at Tusker House for breakfast. It's Passion Fruit, Orange and Guava mixed.

...add orange and mango to it, and that's what they called 'frunch' - a drink they served in CL at the AKL.....

....we are almost nearing the end - of course, feel free to ignore the last page (as long as you DON'T lignore the FIRST PAGE of the newer installment!)....
